how is barrera higher than PBF and pacqiao and wright?
Kimmy 03-13-2005, 11:49 AM Boxrec doesn`t regard popularity has the criteria for its ranking. Yes it is true that Ruiz is boring and no one like him but he has had better competition than Klitcko of late, much better actually.
Sanders is an old golf player who averaged 3 fights in 3 years going into the Klitscko fight. Danny Williams is a good journeyman who beat but a shot Tyson. Ruiz beat Golota who was coming off a draw with the IBF champ, he stopped Oquendo and he beat Hasim Rahman before that!
So yeah, why not rank Ruiz above Klitscko on the quality of opponents.
Lenny 03-13-2005, 11:52 AM There was no fights. Is it a joke?

because we all know he would have whoped byrd (again) and ruiz.
PRboxingfan 03-13-2005, 12:21 PM Boxrec uses a formula (sort of like the BCS) where they factor in your record and the dificulty of the opponents to determine your ranking.

What is that about? Why dont they just put every Mexican fighter on the list to save them time, they probaly left one out.
pimpin2 03-13-2005, 12:57 PM Yup Boxrec has a computer system that generates the rankings. NO POPULARITY
!! Anorak 03-13-2005, 03:05 PM So how come Audley "bang a bum" Harrison is in the top twenty?
abdiel2k3 03-13-2005, 03:08 PM maybe don kings reached the site
just like most the sanctioning bodies
lotta weird rankings there
Lenny 03-13-2005, 03:09 PM Someone chose his own champs.hehe
joeboxer 03-13-2005, 03:10 PM So how come Audley "bang a bum" Harrison is in the top twenty?
good question. Or Nicolav Valuev or Joe Mesi or Mike Tyson.
I like their rankings though, not that I understand them. You have one unbeaten guy who is 18-0, Roman Greenberg and he is like world rank 130, then you have another Sam Peter and he gets into the top ten.
Kimmy 03-13-2005, 03:21 PM Sam peter though has faced higher ranked opponents hence his higher rank. Greenberg has faced nothing but unknown bums!
joeboxer 03-13-2005, 03:31 PM he has been fighting guys with winning records like 2:1 ratio. Rhaman, Bowe, Tubbs, McCall, and probably Tyson in his next fight have been matched up with worse guys and we talk about them all the time
But Ruiz before Vk is the worse ranking ive ever seen.
Im not sure man.
Ruiz has beat better opposition.
I would not rank him higher than VK though. That is crazy.
Ruiz is the classic example of a "Paper" champion.
Meaning his record looks impressive, but he does not.

Yes, but he has lost clearly 5 times and even been knocked the **** out in the first round. And Ruiz had some gift decicion, everyone knows he realy lost to golota.
VK has 2 loses both by injurie, besides do you honest think Ruiz would stand a chance against VK.

How exactly can you rip on them for their list then rank Morales over Barrera?
And if you guys think those rankings are skewed check out their jr. welterweight rankings.

I'd pick Morales over Barrera, IMO Morales got the better of Barrera over the 3 fights. Pacquaio and Jones both handed Barrera his ass.
Morales is one of the best fighter P4P without any doubts.

I dont think Ruiz stands a chance against Toney never mind Vitali, i think Vitali would hand Ruiz a beating.

No, I dont.
However; rankings do not work like that.
You would have to hold a gun to my head for me to rank Glen Johnson higher than RJJ. Even though he knocked him out.
RJJ is ten times the fighter.
was the better fighter
he's finished IMO
dempseyfire 03-13-2005, 07:05 PM Roman greenburg has fought no'one . . .it doesnt matter if hes fighting guys with winning records . . .Charles Shufford, Jeremy Williams, and Diaz were all guys with world class experience hence Peter is ranked higher.
We talk about Tyson, Bowe, etc. b'c they have proven themselves already as top fighters. even if now they are fighting bums.

I guess to each his own opinion, cause imo Barrera won two of the three bouts(of course imo the two he won are I+III), but Jones beat Barrera like 8 years ago, and imo he has gone on quite a tear since then until he fought Manny. And imo looked as good as ever in his last fight while moving up in weight and whipping Morales' ass! Also don't get me wrong I do think that Morales is a top ten p4p fighter.
rogue_warrior 03-14-2005, 01:19 AM Gotta give it to Ruiz, he may have a sorry ass style that couldn't draw flies, but he has beat better overall compettition than Dr. Klitchko. I may not agree with the ranking system of BOX REC, mainly becuase it just adds up the wins and not if they were close, blowouts etc... That's why Larios gets points even though Wayne McCollugh may be older than dirt, he had very respectable record. Don't hate on the Mexican Boxers, cuz they fight often and top level guys.
+= El Jefe=+ 03-14-2005, 09:45 AM i have seen the ranks in
boxrec.com
and i really dont agree with them,
how credible are they??
AintGottaClue 03-14-2005, 09:49 AM boxrec is really only for a reference site, they rankings r done by a computer, since byrd has a *win* over vitali he must be number 1 to the comp
So it realy sucks donky dick in other words.
number6 03-14-2005, 01:15 PM At heavyweight they have mat skelton at 11 ,above wbo champ
lamon brewster who only gets in at 23.what a complete joke.

Yeah, its just personal opinion.
My point about Jones was that Barrera has shown weakness during his career, i know it was a very long time ago but i cant remember Morales having any problems like that, both losses are debatable.
Both Barrera and Morales have done more in their career than P4P ratings suggest. if take away the 20 defences by Hopkins only the Tito win stands out, where as Barrera and Morales dont need title because their records speak for themselves.
