I think there is no question that James Toney hits harder just look at their records.

Toney turns into his punches better than byrd does. also he punches with more intentions to hurt sumone than byrd as well. and he's got one mean uppercut

Good point Byrd throws his punchs with the intention to pile up points not to knock anyone out.

As far as heavyweight standards neither is much of a banger, as all of you have figured, but James is the better puncher. They both turned pro at much lighter weights, Toney at middleweight(160)and Byrd at Supermiddle(168). James does punch harder but that is nothing against Byrd, who has always been the stylish, yet some believe, boring boxer. Funny thing here, Byrd actually made his pro debut against a man that was James' stable mate when James was an amatuer. Just a little fun fact, or not so fun. The opponent in Byrds debut, Gary Smith, was a good south paw boxer until he was thrown in with Stanley Longstreet, who broke Garys jaw early in his career. Gary was never the same after...............Rockin'

What a stupid post, how would you know. Its obvious that Byrd is the weakest puncher and uses his skills to win fights. Toney no doubt, but still how would I know?

toney , and i think his power is underratted , he can crack at HW , he is not the hardest hitting HW , for sure , be has sharp punches , short uppercuts , and he stoped holydield.

holyfield was shot for sure , but stoping him still proves that you can punch .

Actually no, Toney, like mentioned in a previous post is actually a PUNCHER even at heavyweight. People assume that when a fight jumps up through the weight divisions that their power will suffer for it. In some cases this is true but not in all. A fighter, like Toney, who uses his body to punch rather than his weight will get results when hitting heavyweights. Holyfield, even though shot is still hard to KO and Toney did it in style!
Toney i feel is a better puncher than Ruiz, Byrd and Jamel McCline to name a few that come to mind. Remember, just because he isn`t a natural heavyweight doesn`t mean he can`t punch!

Good post. Toney doesn't have devastating power at HW but he can definitely crack...as Holy and Booker will tell you. Toney at HW = FMJ at Jr. Welter. Both guys don't have big power but they can **** you up over the course of the fight with their accuracy and precision.

Speaking of Toney, does anyone know if he will be facing Ruiz and when?

Byrd is a lot closer to his prime than Roy, and Toney has major problems with slicksters like Byrd. Look att he Griffin, Nunn, and jones fights. Byrd will not be an easy win for Toney if they ever fight.

Byrd does not...p4p...have as much power as these guys outside of maybe Griffin. He wouldn't be able to keep Toney off as well. It can also be argued that Toney is a bit of a different fighter now. No doubt that Byrd would still be a very tough fight, but Toney would be more effective against that slick style IMO.

Toney punches, Byrd slaps. Remember Toney/Holyfield? Tonry did put Holyfield on the canvas. Has Bryd ever knocked anybody down?

That's the same Holyfield who lost EVERY round to Larry Donald, who himself is way past his prime. Toney didn't stop Holyfield...age stopped Holyfield.

Exactly. Its like saying Mayweather is the best at 140 when he only had 2 fights at that weight.

I cant believe this is up for debate, Toney hits a lot harder than Byrd and he only throws arm shots, if his lazy ass put some effort in he would hit twice as hard a Byrd. :D
