View Full Version : Nightclubs and alcohol effect on
sebspeed 10-11-2009, 08:20 PM Ok guys, first of all, I would like to clarify my situation, I'm not a boxer, I love to watch the sweet science, but I practice track and field. I'm one of Quebec fastest runner on 100 and 200 meters and Top 10 Canada wide for my age range..
I never had a problem of drinking, because I wasn't 18 years old, I was sober for all my summer season. Now that I'm 18, I can go to nightclubs and drink beer ''legally'', do you think it can affect my performance, let's say I go to club one time per week or two weeks and drink water or if I drink beer once a month??
Thanks for your advice gentlemen
VERSATILE2K12 10-11-2009, 08:23 PM The day after you drink and try to practice it won't be the same unless the alcohol is all out of you. You won't be fully balanced as you would when not drinking. Reason I don't drink if I have to go to boxing later or the next day.
PAC-BOY 10-11-2009, 08:33 PM If you want to have optimal performance...dont put anything bad in your body. Not even second hand smoke found in clubs. I know its a drag but your boxing career will be as serous as you make it. Some is out there doing all they can to destroy you in the ring. I recommend you do the same. Thats My opinion! If you chose to get in them ropes!
BrianMVP 10-11-2009, 08:34 PM Only thinking of this topic the other day....
Lets say for instance you go out and drink 8 pints on a Saturday nite.
That is like 4 litres of pure liquid **** in your body, drank in the space of like 5 hours!!!!!
No wonder i do be so ****ed for a day or 2 after, sure I barely drink 4litres of WATER a DAY.... Go Figure
Of the drink for the next month or so.. FACT:boxing:

Never touch anything involving drugs or smoking in my entire life and that's not a problem for me. I will never drink before a week before a competittion.
I mean if I go clubbing drinking water,is it a problem for my performances??

not too much...Personally Im not in to the club scene. Nothing good really come out of it. But to your question...no not too much, but for me personally I dont like smoke and dont want second hand smoke in my lungs. IMO. Plenty of people do it and are fine. I just prefer not to because i dont want NOTHING to be a factor long term or short with my performance. Its good you never touch the ****. Dont. Alcohol is Sugar and its not good for you. Red wine is cool in moderation.
copelahama 10-11-2009, 09:04 PM clubbing on water? are you serious..
its sort of self explanatory - if you go clubbing on water of course it wont harm you, however as pac said theres still second hand smoke - but you will find that anywhere, clubs dont degenerate you physically by any other means?
sukhenkoy 10-11-2009, 10:09 PM I don't think it will affect you too much. It's obviously better to stay away from that, but you can manage with it. In any case, if you see it is starting to affect your performances on the track, you can always stop. It's not like you're going to get ****faced every night, smoke 3 packs everytime you're going out.
To put things into perspective, 2 weeks ago I went drinking with friends and had a good amount of alcohol. The next day I had a 3 hour soccer tournament and played better than I used to play when I didn't drink at all. I didn't feel muggy or anything.
That being said, I'm not promoting alcohol by any means. But I think that if you drink 1 beer a month, you shouldn't really see a difference in your performance, unless your tolerance is really low and you get drunk from one beer, and get a hangover the next morning (which I highly doubt).
See how it works for you. You're the only one that knows what's best for your body and mind.
Alexandros 10-11-2009, 10:17 PM yeah it makes u out of sync with all that your training and for me it's more on a psychological level than physical.
I'll outrun u! Stfu!
:tool: no drinking if u wana be the best at what u do!
Derranged 10-11-2009, 10:22 PM I try to avoid getting drunk if I have to train the next day.

There's no second hand smoke in Quebec because you can't smoke inside a public restaurant, club or any facilities except your home...

If you're top 10 like you say you are, I wouldn't drink or go to clubs. You have all the time in the world to party and drink after you're done with track and field.

Ogecca MaMa 10-12-2009, 01:49 AM once a week ? yeah this will effect you.
i drink like once in 2-3 months, whenever I come back from tournaments with my team.
i'd say you can party and everything, as long as its really rare and you keep practicing hard.
-GBGQ- 10-13-2009, 01:41 AM While your training, stay out the clubs.
This is my biggest vice by far. I love to be out socializing and drinking but it kills me when I'm training. I feel far worse throughout the day. I've been to the whole "club drinking water" thing. Just me being there and being in that enviornment still made me feel like I was drinking. It sounds stupid but that's just me.
shogunn 10-13-2009, 02:27 AM The thing about drinking is it always leads to more eating. After drinking/club, we'll usually thrash carne asada nachos/fries, dennys, etc. Last saturday we found a chinese resturant that closed at 3, big mistake.
I usually weigh myself when I get home to find that I gained almost 6lbs. By morning ill lose about 2, and try to piss the rest out. But during the first couple of days of the week Im trying to run it off.
Its definitely not good going out if youre trying to maintain or cut weight

Carne asada fries! You must be from Cali.
I agree with the drinking leads to those late night dining. The people you go out and party don't need to watch what they're eatting/drinking, so you end up doing the same.
mrboxer 10-13-2009, 11:01 AM stay away from the beer,if you are a runner it will dehydrate you,:boxing:

Uh, drinking once a month is just fine, you will not notice any difference, that's nothing.
Really the key is not to get drunk! I really enjoy wine, beer and spirits, but I don't enjoy getting wasted and drunk. That's no fun, and if you do that it will effect you - but only the day after. But if you were to make a habit of it, in otherwords live a lifestyle of going out and drinking and partying it will effect your health and fitness, even if you're stone cold sober when you do your athletic work.
I reccommend doing what I do, have drink or two with a meal and enjoy it that way. If you go out to a club, just take a long time to have 1 drink. That will not effect you at all (as long as you get a regular night's sleep) - even if you had to run the next day. Small amounts of alcohol are actually healthy for you. It's only after a few drinks when the drunkeness sets in that its bad for your systems.
#1Assassin 10-14-2009, 07:12 PM The day after you drink and try to practice it won't be the same unless the alcohol is all out of you. You won't be fully balanced as you would when not drinking. Reason I don't drink if I have to go to boxing later or the next day.
alcohol effects your performance more than the day after. u dont feel hung over but it slows u down alot for atleast 2 days, u might not feel it but its there.
eighter way anyone who is serious about boxing doesnt drink. nightclubs are fine, once a week. fridays are gym days, after which u need your sleep. saturdays u can go out incase your gym is closed, but u wont be 100% on monday even if u rest sunday.
not putting trash in your system and getting proper rest is vital incase you are a serious athlete.
