After feverish discussions and intense negotiations WBC light welterweight champion Arturo Gatti and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. have agreed to fight on June 25, 2005, at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. There is a deal in place with HBO Pay-Per-View for the bout. The breakthrough in negotiations came when all parties involved agreed to switch around dates to accommodate Arturo Gatti’s training schedule.

“All the parties were very flexible re-arranging dates and sites,” said Kathy Duva, CEO of Main Events, Gatti’s promotional firm.
“This is boxing at its best with all sides working together—especially Bally’s Atlantic City President Ken Condon—to effect compromise and reach a solution where everyone wins, particularly the fans.”

“I am so happy this is resolved,” said Gatti.

“I can’t wait to get back into the gym so I can punish Mayweather come June 25.”

“The fight is on because this is the fight the public demands,” said Bob Arum, President of Top Rank, Floyd Mayweather, Jr’s promotional firm.

“It will be the biggest jr. welterweight fight ever.”

“This will be a great fight for the public,” said Mayweather.

“And I want the fans to know that I will be victorious.”

They'll jump it in time. This makes the people who assumed Gatti was ducking look pretty foolish in my opinion.

Good to see the fight is on. This fight needs to happen...see if Gatti can pull off the unlikely.

The contracts may be signed, but I'll believe it once I see both guys in the ring on June 25.

I appluade Gatti's promotional crew for finally putting him in a competitive fight (no, the Ward fights don't count, he was an average fighter with a style that was taylor-made vs. Gatti)

This is Gatti's 1st real fight since Oscar dominated him a few years back, let's see how he reacts against somebody with a pulse.

Floyd, if the fights goes down, will win 10 of the 12 rounds and cruise....to a draw in the Atlantic Gatti convention center

Mayweather is going to win. This is going to be the most one-sided fight ever. The score is going to be 120-108 on the score cards, and that's only if Mayweather doesn't stop him first..

I don't see Mayweather stopping Gatti.

And this is a re-post by me, just so you see it hopefully.

90 percent of the threads started in the opinion central forum are by Rick Reeno so they are worth checking out.
