View Full Version : McGwire On "Roids...No One Cares!!!???
Explosivo 03-18-2005, 11:00 AM Unless you are a complete moron, you now know that after his statements yester day, Mark McGwire, the HR king who saved baseball, was on steriods when he broke the record during that magical season. I think that he has disgraced the game and that this should be treated as the biggest sports scandal in American history, and yet, it doesnt seem like anyone really cares. Has our moral ground decayed so much in recent years that we dont see this as a problem? Where has this country gone since we were outraged when Ben Johnson, who beat Carl Lewis in the olympics was caught doing steriods? What has happened to the outrage in this country??
masterdirector 03-18-2005, 11:10 AM Umm...I never liked McGwire anyhow.
I don't think Barry Bonds purposefully used steroids. Also don't think Mosley or Vargas did. All of those guys are California guys and I think they just took supplements from the Balco lab because it was the new big thing in California. I compare it to sort of the Atkins diet. Balco was talked highly of before the steroid scandal. I just don't think so many athletes would've chanced it. Especially boxers because steroids hinder a boxer more than help him, since they slow down his movement by adding too much bulk.
Explosivo 03-18-2005, 11:26 AM Do steroids improve your hand/eye coordination?
If not, then it does not bother me the least bit.
Steroids should apply where makes sense. Like in UFC, Boxing, football, olympics....etc.
Not Baseball, Tennis, Golf, Basketball, or Volleyball. I could care less how big these guys get, It gives them absolutely no advantage over the next person.
Especially in Baseball. Size and Strength means nothing.
Alfonso Soreano is 160 lbs, and can crank them as far as anyone. I seriously doubt he uses steroids.
And at that: What is the difference between a 400ft homerun and 500 ft homerun? nothing.
I think this "Roid Outrage" is product of too much free time on people's hands, as well as personal insecurites.
You must not know much about baseball if you think that size and strengh give the person no advantage. Extra strength make what would be a routine fly ball become a home run. Explain why it is that McGwire and Bonds began to hit more homeruns since the got bigger as men. There hand eye coordination has always been there. Steriods also help older guys stay big when naturally it should be more difficult for them to gain muscle. Steriods give the player a great advantage in baseball.
Explosivo 03-18-2005, 11:36 AM How did Roger Maris hit 63 homeruns? Steroids?
I realize that number was eclipsed. But it is still alot.
Gaining muscle is also not an "anti-aging" deterrent.
It is completely irrelevant. Having muscle mass does not make you younger.
Your talking about things that have nothing to do with the thread. No **** having muscles doesnt make you younger. I said that gaining muscle is more difficult as you get older and steriods help older people gain muscle. Roger Maris hit 61 Hr's not 63. Maybe you shouldnt be commenting on steroids in baseball when you dont know **** about baseball.
This thread is about the great summer of 1998 when McGwire and Sosa were in a race to break the HR record. It saved the game of baseball. We now know that McGwire was on steriods and the whole thing was a giat fraud. I want to know what people think about that, and I am curious as to why America doesnt seem to care too much about it. I personally think we as baseball fans were cheated and McGwires records should at the very least have a * next to them.
Explosivo 03-18-2005, 11:47 AM Like clockwork. Every time someone gets offended, they get defensive. Nice intelligent posting. So I got Maris' total wrong. Sorry.
If it gives you a reason to go off on someone, you can. Throw some more insults in there while you are at it.
Sorry Mr Sensitive. Its just annoying when you post a somewhat serious thread and people who know little about the subject come in and post rediculous opinions as if they are fact. Didnt mean to upset you.
Explosivo 03-18-2005, 11:59 AM I suppose the only serious answer would be one that disagrees with their steroid use. Sorry for "damaging" your thread.
I dont care if I am agreed with or not. You said that steriods have no affect whatsoever in baseball which anyone who knows baseball would tell you is complete bull****. That, in combination with your 63 Hr's for Maris told me right away that you dont know **** about baseball and your opinions on this subject dont really count for much. I am looking for different knowlegable opinions on the subject. This thread isnt so much about steriods in baseball as it is about McGwire and the, IMO, lie that he perpetrated on the American people in the summer of 98.
I guess your opinion in regards to McGwire is that steriods dont matter and he would have broken the record without them? I take it you didnt follow the HR race in 98 between Sosa and McGwire?
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 03-18-2005, 12:03 PM I thought everyone knew he was on steroids when he broke it? Frankly i yawned because of it.
I didnt know this is new, it was like he was skinny as hell one year an big ass bull with veins popping out the next. Definitely didnt look natural or worked.
rediculous .
It is spelled "ridiculous". You ****ing moron.
I make the mistake of saying 63 instead of 61...
and you cannot spell an elementary word. Retarded assclown.
That is the funniest **** I have ever seen.
This tells me you do not know dick about the English Language.

I thought he was probably on steriods too. I think that has a lot to do with the fact that what happened yesterday isnt that big of a deal. I think a lot of people were suspicious of McGwire. What do you think about him breaking the record while on roids?

Com'on man, go find another thread to spam.
:loser:
xrhythmxnxbluesx 03-18-2005, 12:16 PM wasnt he on steroids since the 80's??... iono but like what bonds said... that doesnt help you with eye coordination in baseball... i dont really care bout steroids if they wanna kill themselves slowly juss to be better then everyone else thats there thang...

That senile old bastard Bud Selig needs to implement a rule where by any player caught using roids is banned for life. That rule needs to then be enforced properly with regular testing.

I agree that the penalties should be a lot harsher.

Frankly i think it should have an asterisk next to it or instead of it being part of the MLB record because so many people use steroids now there should be a seperate record for the roids users. In there, Mcguire's record would be placed.
m00ks 03-18-2005, 01:16 PM Who gives a **** if he took roids, Morales and Pac are fighting tommorow lmao
joeboxer 03-18-2005, 01:45 PM I know this is a little out of place, but I don't want to start a thread just for this.
Jose Canseco is a douche.
IwatchBoxing 03-18-2005, 01:48 PM Their records should be striped, Barry Bonds looks like a freak, not good for Baseball, unfair advantages take away from the game.
Explosivo 03-18-2005, 01:55 PM I know this is a little out of place, but I don't want to start a thread just for this.
Jose Canseco is a douche.
He is a douche, but at least hes coming clean. Its ****ed up that he ratted on the rest of the guys, but we cant shoot the messenger. People like McGwire should stop taking shots at Canseco and take resposibility for their actions. McGwire acts like hes the ****ing victim in this situation. What a scumbag.

First thing is that Jose will never be clean. He is the dirtiest thing in baseball.
Second the 1998 season was not magical and did not save baseball. Dollar beer and dollar hot dog wednesday did.
DR. FREECLOUD 03-18-2005, 03:57 PM who cares baseball sux. such a boring ass sport.
Dr.Depravity 03-18-2005, 07:37 PM From what I read. Sounds like the senate was more awstruck than anything else. Kissing the players asses, then blaming baseball for not doing more to stop steroids. Lets put the blame where it belongs.
SonnyG8R 03-25-2005, 09:23 AM Another example of no good deed going unpunished.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2020890
In an AP survey of HOF voters a majority said they would not vote for Big Mac because he refused to lie under oath and say he had never taken steroids. Bonds however looks like he will still get in as he continues to lie out his ass and insist he has never taken any performance enhancing drugs.
What a load of double standard bull****. Either they should both get in, or niether of them should.
Explosivo 03-25-2005, 10:01 AM I think that both McGwire and Bonds are cheaters and niether one should make it into the hall. They should both be shamed in front of the country for what they did.
I cant beleive McGwire was cheating during that 98 season and had the audacity to take on the hero role at the same time. Bonds is just making matters worse for him by acting like the consumate victim in this case. He acts like everything that hes getting is brought on by others and not himself. My bet is Bonds sits out this whole season, then retires. I dont think we will see Bonds on the field again.
SonnyG8R 03-25-2005, 10:09 AM Bonds' ego is too big to not go for Hank's record.
I'd love it if he developed some roids related affirmity that kept him from ever playing the game again. That would be sweet justice.
boxerman 03-26-2005, 12:25 AM Truthfully thouhg, how many pro athletes do you think havent done steroids at some point. Its not even that uncommon in amatuer sports. They are pretty accessible and if done correctly not even that harmful. Not all steroids will make you gain alot of weight; some just make you alot stronger and even help endurance to an extent. There job is the sport they are doing. They were doing what was in their best interest.
Lets say there are two IT people. One has the money to take classes and get more certifications. The other guy cant afford to do the same thing. The guy with the certifications gets a better job. Should he be called a cheater b/c he used his resources to better his carrer.
