UFC President Dana White says he's outraged that Strikeforce has signed former football star Herschel Walker to make his MMA debut at age 47, and he ripped Strikeforce's TV partner, Showtime, for engaging in a gimmick that makes the sport look bad.

"I think it's ridiculous," White told Mike Chiappetta on the Inside The Ultimate Fighter podcast. "People think we're anti-competition? We're anti-dumb competition. Doing stupid things like this, putting a 50-year-old guy in the Octagon for the first time, and then going out there putting out press releases like it's a big deal because you signed a 50-year-old Herschel Walker? Are you serious?"

White suggested that Strikeforce's partnership with Showtime has changed the way it does business, for the worse.

"Strikeforce is a small, little, regional show," White said. "The geniuses over at Showtime, these guys are the most arrogant, ****y, pompous jackasses I've ever met in my whole life."

Noting that Walker has no experience as a fighter, White questioned whether a suitable opponent could be found for him, and he questioned whether the fight would be sanctioned at all.

"Which athletic commission is going to let this guy fight?" White asked. "Who the f**k are they going to find to fight Herschel Walker? A guy in a wheelchair?"

In reality, athletic commissions sanction fighters with no experience all the time: Everyone has to start with an 0-0 record. And while it's true that not many of those fighters are 47 years old, not many of them are world-class athletes, either. If Strikeforce wants to make the Walker fight happen, it can find a sanctioning body and an opponent to make it happen.

But that doesn't mean White has to like it. Said White of Strikeforce's decision to put Walker in the cage, "It's completely disrespectful to the sport."

Dana has 3 or 4 former NF players on TUF...he really has no reason to ***** about this...

Are those former NFL players 47 years old? No. I agree that at his age, a MMA career is foolish imo. But to each his own.

Look, Dana has a point. It's OK to be young and inexperienced, or old and very experienced (couture!)

But old as the sun AND an absolute noob at the sport ? Come on, Strikeforce has to bite the pavement and be crushed.

Randy Couture is nearly as old as Walker and White just re-signed him to a 6 fight deal

But Randy has shown over and over again he can still fight at the top. His age doesn't seem to slow him down.

Signing a 50 year old that has never fought in MMA before is just plain stupid.

It got mainstream news coverage, attention to 'that other MMA league'...I imagine they schedule Herschel easy and he gets a few fights and that's it

Kind of like NBA star Kendall Gill's boxing career, which lasted 3 fights when he was 37 years old

randy is shot but he has 30 fights worth of experience... after seeing wes shivers and marcus jones struggle with their cardio on TUF, 47 is way too old to start training in MMA.

white only signed randy to keep him from going to strikeforce and signing with them so he could get beat to death by fedor. fedor would knock randy out cold

He does at least have an MA background. I believe he's a 6th dan in TKD, for whatever that's worth (not a knock on TKD, just the Mcdojos).

I'm not talking about helping them. Yeah, it will get some new fans but I'm talking about the dudes health. He's old as dirt, and has never stepped foot into an cage or ring. They better give him some scrubs.

Strikeforce is dumb for doing this, but Dana White needs to shut the **** up already.

I'm going to say 47 year old Herschel Walker is one of the top 5 most athletic guys in mma, and that's not knocking mma, this guy is still an amazing athlete.

And Walker called out Dana White on ESPN today to fight each him.

no they're not, but who cares. If the guy really wants to try then why not? Might not be the smartest move he's made but it's not wrong, maybe he shouldn't be in this level of competition, but let's face it. He's not gonna be fighting any Shogun's or Machida's in strikeforce so oh well.

sure did, and i still don't see anything wrong with the guy wanting to get into MMA. Maybe at this level it's not 100% correct but whatever, Dana just gotta learn to **** down and deal with his own ****. Obviously something about this scares him which is why he's *****ing about it.

As long as he doesnt get horribly overmatched whats the big deal? He is a great athlete with an excellent work habit, he said letting Kimbo fight was wrong too. If Walker does good expect Dana to try and sign him.
