I listen to this album again this morning and came to the conclusion this album is very underrated. I always thought it was, but I also thought it was more of a 4.5/5 album. Now I'm stamping it with the classic seal...

its just an incredible album with the 70's soul samples, jays slick clever talk and flow.

That's how I feel on X and most Nas albums.. They're classics to me but not universal recognized classics, and that's what counts I Guess. But truth.. If it's a classic shouldn't it be a 5/5 to you and not a 4,5/5? Classic is a perfect album with no average fill in tracks.

I gotta agree. American Gangster is a classic. Mad under-rated album by people.

I dont quite think its a classic, but its close to me...theres 3 songs that I skip everytime i listen to the cd unless im too lazy to get off my ass and i cant find my remote...

I always liked the AG lyrics over the Ironman beats better.

It's a lot better than Blueprint 3 for sure. It's just a really well put together album great all around vibe. As a classic I could see the argument. But these days people just toss an album out after the newest one releases and forget it.

Too many tracks on it IMO. I'm no Jay-Z expert he've made some real nice music but he isn't the artist I've bumped the most. When I listened after it came out I felt a little disappointed, A sure classic is an album with about 9 tracks on it. Each of the nine tracks needs to either change the way people've been listening to music by being creative or innovative and/or each of the tracks need to be lyrical, beat and productionwise perfect. That's a sure classic.

that's why albums like Thriller and Illmatic are rare. But a ****load of albums is borderline classics no doubt. Eminem show, It's Dark & Hell is Hot, Me against the world etc etc.

AG is the best album he's released since Black Album for sure.
