View Full Version : How smug and insincere is Sylvester Stallone in The Contender?

I like Sly, but he's so Hollywood it hurts. I remember seeing a TV show once where he was caught chasing after a guy caught on camcorder. But he puts the front on of "nice guy".

You can tell when he's with those young boxers and they're ragging on him about Oscar and Daylight he's pretending to laugh but really he's thinking "I'd love to smack you one but I'm too old and I was never a real boxer anyway."

He pretends to joke around with them and you get their bits saying "he talks to us just like a buddy" but really he's about as sincere and real as Oscar De La Hoya.

Agree...?

I saw him on Howard Stern last night and I have never liked him ever.

But then Howard asked him about the guy that killed himself and it was like all of a sudden he just dropped the bull**** and you could tell he really felt for that guy. He didn't use it to sell the show, and he didn't use it to claim the guy was unstable, he just talked aobut what a great guy he was, and how he thought it was a caught in the moment type thing, and that they guy would normally never have done that.

don't remember his name, and I actually don't want to look it up because I would rather just watch the show and not sit there waiting for it to happen you know.

Sly sucks, but he's better than Ty Pennington or Carson Daly or any of the other pretty-boy reality-show hosts in the USA

The chemistry between him and Sugar Ray doesn't come off, does it?

The Contender is a boxing TV show. Sly played a star boxer in the most popular boxing movie of all time. He is there to help bridge the gap between TV fiction and boxing reality.

I think it was a brilliant move by the produceres to get Stalone. My wife likes the show partly because of the bridge Sly creates. We now sit and watch the Contender instead of E.R. and reruns of Friends. :) I owe it all to Rocky! :D

The Contender is a boxing TV show. And there's me thinking it was supposed to be about ballet dancing. I couldn't understand why they kept hitting each other, now it all falls into place...

Look, whether or not Sly is a good draw for audiences (and I can see why he is - Hell, I like the guy myself) that doesn't mean I can't say he sucks, does it? I mean, I'd watch University Challenge if Mike Tyson presented it, but it doesn't mean he'd make a good host.

Kimmy - Limeyland is showing it late Friday evenings on ITV.

You like the guy.... But he sucks.
He's a nice guy .....But he's not.
He's a good for ratings.....But he's a bad host.

At first I thought I made a mistake and I was confused, but I now see that I'm not the confused one.

I guess I was only supposed to respond to the question "Is he as sincere and real as Oscar De La Hoya?" I apologies for the extra information and expressing my opinion in my post. To answer your question.... I don't really care if he acts like De la hoya.

If this is a "respond only if your gay thread, I missed that memo. Next time post the rules and I won't make the mistake again.

Enjoy

I think you'll find I'm actually wearing these avatars and signatures because I lost a bet - but your moronic homophobia is noted.

No, you're allowed to express an opinion... just as I'm allowed to say you're talking crap.

I think it's very clear how someone can be a stiff, unnatural host, but still be good for ratings. As for me saying he was a nice guy, you tell me where I said that.

Well, If I were homophobic I wouldn't have responded to your thread. Your inability to figure that out puts your intellect on full display. Making a bet like that, you must be either moronic, gay or both. If I were you I would quit now before others see how moronic you truly are.

As for your sexual preference, if your not gay you had me fooled. You play the part well.

No, you're allowed to express an opinion... just as I'm allowed to say you're talking crap.If disagreeing with you is talking crap than what's the point of posting a question in the first place? This is a website for debate isn’t it? You're on an intellectual role here princess.

I think it's very clear how someone can be a stiff, unnatural host, but still be good for ratings. As for me saying he was a nice guy, you tell me where I said that. For some reason I'm not surprised that you chose to describe Sly as "stiff" and "unnatural". You use those words comfortably to describe him.

I was debating which of you two actually had the more irrelevant post, but I couldn't quite decide. I was going to join in the debate but there really isn't a point, is there?

I hate that ****ing show.

I don't like reading abridged books, i don't like watching **** clips, i don't like watching "basic instinct" on the usa network, and i don't like watching edited fights.
