Klitschko pulls out of Rahman defence
It seems that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and former titleholder Hasim Rahman are destined never to meet after Klitschko today pulled out of the eagerly awaited clash with a pulled muscle in his upper thigh.
Initially Rahman refused to face the giant Ukrainian because the financial package was not suitable. But late last week Rahman agreed terms with promoter Don King and the fight was set for April 30 at Madison Square Garden, New York.
Klitschko reportedly picked up the injury whilst out jogging Friday in Kiev. It is hoped that the fight will be rescheduled for sometime in June, assuming paymasters HBO have a date available.
March 13, 2005.

We are satisfied.
ejk22 03-14-2005, 12:54 PM Could the WBC strip Vitali of his title because of the injury? I would not put it past them.
Soundtraveler 03-15-2005, 05:35 AM Gee, a pulled muscle in his thigh, yeah right, like he is a fighter who uses alot of movement anyway!
Quitali does it again!
This isn't a kick boxing event, and he doesn't dance around the ring like Sugar Ray Leonard, so what's the friggin' deal?!
Screw Quitali...

....Looks like the fight is still gonna happen, but only a little later. What exactly did he do again? He has never been known to pull out of fights for phantom reasons. Do you really think he fears Rahman?
tri4ben2 03-15-2005, 10:55 AM How bad could his leg be?
All VK has to do is stand in the center of the ring and jab-jab-one-two Rahman all night until Rahman can't get back up.
How on earth did that guy beat Lewis?
Sinatra.Jr 03-15-2005, 12:55 PM I want to see this bout ASAP. probably Vitali wins early rounds.

What exactly is your problem with thisn man????
Thinking of the LL match its ridiculos to call VK a quitter.
He damaged his Leg so he will fight rahman in june instead ( sad to wait but thats how it is).
The frigging deal is not only in the ring, i have a injuriy in my left glutes so i cant run and it realy ****s upp my stamina.
Ore do you think that stamina aint major factor in boxing?
Soundtraveler 03-15-2005, 02:13 PM Give me a break, the guy pulls a muscle in his leg while jogging, and it's going to take months before he can box again - are you kidding me?! It's not like he tore a hamstring, who hasn't pulled a muscle before? And did it keep you out of work for months?!
This guy isn't mobile to begin with, he just stands there anyway, so what if he has a pulled muscle in a thigh, is he a fighter or a ballet dancer?!
And as far as stamina goes, when has he ever shown any? He is breathing hard by the 3rd or 4th round in every fight, even the commentators speak of it during the fights....
oldgringo 03-15-2005, 02:17 PM mommy i pulled my wittle weg muscle. i dont want to fight the big scawey wahman. :D
I still like Vitali, but come the **** on...
he has about as much heart, as Derrick Gainer
I have ZERO respect for
Quitali. I like him, but do not respect him.
I think Rock stands a chance;
and I hope he knocks that big ***** smooth out.

How many injuries have you sufered? ive havent been abel to run for a year.
Have you ever been boxing???
Okay so dont have the best stamina.
But if he breaths heavy after 4 rounds how the **** do you think he will without running???
He aint backing off, he aint scared he`ll just fight rahman a little later.
Super_Lightweight 03-15-2005, 04:27 PM Some of you are way out of line. You act like Vitali ****ed your mom or something. Are you Kirk Johnson fans or something?
Let me help you guys. Klitschko and Rahman will fight (probably on June 18th based on recent reports), and when they do fight, it will mostly be a one-sided beating. Rahman will not finsish the fight.
I'll bet all of my points on it.
enadeus 03-15-2005, 04:29 PM I pulled both my calves while playing basketball a few weeks ago. Was back playing the next day. Give me a break. Also hyperextnded my arm twice in one week. haha.

...Your absolutely right, I have never seen such crying over an injury that is gonna hold up a fight for 2 months total. Big ****in deal already. So Rahman gets his ass beat later rather than sooner. What the hell difference does it make? Maybe it isn't a thigh injury at all but a hand injury that he doesn't want to disclose for obvious reasons and wants a couple more months to get it healed. Vitali has more than gotten past that Byrd issue so get off his ass about quitting when you know that it's bull**** and the guy has tons of heart. Any of you **** talkers who wanna wager real money on Klit/Rahman just step up to the plate and we can get it done when the time comes.
The Fix 03-15-2005, 04:38 PM i guess vitali wants to have his belts a bit longer.
if and when the fight happens rahman by KO in 8

Your a complete idiot, you have no clue what the hell your talking about. Vitali tore a muscle in his thigh not pulled it.
Why the hell would Vitali be afraid of Rahman when first he's the one who made the fight, and took on Rahman, and two he took the heavyweight champ Lennox Lewis on a 2 weeks notice. Makes litte sense to me that he's afraid.
And last breathing with your mouth doesnt show bad stamina, his output remains average throughout the whole fight. I guess you havent seen any previous Vitali fights, I would guess besides the Sanders and Williams fight you havent seen any Vitali fights.

The heavyweight division is so boring right now, even when Lennox Lewis was around, to me it was boring. I hope some new blood comes in and shakes things up. All these guys are recycled Rahman,Golota etc... from the 90's.

Soundtraveler 03-16-2005, 05:21 AM You see, that is what happens when you pump a guy up on "roids", muscle that isn't earned the right way doesn't hold up well.
I guess next he will have the fight postponed while his court case gets settled, since now he is going to have to sue his legs for non support!
And to think Enayze called me an idiot, it's funny, from what I have read the only person saying Quitali tore a muscle is some kid on this very website - amazing that you got the scoop before *********, or ESPN, or any other reputable source in the sport!

Leff, are you trying to tell me that nuthuggers don't have a sense of humor, you are all comical to begin with.
He is a descent fighter for his era, but not even close to being as good as the champions of the past, he isn't even as good as Lennox Lewis was, and he never will be, the sooner you can admit that much to yourself, the sooner everyone else will quit making fun of you nuthuggers! Until then, have a coke and a smile....

How good he will be ore if he will be any better i dont know, and yes i think he would have a good chance against a younger lewis as well as the older on he fought.
And ive never said that he lives upp to the likes of ali, marciano, foremann, frazier etc. And im not saying that he is near theyre skill level i dont think he ever will either.

Torino 03-16-2005, 12:04 PM Vitali Klitschko has about a 93.5% KO ratio (37fights/34ko's), The WBC championship belt, has never been knocked down, and has never been behind on the score cards at the end of any of his fights including his two losses to Lewis and Byrd. That's more than Lewis, Byrd, Ruiz, or any other current top HW can say.
It's a funny name, but no one called him Quitali when he fought Lewis. In fact, that performance proved he has heart and determination. Just listen to the audience cheer for him at the end.
That’s a legitimate champion to me.

O.K., if you want a serious answer, Rahman is not a quality Heavyweight either, and to beat him is not going to improve Vitali's reputation. The lack of quality fighters in the division combined with the fact that Vitali is just simply bigger than everyone else in the division is the ONLY reason he will be able to keep the belts. It won't be because of his skills as a boxer, because he doesn't offer much skill wise.
Vitali is lucky he didn't come along when the division included Foreman, Norton, Shavers, Ali, Frazier, Lyle to name a few. All of which would either KO him or have his face looking like it did against Lennox. He would have been nothing more than a second tier fighter had he come along then.
The funny thing is, the nuthuggers are unable to recognize him for what he is, and that is a Grade B fighter who is in a division full of Grade C and Grade D competition. I mean damn, Ruiz is the worst excuse for a boxer that I have ever seen - and most of the competition in the division can't even beat him!
So if you want to say Vitali is the biggest and best terd in the pile of crap that is the Heavyweight Division today, I would have to agree, but don't come up to me telling me he is a great fighter, because he isn't...

....Calling him great is premature but degrading him in the fashion that you are is way too harsh. Because of his size which you pointed out and his strength I think all of those guys you mentioned would have had a hard time with him. He is very awkward(not unskilled), hard to hit, punches extremely hard, has a great chin, and is extremely focused and intense every single time he enters the ring. What more can you ask for from the guy? He has also never been dropped and has literaly outboxed every guy he has ever faced. Man if that's unskilled then I will take that kind of unskilled any day. So, your saying that no matter who comes along and no matter how highly skilled they might be, it still won't matter in your opinion even if Vitali knocks them out? Man Soundtraveler, I love ya, but you just basically defined the term hater with your response. Give Vitali a frickin break already my man. I don't think Vitali would have been much of a match for any of the fighters in the era I mentioned, Lewis didn't find him hard to hit did he? If you can name even one elite fighter in the Heavyweight Division today I will be suprised, because I can't think of one.
Would you call a big college guy who goes into a high school and beats up smaller kids a great fighter? No you wouldn't, but that is what the Heavyweight Division is these days, one big guy beating up a bunch of smaller guys. If that impresses you o.k. - but it doesn't do it for me.
I don't hate him, I respect what he does for a living - it takes big balls! I don't hate any fighter except for maybe Ruiz, but damn, I get called an idiot for not being a nuthugger, I have met the man, shook hands with him, he is nice enough - but I am not going to fall at his feet and declare my undying loyalty! He is just a man, but to some of you, he seems to be a God - it's rediculous!
