Ok, now we all know the Gators are the superior team. The only question is how many gifts the refs give them, and can the Gators overcome them all. lol

SonnyG8R 09-18-2004, 09:21 PM whats a run and why will they get killed...i used to play john madden on my mega drive so i know about it a little... its in 4 downs right..like quarters.....?? ok my knowledge evaporates after that Offensive plays are either runs or passes. If the defense can't stop the run the game is over because they will score at will and tire out the defense in the process. 14-14 right now. Great game! Has the Hopkins-DeLaHoya fight started yet? PacKillsMorales 09-18-2004, 09:28 PM no but a round by round has appeared as promised and it start 8-15 there time...ive asked for a how long till fight so check the post out for more info SonnyG8R 09-18-2004, 09:48 PM 21-14 Gators lead at half time. SonnyG8R 09-19-2004, 12:36 AM The Gators got robbed. I'm disgusted. We were ahead by 1 point with under a minute to go. The gators were going to let the clock run down to 15 seconds and punt into the endzone. That would have left the Vols with 1 hail mary shot at the endzone. Instead a vol player smacked a gator player in the head right in front of the ref. The gator player smacked the vol player back and the ref called the gators for a 15 yard penalty. Wosre it stopped the clock giving the vols time to run a few plays and get in field goal range. Total bull ****. Congrats tracy. tracylee 09-19-2004, 10:44 AM I agree the call was bull****, but there is no guarantee that it wouldnt have ended the same way. It was 15 yard's, but there is no way you can say they wouldnt have gotten into field goal position anyway. Wilhoit is amazing (minus the extra point he missed; the only one he's ever missed in his entire career) and all they had to do was get him down to the 50. It was a great game, and both team's played their heart's out. I told you last week, and I'll tell you again, the bet doesnt count. I'd never ask you to use a Vol avatar, under any circumstances. I understand youre pissed; but I really do hate that youre bitter....I had hoped we could joke about this in the future. I love ya Tracylee, and I'll be happy to honor our bet and wear a Tennessee avatar for 2 weeks. The game was outstanding, that is why I am so disappointed that it ended the way it did. As you agree it should have been offsetting penalties and the clock would have ticked down to ~15 seconds. A kick into the endzone takes about 6-7 seconds and if they made the vols return it it would have taken the entire 15 seconds. So the best scenerio for the vols was that either they returned the kick off for a td, or had a perfect hailmary to about the gator 30, and then managed to lateral and make it into the endzone. there would have been no time to get in field goal range, ****e the ball, and kick a fieldgoal. I don't mean to be bitter. I thought both teams were pretty evenly matched. I just hate to see it end like that. It's ok though, we can still joke about it. Last night the pain was still pretty raw. I was even snapping at my wife. She bought sonme candles that she wanted to show me just as the game ended and I yelled at her "Honey I don't care!" Anyway I was very impressed with Chris Leak, our recievers did a pretty good job although they dropped a couple perfect passes, and Fason did a nice job running the ball. I was very impressed with the Vols running game. It was giving the gators fits early on. Also your QB, not Ainge but the other one, reminded me of a mini Micheal Vick. He'll be real good in the years to come. The question is will he be with the Vols. Thats one problem with having 2 great young qb's. Whoever loses the starting job probably won't be content to stand on the sidelines with a clipboard. Anyway I meant it when I said congratulations. A win is a win, and I'd be happy regardless of how I got it. tracylee 09-19-2004, 02:13 PM I'm glad youre not bitter, and I hate it for the wife...sometime's their timing is just way off!(I happen to love candels too, so I feel sorry for her). All of the point's you made are very good, valid ones. But, as far as the hailmary, just last year Casey Clausen threw an outrageous hailmary and put the Vol's in the lead against the Gator's right at half time. So, my point was, as a true orange-bleeding fan, I never give up hope til the clock run's out, and I'm sure you dont either. The game was too close, too down to the wire to even guess what the outcome would have been if all the penalities that were missed had actually been called. Its funny that you posted earlier that the ref's would give us gift's...around here we have a saying "we have to beat the ref's and the other team". They have never been kind to us. Not in defense of the penality (it was bull****) but did you notice that the UT player just barely, jokingly smacked him? And the the Gator player hauled off and smacked the hell out of him? Like I said, they both should have been penalized, and that naturally would have offset the penality...but, then again. Dont worry about the avatar; it would cause me extreme pain, grief and nausea to use a Gator avatar for only an hour; I would never do that to you. And I agree with you on Shaeffer...I like him much better than Ainge..hope we dont lose him. Alot of people keeping calling him "mini Vic" I'll keep checking in; Tenn. Titans are playing right now SonnyG8R 09-20-2004, 08:55 PM SEC official admits timing mistake in Tennessee's defeat of Florida By The Associated Press The Southeastern Conference's supervisor of officials said Sunday the crew working the Tennessee-Florida game erred in handling the clock, allowing the Volunteers more time on their final drive, which ended with a game-winning field goal. The mistake occurred when Florida receiver Dallas Baker was called for unsportsmanlike conduct after DeShawn Wynn was stopped on a third-down run with 55 seconds left in the game, with the Gators leading 28-27 Saturday night. After the penalty, the officials placed the ball on the ground and began running the clock on the snap for Florida's fourth-down punt. Bobby Gaston, the SEC supervisor of officials, said because it was a running play, the clock should have started on the "ready" — when the referee winds his arm — and not the snap. "We left it to start on the snap when we should have started it on the wind," Gaston told The Associated Press on Sunday night. "If there's a penalty, you always go back to the result of the previous play, which was a run." Gaston was at the game and noticed the mistake. "I did, but the crew didn't," Gaston said. "But I'm not down there on the field. Unfortunately, I realized we had missed it." James Wilhoit kicked a 50-yard field goal with 6 seconds left and No. 11 Tennessee (2-0, 1-0 SEC) won 30-28, its first win over No. 16 Florida (1-1, 0-1) at home since 1998, the year the Vols won the national championship. Messages left for Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley, Tennessee AD Mike Hamilton and Vols coach Phil Fulmer late Sunday were not immediately returned. Gaston would not comment to the AP on the penalty on Baker, but Florida Today, which first reported the story on its Web site Sunday, quoted Gaston as saying both teams could have been penalized on the play. "After looking at it, it appears to me it should have been an offset, that both sides were equally responsible and then the clock should have started on the ready for play," Gaston told the newspaper. "You just offset it and put the ball down where it was and wind the clock." Gaston said there's "accountability with our officials," but any punishment issued would be discussed with both schools and decided by the SEC's commissioner. He said any punishment would not be made public. Gaston said he didn't know if the mistake cost the Gators the road win, but the timing of the call magnified its importance. "If it happened in the first quarter, you wouldn't be talking to me tonight," Gaston said. tracylee 09-21-2004, 03:27 PM But of course..I would expect nothing less than an article to spoil the victory. Funny how it's only Tenn. that this kind of thing happen's to; anybody else and it's just a win, period. Nit picking and splitting hairs usually only happens here. How many team's have victories that maybe should have gone different; how many penalities are bogus, or not called at all during a game that would have changed the outcome? Only Tenn. I'm sure. How many team's have victories that maybe should have gone different; how many penalities are bogus, or not called at all during a game that would have changed the outcome? Only Tenn. I'm sure. Tracylee, that artical was from a nationwide news source, not some biased Gator publication. The FACT of the matter is that the Supervisor of officials admitted their was a mistake. Now I admit that most penalties/mistakes don't usually determine the outcome of a game. The great teams overcome those kind of human errors. But this was a unique circumstance. First the penalty should have been off setting and the clock should have continued to run. Tennessee kicked the game winning fg with 6 seconds left. What would have happened if the clock had run off an additional 45 seconds as it should have. I hope I don't have to spell it out. Second, and the bigger blounder is that EVEN WITH the penalty the clock still should have started at the start of the play, not at the snap. That was HUGE. Now could have Tennessee run back the kick for a td or thrown a mirical hailmary? Sure, it's possible. I am just saddend that we didn't get to see that happen. Refs shouldn't determine the outcome of a game. I'm sorry if you don't agree or if you are mad at me for pointing this out. And as for the whole "how many penalities are bogus, or not called at all during a game that would have changed the outcome" arguement, it doesn't hold water in this case because if you check the stats you'll see that Tennessee was hardly penalized at all. I think they lost 5 yards the entire game while the gators were penalized for about 12 times that amount. Look You know I like you and I'm a huge sports fan. Your team won and you should be happy. But they did receive a gift. That being said if the circumstances were reversed I would say "yes we did receive a gift, refs make mistakes sometimes, deal with it". :p tracylee 09-21-2004, 04:18 PM Sonny you know i'm not mad at you...none of this mess is either one of our fault's..and I already agreed with you the other day that the call was bull****, and the penalities should have been offset. It just bug's the hell out of me that the biggest victory of the entire season ( for me anyway just cause of who we played) is being analyzed, inspected, cut to pieces and tarnished so much when I have seen so many games over the yrs (both college and pro) that had so many game altering call's etc.. and nobody complained or made the newspaper over it. It also bug's me that the fact that the clock stopped working completely and the ref. had to count the time (which could have lead to error's much earlier in the game, who knows?) and the fact that the only reason it wasnt tied was cause Wilhoit, who has never missed a field goal missed the most crucial one just doesnt count for anything. It's not like we were slaughtered; the game was damn close all night long, and it's a shame to the Vol's and the fan's who played no part in the clock malfunction, or the ref's bad call as to where to reset the clock ,to come out looking like lucky cheaters. All of this is based on human error; but who look's bad for it? During the 3rd quarter the ref. was having to count how long they were on the scrimmage line (check spelling) and who's to say he kept an accurate count all of the time? With that in consideration, who know's exactly how much time was on the clock in the first place? It just doesnt seem fair, that's all. My problem isnt with you; it's with the officials for having their head's up their asses in the first place, and making the entire state of Tn. look "lucky" or like cheaters. slickhook 01-21-2005, 08:51 PM Sonny you know i'm not mad at you...none of this mess is either one of our fault's..and I already agreed with you the other day that the call was bull****, and the penalities should have been offset.
