Who wins and why? Vernon is one of my favorites but Zab is even moreso one of my favorites. I could see both winning and would call it a 50/50 fight or maybe even favor Forrest although most would disagree. In the end I would go with Zab but everytime I picture them fighting it seems almost impossible for me to see Zab winning because of Vernon's size and he's so technical. However, he can be hurt and Zab has the speed and power to KO him. This would be a great fight and we still may see it one day if Vernon moves back down.

On a side note, Vernon has to be feeling like a clown. He loses twice to Mayorga, then he moves up for better fights and then he gets injuied and by time he gets back there will be better fights at 147 again with Oscar, Shane, Zab, Cintron, Margarito, and maybe Mayorga, Zoo, Floyd, and Cotto. He still will have some solid guys in Spinks and Ouma. I think Winky might retire if he loses to Tito

Zab is a great fighter but if he could lose to Spinks than I think he could easily drop one to a prime Vernon Forest. I think Vernon wins this one 6 out of 10 times.

Yeah but Mayorga lost to Spinks and beat Vernon twice ;)

A Prime Forrest would have the boxing ability and power to keep Zab Judah at bay the entire night.Judah would get desperate late and run into one of Forrest's overhand rights and uppercutts.

Forrest by late round KO

Ya but that wasn't really prime Forest.

yes it was. he had just beat Mosley twice. The differnce for me is that I thought Spinks beat Mayorga but I didnt think he beat Zab

I could see that happening but Zab is super quick and more elusive then Shane is and he's a lefty. I think he can get to Vernon

Prime Vernon could find a way to win, he was a pretty big welter with good reach, decent pop and an underrated chin. Mayorga basically mugged him, took him out of his game with those clubbing shots to the side of his head...and even then, I had Forrest winning the rematch. Forrest by decision.

Just because he hasn't fought in awhile doesn't mean he isn't in his prime. I'd pick Forrest by decision.

forrest by KO... he's much bigger, has the power to take zab's weak chin out and he knows how to deal with speed....

I wouldn't say Judah's chin is the best but I wouldn't say it was weak either. Outside of the Tszyu fight the only times Judah was knocked down was because of him being off balance or standing with his feet together like in the Spinks fight. The Tszyu fight was the only time I seen him hurt.

he's been down against millett, spinks and bergman that I know of... all 3 times were from one punch and none of those guys are huge punchers... i dont think he takes a good punch and forrest hits hard enough to put him out...

That's because he was off balance or squared up. He was never hurt from those punches. Forrest does have enough power that could hurt Judah but I'm just saying that his chin isn't as weak as people make it out to be.

i think oscar, shane and forrest would all beat zab.... and i'd certainly give mayorga, cintron, and mragarito a good punchers chance...

i still think zab's chin is weak, he's been on the canvas too many times against too many different opponents, off balance or not...

Tszyu, Millett, and Bergman are the only people to floor him.
That is better than the 8 fighters who knocked Trinidad down.
:)

Even at that, they were mostly pushes.

Good point about Tito. I haven't seen Forest fight yet. What fights should I see to get the best impression of his skill and style? When I read the thread title I thougt to myself, did I miss Vernon Forest's prime? Wow, that was a short prime! I think the poster meant in shape and injury free Forest. Prime refers more to point in their career, i.e. learning, in prime, in decline and then sometimes you have the shot fighter.

What fights should I see to get the best impression of his skill and style? .

his 2nd battle with Raul Frank, or the fights with Shane Mosley. Pretty much any Forrest fight; he is lenghty....hits hard and likes to "Potshot" his opponents. If you were to watch his bouts with Mayorga, you will see a different Vernon Forrest. He took WAY too many steps straight back, and was trying to counter off his back foot. That is a no-no against a freight train like Mayorga. He needed to use lateral movement.

I would say Mosley for sure. He administered 2 clinics, and exhibited his power in the first fight by knocking Mosley down. Something that is not that easy to do.

Sounds odd: but he reminds me of a lengthier, harder punching Winky Wright. Neither are fleet footed, but excellent boxing ability.

I'd say Forrest by late stoppage or UD. Zab's never been in with a boxer/puncher who has size and skills comperable to Vernon. I think he'd keep Zab outside for the majority of the fight and detonate that right cross on Zabs chin late.

I dont think Vernon is in his prime. Im not saying he's out but he has to prove it. He hasnt fought in nearly 2 years and is coming off 2 straight losses. Do you guys think that he can just jump straight back at his top with no problem? I dont know

i think the fight is pretty even. judah has a lot of speed but forrest could keep him away with his reach. id say forrest wins by close decision

Forrest vs Judah is not even close. Vernon beat a better fighter in Shane Mosley, at that time, than Judah is now. He would've eaten Judah alive. Not one doubt in my mind. Those shots he snuffed Mosley out with would've have Judah breakdancing again.

Pushes? Have you seen the Millett knockdown? It wasn't a push, and Zab was doing a minor dance when he got up. Bergman's punch wasn't big but it was a punch.

Zab has a weak chin, period, and his legs get affected.
