Schaefer questioned the legitimacy of UFC pay-per-view results that were leaked. He said HBO is a publicly traded company that would face serious repercussions for releasing false numbers. The UFC, he noted, is a private company with no such concerns.

“I think the UFC and boxing should be able to co-exist and work together in this thing that we call (combat) sports,” Schaefer said.

“I don’t want to talk (expletive) about the UFC. But Dana White can’t do an interview without knocking boxing. If he thinks we’re idiots and don’t know anything about the pay-per-view business, I’ll make him a challenge.

“I am willing to hire one of the top three accounting firms, at my expense, and do an audit of his pay-per-view results. They are nowhere near what is put into the public. There is talk that UFC 100 did 1.6 million, but it barely broke a million. I am willing to pay to have the audits done to prove this.”

White said he would not allow anyone other than fighters with a contractual right to do so to audit his numbers.

“Do you think I’m (expletive) crazy?” he said. - Kevin Iole (http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news;_ylt=AvJmiZfRa6ee.WtzgcL5Zh6UxLYF?slug=ki-boxnumbers092509&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)

White's response ratches up my suspicion of UFC's ppv numbers.

It's not as if the UFC is saying that 100 sold that many. It's guys like Meltzer, who claim they have insider sources, that put out the numbers so i've no reason to believe any of the numbers are wrong. Im sure they're off a bit but not by much.

Also, since the UFC isn't claiming they did any amount, why would the they allow someone to do an audit? If Schaefer wasn't obligated to release his numbers and someone offered to do it, he'd say the exact same thing

so inorder to get an unbiased and accurate count of how many ppv sales actually happened he should e-mail some biased fighting website.

Im pretty sure that ufc dosnt release any numbers at all neither does kuffma or what ever its called. so any numbers that exist are made up by the people reporting the numbers. isnt it funny how some sports guy posts an article on how ufc 100 got 1.6 million views, siting absloutley nothing to prove his claim, and now its common knowledge that it got 1.6 million buys yet no one has gone back and asked hey who told you that it got 1.6 million buys?

Why would he offer to audit figures that weren't even released by the UFC though?

This isn't the UFC sitting here saying, 'Hey look, we got 1.6 million PPV buys!'

As a matter of fact, Dana White has always been very secretive with exact numbers.

These figures are from credible sources, with absolutely no ties to Zuffa or the UFC, meaning no reason or motivation to alter or inflate the numbers.

If you want further proof, you would have to look no further than the UFC's revenue from year to year. These numbers directly correlate with the number of PPV sales, and these are actually public record, so no debating needed.

In 2008, the UFC grossed $275,000,000. We all know that the lion's share of revenue for the UFC is from PPV sales. Do the math, the UFC sold 6,345,000 PPV's in 2008. The rest of the money can be accounted for in gate revenue, sponsorship revenue, merchandise...etc.
