View Full Version : Training while sick?
RayDiggle 10-09-2009, 11:54 AM Is it a good idea? I just got a cold, nothing overly major, but it does give me coughs and I have a constant stream of sniffles going as well. I don't think I'll be heading to the gym today, although if I miss today, I'll basically be missing 4 days of training straight (today, then Sat/Sun when I usually don't go, and Monday for Thanksgiving). Should I go regardless, or is it better to wait out the cold?
Mondays thanksgiving?....=/
Just wait it out. No need to train.
RayDiggle 10-09-2009, 02:25 PM Ye Monday lol, I'm in Canada :P
But ye thanks man. Guess I'll go back with a vengeance on Tuesday :P
mrboxer 10-09-2009, 03:29 PM try blowing your nose and if the sniffles stopped then you can train but if you still have the sniffles to not do bag or mitt work, just skip the rope, and shadow box, when you no longer have the sniffles then you can train all out again, but if your sniffles get in your way then there is no need to train with the sniffles:boxing:
Derranged 10-09-2009, 03:52 PM I guess its ok but I know that when I have a cold and I try to train, I feel weak as ****.
Joachim 10-09-2009, 03:58 PM Also. breathing out your nose is impossible when its stuffed. Making it pretty difficult to do anything.
shyboirank#1 10-09-2009, 09:29 PM rest......
RightHooker 10-09-2009, 11:13 PM If you are sick and still want to train do it by yourself. Please don't come to the gym and spread your germs around. Thanks. :)
RayDiggle 10-09-2009, 11:23 PM Lol I didn't go, no worries. And ye, that did occur to me too.
you need to rest! your body enters higher level of stress because it has to recover from your sickness and intense workouts, putting your body at a catabolic state and will increase the time that you are sick. only train when you at or close to 100%
Aracibo04 10-09-2009, 11:53 PM it really depends how sick you feel, if I have a cold and a cough with no fever then I train like I normally do, only when i have a fever and body aches is when i don't train.
What I have found is that i get over my sickness faster, I was surprised to see so many say to rest. If you try it you will notice that you will be able to breathe better by the time you are finished with your training for the day.
You see, you get your blood pumping, more oxygen and nutrients to your body and that helps your immune system. IMO.
Chip2006uk 10-10-2009, 12:27 AM Ive been ill this last week with a virus/mini flu sort of thing, Ive taken the whole week off training except some light skipping, feeling better now still coughing a bit though
RightHooker 10-10-2009, 12:37 AM Lol I didn't go, no worries. And ye, that did occur to me too.
Yea, rest is important. Better to take a day off and rest then keep going and get even sicker and then have to miss several days. But that's your choice. I just don't like when people are in the gym sniffing and sneezing everywhere.
DavidS 10-11-2009, 05:54 PM Rest and come back, with A VENGEANCE.
"Shion" 10-11-2009, 06:37 PM I currently have a full body ache, headaches, and phlegms.
There is no way in hell I am entering a ring or going out for a run in those symptoms.
