View Full Version : I'm ready to say it. American Gangster to me, is a classic
Truth 10-09-2009, 08:06 AM I listen to this album again this morning and came to the conclusion this album is very underrated. I always thought it was, but I also thought it was more of a 4.5/5 album. Now I'm stamping it with the classic seal...
its just an incredible album with the 70's soul samples, jays slick clever talk and flow.
Truth 10-09-2009, 08:10 AM WOW@ No Hook. Its weird because I've heard this album for years but its catching my ear different today. I always thought it was a great album but this **** is a classic to me now. Jay needs to make American Gangster Pt. 2 lol
Grand Champ 10-09-2009, 09:16 AM That's how I feel on X and most Nas albums.. They're classics to me but not universal recognized classics, and that's what counts I Guess. But truth.. If it's a classic shouldn't it be a 5/5 to you and not a 4,5/5? Classic is a perfect album with no average fill in tracks.
MegStarr* 10-09-2009, 11:39 AM aww, Truth
you can be so nerdy sometimes.
haha don't take offense to that. it's a part of your swagg.

its 5/5 now to me...
Savino 10-09-2009, 12:48 PM I gotta agree. American Gangster is a classic. Mad under-rated album by people.
Nick Fury 10-09-2009, 12:49 PM cause you're ridiculous lool AG is great though, no doubt.
Shyne is one of the most overrated rappers ever though.
cusd'amatokid 10-09-2009, 04:15 PM i really like this album too. to me american gangster is better than bp3
that success track with nas is bangin
Truth 10-09-2009, 04:49 PM thanks to the people who just had regular/on topic responses to this thread. I appreciate it.

lol. people seem to be into :poke: me latley on here. AG is just such a sick album to me...i'm sorry
Truth 10-13-2009, 10:38 AM If you really listen to AG its a classic. I think people have a jay-z classic phobia these days. they are tired of giving him classics. the soul samples, the lyrics, the vibe...its all there. its like reasonable doubt pt. 2
THE REED™ 10-13-2009, 10:39 AM I think the ONLY time Ive even seen you on here for the last 3 months it has been about either Jayz or Shyne and thats it.
You may have asked me about Roy one time.

Thats true. but i'll get excited about the RJJ fight when it gets closer. still got the whole month of november and part of october.
Truth 10-13-2009, 10:42 AM say what you will though, i might be repetitive, but atleast i keep the heart of the hip hop forum pumping.....if i left this place would be pretty slow.
Jay da best man haha

Floyd Sinclair 10-14-2009, 02:01 PM Nothin wrong with callin this cd a classic...i dont see how that makes someone a stan. This is a good thread, this album should be talked about more often...
I dont quite think its a classic, but its close to me...theres 3 songs that I skip everytime i listen to the cd unless im too lazy to get off my ass and i cant find my remote...
Roc Boyz, blue magic, and american gangster
other then that I love this cd
Truth 10-14-2009, 06:11 PM I'm a camel warrior. a jigga warrior. a jay-z stan lol
i just think jay is an incredible artist/rapper.

Dem Eyes 10-15-2009, 11:01 AM I just downloaded and listened to it today.
It's terrible.
:nonono:
Lean On Me 10-16-2009, 03:17 PM I always liked the AG lyrics over the Ironman beats better.
Kobe Bryant 10-17-2009, 02:13 PM It's a lot better than Blueprint 3 for sure. It's just a really well put together album great all around vibe. As a classic I could see the argument. But these days people just toss an album out after the newest one releases and forget it.

Grand Champ 10-17-2009, 02:42 PM Too many tracks on it IMO. I'm no Jay-Z expert he've made some real nice music but he isn't the artist I've bumped the most. When I listened after it came out I felt a little disappointed, A sure classic is an album with about 9 tracks on it. Each of the nine tracks needs to either change the way people've been listening to music by being creative or innovative and/or each of the tracks need to be lyrical, beat and productionwise perfect. That's a sure classic.
that's why albums like Thriller and Illmatic are rare. But a ****load of albums is borderline classics no doubt. Eminem show, It's Dark & Hell is Hot, Me against the world etc etc.
-Antonio- 10-17-2009, 02:47 PM AG is the best album he's released since Black Album for sure.
