Why in the world would Bernard Hopkins and Golden Boy Promotions issue a 24-hour deadline for a July match with Jermain Taylor, when we're ONLY IN MARCH?!?! Training camps take, at most, 12 weeks, and press tours take, at most, 2-3 weeks, so a July PPV fight only needs to be signed by about mid-April....

This deadline is BS, Hopkins is using this as a media stunt so that he won't look like the bad-guy, even though he knows that 1.5 million is about 1/2 of what Taylor is worth, & that a fight doesn't need to be signed in the next 24 hours in order to make it happen for July.

WE SEE RIGHT THRU YOU BERNARD! This BS deadline is exactly that, BS. This is Bernard's way of ducking Taylor and getting *****-made Felix Sturm instead. What a travesty.

The champ doesn't duck a prospect. If the prospect wants a good pay day and a shot, he'll take him up on it. If not, he'll keep padding his record til his day...

I don't think 'Nard thinks Taylor will take him up on it, but Hopkins is the champ. We'll see how eager Jermain is for his shot. I'm guessing he's in no hurry...

Not really bro. Hopkins camp is issuing this deadline just to give the Young man a chance to fight him. Im sure there's a lot of prospects against Hopkins. This deadline is legit and Sturm is not ***** made he is a hell of a puncher.

I wouldn't say Sturm is a hell of puncher.

Hopkins is just trying to show the world that Taylor isn't ready to fight him no matter what he or Lou Dibella says.

Sturm has 1 punch, a jab, the most basic of all punches, the Kid couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag, i was being a dick about calling him *****-made, he is a decent fighter, but extremely one-dimensional.....

Taylor is the only legit contender to the crown, and Bernard's people are trying to rush the young contender into a quick payday by giving him bogus ultimatum's, why can't the deadline be April 10th? Or april 20th? This would leave plenty of time to promote the fight.....and besides, other than these 2 guys, who could bernard fight?

Taylor is the one who has been saying he is willing to fight Hopkins for the past two or three fights. Nobody is rushing Taylor. Both Dibella and Taylor have been talking now Hopkins gives them the fight and they don't want it.

Maybe Hopkins doesnt want to risk losing to the young prospect, knowing full well all he has to do is wait for Trinidad to finish his fight with Winky for a huge payday.

so what is Sturm's KO % again? less than 50%?!?! That's *****-made, even my main man Johnny tapia, who never could punch hard, had a KO % over 50.

I really can't blame him. Although there really isn't a big chance of Taylor winning, just "easy" money for Hopkins.

Thats absurd, Why give him until april 20th to think about it? The sooner he inks the deal the sooner he can get his butt in the gym and train for the fight of his life. What a bunch of bull****. If he needs an extension to sign the contract it will only deter his training time. That is a pretty good offer for a prospect and this would leave him plenty of time to train.

I dont see a problem with a 24 four deadline at all. Tayolrs been saying that he wants him, so heres his chance. How much time does he need to back up what he's been saying. Hopkins is the champ and if he wants to put a dead line on the offer he has more than the right to do it. Besides, since Taylors been calling him out, how much time would he need to think about it. Hes been saying he wants him for many months. I could see Hopkins' handlers doing this as a put up or shut up type of deal. Why leave Taylor 3 or 4 more weeks to talk more **** if he is going to take it anyway. He could take it now, put a little bit of integrity behind his previous words and fight Hopkins.... :boxing:Rockin'

That is soooo right. A challenger pay is determined by how many people he is going to pull in to a pay per view fight. I don't think there is any way that Taylors name adds 1.5 million to any fight.

Now Tito and De la hoya could legitimatly ask for much more. Even Mayorga, but Jermain doesn't have any fans despite the fact that HBO has been handfeeding him for a year. :bottle:

That and beating the wrong guys does not add credit to his name. Joppy, yes he is a good fighter..but certainly no marquee name. Raul Marquez was fighting when Jermaine was screwing the pegs on to his BMX mongoose.

So just because he dont knock everyone out he's *****made? would you fight Sturm? If he beat the **** out you, what would that make you? If you wouldnt fight him, what would that make you? We are all entitled to our opinions, but no boxer is *****made. Not a single one. They all sacrifice their bodies for this sport, so support them, voice your opinion, or shut the **** up.

is nard still wanting options on taylor if they fight, as reported earlier this week????

i dont think sturm could beat nard or taylor, though i think he'd do well and deserves to fight them....

If I do recall, Raul hammered Taylor good with a few shots and sent Taylor packing....Taylor cant deal with pressure he would fold...Raul hurt him, I could only imagine the shots that Hopkins would land on him...*ouch*

This is really simple. If Taylor wants the fight, in his heart, he will take the money. He has plenty of time to think about it. This is more money than he has ever made. He is very young. I think he may be ready to beat Hopkins but maybe he doesn't believe it himself.

So sad.

Bring on Sturm then, maybe?

joeboxer

Not really because Hopkins is definitly a silent partner type. He basically just gets a little bit of a check from Oscar for going out recruiting boxers, adding legitamacy and such. I know what your saying that Nard will get a little of Taylors money even if he loses, but Hopkins really isn't a promoter.
