That means we aren't counting UK. And they have to be born in Europe. Who gets your vote? Here are my candidates: Ingemar Johansson, Max Schmelling, Paulino Uzcudun, Georges Carpentier, Marcel Cerdan, Nino Benvenuti, Henry Maske, Johnny Bredahl.

Out of all these, I think I'd pick Benvenuti.

Excellent question. I will go with Cerdan

That's a good question. I'd go with one of the following; Marcel Cerdan, Steve Collins, Paulino Uzcudun, Laszlo Papp, Max Schmeling, Georges Carpentier or Nino Benvenuti.

Kostya Tszyu isn't to bad a shout either.

My top 5 would probably be:

Benvenuti
Cerdan
Tszyu
Loi
Carrasco

You can't choose Collins, since he's not from continental Europe.;)

He's from Republic of Ireland, which isn't part of the United Kingdom. It's North-western Europe, which should qualify him.

Yeah, but it's an island, so it can't qualify.

Lol. Oh yeah. He was an infant when he moved to the states. He did speak some sort of danish according to reports though. He's also listed as danish on boxrec and is in danish boxing literature considered a (durable) dane.

So him being danish means that he is with little doubt the greatest ever continental european boxer.

OK he's in.
Though to quote Wellington just because a dog is born in a stable it doesn't make him a horse.
Did he speak as much Danish as Ayub Kalule though? :)

Haha. I can't really remember if Kalule did speak danish though. In any case he doesn't live in Denmark any more, but if he did I'd claim him :lol1:

Kalule and Kalambay were probably the best European boxers in the 80's. Which is pretty depressing, since neither is really EUROPEAN!:lol1:
