View Full Version : Toney vs Ruiz. April 30
joeboxer 03-14-2005, 08:05 PM GL: Ever since ********** broke the news that Klitschko-Rahman was officially postponed, my phone's been ringing. A lot of people are bring your fight with John Ruiz, but not a lot of people know if you'd be ready on time. What can you tell us about this?
James Toney: "I will be ready for April 30, as a matter of fact I'm ready to go the gym right now. On Sunday most people go to church or whatver, but I go the gym. That's my church, that's my sanctuary. I'm working hard already and I'd be ready in time for April 30. I want the people to see who the man is at heavyweight sooner than later. I'm gunning for his title and now the fight is already signed so its up to him if he wants to lose his title on April 30 or lose his title a few weeks later.
"As far as I'm concerned, Ruiz is lucky he's getting that kind of money. He's doing all this damn talking but he better be ready to back it up and take his dumb Puerto Rican ass to the gym so I can knock him out on April 30."
"I'm ready to do this right now. I'm anxious. I was watching Pacquiao get ready for his big fight next week and I'm jealous. I want to get in there and kick some ass take over the entire division."
joeboxer 03-14-2005, 08:07 PM Both Toney and Ruiz are ready and want this fight in april.
Wlad and Bryd might want the fight in april too.
Oh my God, april 30 just got even better than Vitali/Rhaman.
AintGottaClue 03-14-2005, 08:07 PM ruiz is a PR? im glad they have tito......

ejk22 03-14-2005, 08:11 PM That fat prick Toney never ceases to amaze me. He is nothing but a ****ing big mouth.
oldgringo 03-14-2005, 08:13 PM Toney is going to KO Ruiz. I'll put my life on it.
AintGottaClue 03-14-2005, 08:14 PM Toney is going to KO Ruiz. I'll put my life on it.

joeboxer 03-14-2005, 08:16 PM That fat prick Toney never ceases to amaze me. He is nothing but a ****ing big mouth.
If you watched any of his fights from years back you would know how wrong you are. James Toney is an oldschool boxer with amazing skillz. He would have been in the hall of fame without ever coming to heavyweight.
Download the Michael Nunn vs James Toney fight from the torrent section and if you can tell me something that actually proves you watched it and that you still hate Toney I'll give you a million points.
AintGottaClue 03-14-2005, 08:42 PM Toney is going to KO Ruiz. I'll put my life on it.
hey ringo bet me yr user naem and custom title for a motnh, u win ill ch ange my name and title to wahtever u want, i win u do that same
justin04 03-14-2005, 08:48 PM Awesome - I can't wait.
James Toney is a prick, but he's also a fantastic boxer and I think that he's gonna kick the crap out of Ruiz...
borikua 03-14-2005, 08:48 PM ruiz is a PR? im glad they have tito......
He's born and raised in the USA...I think that his mother or father is Puerto Rican, so he's not 100% Puertorro! ;)
Toney by KO! :D
joeboxer 03-14-2005, 09:29 PM toney was just making fun of him by getting his race wrong. He does it all the the time, he has been calling Vitali Russian for years.
He also uses the word "European" as an insult.

Listen to me I don't hate on Toney's skills. His skills were great at the lower classes. My problem with him is at heavyweight. He has yet to do anything at heavyweight and they are proclaiming him the best heavyweight out there. I just want proof before I change my opinion of him at heavyweight.
Sinatra.Jr 03-15-2005, 12:25 PM James Toney given special gift by born in boxing sence.
So he'll win Ruiz like Roy Jones Jr. by UD.
abdiel2k3 03-15-2005, 12:37 PM good fight
but toney may have just lack of movment ruiz needs
hes gonna do the same to him as hes done with past heavies
grab n hit
i def think toney will land more then other guys
since hes quick enough to get couple punches in while ruiz goes in for the hug
and if he can get him to feel some power
he could even discourage him from tryin to hug
tough on to call
but im goin with ruiz decision
not sayin he'll deserve it
but im bettin he'll get it
ejk22 03-15-2005, 01:49 PM I can't ****ing believe it but I am actually looking forward to this fight.
chingon28 03-15-2005, 01:52 PM toney has a big mouth but someone needs to retire ruiz. i cant stand to watch anymore of his fights. the only reason i do is because they actually put him in there with fighters i like. his so bad he even makes them look terrible.
AintGottaClue 03-15-2005, 01:54 PM ruiz toney is a win win fight either toney loses to the worst heavyweight champ to ever wear a belt or we get rid of thay ****ty heavyweight u know that ine guy ;)
ejk22 03-15-2005, 04:02 PM ruiz toney is a win win fight either toney loses to the worst heavyweight champ to ever wear a belt or we get rid of thay ****ty heavyweight u know that ine guy ;)
Either way is ok. I think a loss by either guy throws them down the totem pole of the heavyweight division for awhile.
Super_Lightweight 03-15-2005, 04:08 PM I think some of you are underestimating Ruiz. James Toney doesn't have the foot and hand-speed that Jones had to beat Ruiz. Toney just sits there, and I think that could really hurt him in a fight vs Ruiz with all the grab-and-hit he does.
I can see Ruiz losing but I can also see Toney getting wore out and stopped.
Fareastwarrior 03-15-2005, 05:01 PM Well nice to hear that the fight has been moved to april the 30, cause I wad ****ing disappointed that the original fight has been postponed. So this means that Toney will be KO by Ruiz, I hope, cause I don't like that ugly big mouth **** of a Toney. He will be lights out on april 30. :D
Dear Tony could you please knock this ugly wrestler the **** out of boxing once and for all?
Boxhead2012 03-16-2005, 12:24 AM pleaseeeeeeee Toney. Do all of us a favor and end this guys career. use your elbows, head, or the ring post. It doesn't matter. No more wasted money on PPV.
Toney is going to KO Ruiz. I'll put my life on it.
I think so too. I also feel really sure about that.
I think it will happen mid round, and due to Toney's superior power and accuracy.
The Troll 03-16-2005, 12:36 AM I think Toney will win if he gets into proper shape and trims down to a quite a low weight so he can move well on his feet. The key in this fight for Toney is his ability to move. Toney is by trade a counter puncher which does not bode well for him when he is in there against a guy like Ruiz who does not throw a whole lot of punches. Toney is going to be forced to be the agressor and that is not where he is most comfortable. I still Hope and Think that Toney will find a way to win a UD against Ruiz. He is just so superior in skills at the end of the day.
Famoso Matador 03-16-2005, 12:38 AM I dont know how good this fight will be. It could be the worst fight this year, but another extreme it could be pretty danm good. Why do people think toney has more power than Ruiz? Ruiz is the biggest guy Toney will hace faced in his career. I think toney will be ready to fight, but will see that he underestimated Ruiz when he gets in the ring. Not that Ruiz will bring the pain or anything, but that he is tuffer than he thought. But i still see tony winning the fight by UD on being more active and landing more punches.
SonnyG8R 03-16-2005, 12:43 AM I wish I could get excited about this fight. :(
Moonra69 03-16-2005, 01:08 AM The fight should not be exciting at all and I think that if Tooney can overcome the punch and hug style of Ruiz he should win. For that matter anyone could beat him. Nonetheless, I have to give credit to Ruiz because not having the chin or skills has been able to remain on top, and get good $$$$ for his work. I read somewere that Ruiz did use to fight like this but I guess he found a way to win and make money and from the $$$$ perspective you do whatever it takes, at the end of the day he is driving his hummer and we are not. :boxing:
dcgun 03-16-2005, 02:25 AM I'm with most of you on this really like to see lights out silence the quiet man once and for all. Toney by KO
Kimmy 03-16-2005, 07:10 AM I like most wish Toney to win this fight but i have this feeling that ruiz will somehow win like he always manages to accomplish. Boo Ruiz, i hope he loses..
markosg19 03-16-2005, 10:22 AM this will tell us just how good this james toney is in relation to a heavyweight Roy Jones
GasPed 03-16-2005, 11:36 AM I don’t know why some of you guys seem to think that superior skills will beat Ruiz. You’re wrong - dead wrong.
Almost everyone who’s fought Ruiz in the past 10 years had superior boxing skills, but it’s never done them any good. Ruiz just stalks you with his hands high, waits until you’re in range, then jabs and grabs. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got great defensive slip and move skills, or can throw wonderful inside combinations, or a nice jab/hook/straight right/whatever – you never get a chance to show it cuz he’s hugging you all the time!
If you want to beat Ruiz you need either a) A big natural athletic advantage (a la RJJ, who can leap in and out without being hugged, and still have enough power to do some damage); or b) A big natural size/power advantage (a la VK or LL, both of whom never fought Ruiz, but I’m sure could just beat him at his own game and eventually KO him). Skills have got almost nothing to do with it.
Sorry, but Ruiz beats Toney by UD, just like he always does, Return of the Hugger – Part 12.

Do not say that kind of thing.
It might come true, and I would have to hang myself.
He is so damn boring. I disagree with the clinching thing though...especially against Toney. James is a hell of an inside puncher, and punches well off the break.
i think toney is too good a boxer to let ruiz hug him all night... i'm taking toney by dec. and i think he gives ruiz a beating....

What break? The only thing that breaks in a Ruiz fight is your heart, as you realize you've just thrown away another 50 hard-earned watching two half naked men wrestle for an hour.
There ain't no way that Toney at 210 (with no real jab to speak of) is gonna keep Ruiz off him. Sorry (and believe me, I AM), Ruiz by UD.
Floydmayweather 03-16-2005, 05:11 PM Toney will wear ruiz down and ko him late.

So do you mean superior physical advantages like Sergei Kobosoev who beat him or maybe the amazing advantage that Daneil Nichelson had. Oh wait you never heard of those guys. Guess why? They suck! And they beat Ruizz.
dando 03-16-2005, 05:52 PM Hate to say it, the ref is going to have a big influence on this fight. If he lets Ruiz get away with the **** he pulled on Golota its going to make this an uphill battle for Toney. On the other hand if the ref messes up Ruiz's game plan like he did with the Jone's fight, Toney will be on easy street. I think that the difference is Toney has the skill to possibly take out Ruiz even if he pulls out all the cheap ****.

Uhh... ...I have heard of them, and guess what, they beat Ruiz over ten years ago (and by SD)! And the Ruiz who fought then was nowhere near as "huggy" as he is today, not even close. He actually tried to box on occasion then - he didn't perfect his "affectionate" approach until later on his career.
I totally agree that Toney will need the ref on his side to have a chance, but even then, I don't think it'll be enough. Toney loves to slide around on the inside, slipping and countering while his opponent looks for openings. But it only works if the opponent has his own hands free and is looking to land himself. There's no way Toney will be able to even free his arms, let alone land a punch, with 240 pounds of man-embrace all over him.
At least that's my sad take on the whole affair. :(

he uses the word "frankenstein" as an insult. i can't wait for this fight, ruiz is gonna lose ( probably not on the scorecards, though ) but he'll be thoroughly outboxed. please God, i hope toney stops ruiz late, and ****s his **** up, too. i hate ruiz, this time he's goin down
Sinatra.Jr 03-17-2005, 05:00 AM Tony will win but can't knock Ruiz out. He'll win by dec.
