Is it just me or does he seem to be a bit unfocused. I remember watching his HBO interview and he definetly looked overweight. He was busy promoting some sort of telecomm company he started. Now he is starting a clothing line. It seems like his is not really focused on boxing at the moment.

When was he ever focused on boxing? He's been more focused on his abs rather than his chin for years now, and it has burned him every time he's tried to step up to the elite level. Vargas will crush Joval, but get dominated whenever he fights somebody that fights back, he's the Macho Camacho of this generation (not so much style-wise, but from the fact that he dominates nobodies then gets hammered by an elite fighter)

no thats not true. he gave trinidad a really good fight. trinidad even resorted to low blows and he even knocked him down. vargas was awesome but he was moved way to fast.

Joval is in there for one reason. He is a hard nosed guy that will come forward that Vargas can look spectacular against.

Don't make anything of this fight, it will be another couple of months before he fights an opponent that has a shot at beating him.

Even some of the guys on the Contender would give Vargas problems.

You can make a guy fast, you can make a guy strong, but you can't make a good chin, you got it or you don't got it, and Fernando doesn't have it....

Neither do I think that Hopkins will fight Vargas. Hopkins has already some targets in sight and with his age getting older and older I don't think that he will meet Vargas in the ring. It is the question whether Vargas can perform convincingly against Joval. Raymond Joval is a tough fighter, he never lost a fight by TKO and he certainly can knock someone out. Don't underestimate this brave warrior.

I agree that Vargas would win, because of what Sturm would not do. Specifically, Sturm would not open-up and let the fists fly, which is the only way to beat Vargas, or you're goin' down. Vargas' head is very tender (not mentally tender) and he'd eventually go down if you kept up the pressure, but Sturm is not that kinda' guy, so he looses to the banger Vargas.

Point is this, Sturm is not a pressure fighter when facing a guy who can bang AND has good skills. I like Sturm's boxing skills, but he doesn't hit heavy enough for Vargas and, very important, Sturm is unlikely to open up for fear of exposing himself after feeling Vargas' power.

Sure Sturm can box, which would be his biggest asset against Vargas, but boxing is not enough when you're facing a guy who can also box plus has heavier hands.

RIZ ... you're not too far from the truth. I'd love to see a guy like Sturm increase his output. He's possibly hiding a chin that's suspect, our that's just his style, but I'd like to see that one change.

sturm used to be a sparring partner for stripe drews, drews says he has a solid chin :D
