GREENOCK boxer John Simpson has suffered a set-back in his bid to regain the British featherweright title.

Simpson, who recently successfully retained his Commonwealth title by stopping Paul Truscott of Middlesbrough in a re-match on the Englishman's home ground, was originally told by the boxing board of control that he would now be given a title shot at Northern Ireland's Martin Lindsay. Now the board have reconsidered and informed Simpson that first he must meet another English opponent, Steven Bell whom he was supposed to fight last March.

Only if Simpson gets through that contest, on the undercard of the Amir Khan fight on 5 December against Dmitriy Salita in Newcastle, will the Lindsay contest take place as planned.

Don't think Simpson should have any problems beating Bell but it's sad he doesn't get the recognition he deserves and is a victim to blatant robberies.

Same here mate I was looking forward to it as well.Gutted mate because Simpson was probably fired up for it going over into the lions den and fighting the undefeated prospect now they've set him back as well . Hopefully they still get it on soon mate it should be a good fight.

Well hopefully Martin can find a decent opponent so he can keep busy. Im sure he'll keep the date - he needs all the ring time he can get; especially if he has to go to war with Simpson.

I fancied him to beat Simpson by a clear UD in a tough fight. Simpsons a tough cookie so i dont think he'll be stopped even though Martin's power has come on a bit in the last year.

Hopefully the fight still gets made so he can put all his doubters to bed. He's a great prospect imo, better than McCloskey.

If Lindsay is as good as they say he is he should be soundly beating chumps like Simpson. Simpson would be a good fight for him though on the road to European level just because he's got a decent chin and never stops coming. Would be a good learning fight. Mate Simpson's no chump.Ginngeralbino even said it himself he knows Simpson's a tought cookie.He got robbed against Matthews and Steven Foster Jr plus was very close against Appelby because of a slip that got counted .He's getting better now as he's getting experienced.He's defintley one of the most underrated fighters in the UK.Not to forget he's boxed more than twice the rounds as Lindsay.Looking at 12 rounders .Simpson's boxed 9 Lindsay's boxed 1.No disrespect to Lindsay i'm just edging towards Simpson when this one goes ahead.

Defintley underrated and no chump.Check this one out what he done to Andy Morris on his home turf.I wouldn't be suprised if he stopped Lindsay.No offence tho i've got alot of respect for Lindsay and would hope he comes back stronger.I'm non biased in boxing .Got a good right hand and uppercut.

This is the one that cost Simpson the Appelby fight.If it wasn't for this he'd have probably win on points that's how close the cards were.Simpson didn't even perform in that fight at the time..... It reminds me of the Mayweather one against Judah that didn't get counted

that was v derry mathews, Lindsay was struggling a bit in this fight but it was close before that KO (beautiful KO). Shows he can pull a big shot out of the bag if he needs to.

Here's him stopping Appleby in a great performance in Belfast; great atmosphere but Simpson wont be affected by it like Appleby was, too experianced for that but the crowd will only help Martin:

As the Appelby fight mate check that gif out do you think that was a knockdown because there was only 1 point in it off 2 judges and 2 points off 1 judge.Simpson thinks he should have win it mate.Plus he didn't perform well .For some reason in that fight he said he didn't get out of first gear.He's getting better mate every fight for real.He's still only 26.If he beat Appelby he'd have win that belt outright.

I must watch that fight, i missed it.

The thing with Simpson is though he is always in close fights. Lindsay is a step up for him talent wise, and he's a tough cookie too. He's not gonna crumble if Simspon gets the better of him for a few rounds so I'd expect Lindsay to edge out a UD on him by a few rounds.

Cool mate that's your opininon,sound.I've read on esb people saying Simpson's the best featherweight in Europe tho mate.Close fights but getting stronger every fight and well experienced.Funny tae Simpson's younger but alot more experienced.He's been in 9 12 round championship fights to Lindsay's 1 mate and boxed 182 rounds to Lindsays 72 plus getting stronger and still not reached his peak.Simpson should go onto bigger and better things as well mate.He's defintley one of the most underrated fighters in the UK.He's tough,well schooled and has a solid chin.Never been stopped.
