Yesterday I was at a smoothie bar just hanging out, when 2 guys walked in what caught my eye was that one of the guys was wearing a Puerto Rican boxing trunk and a cutoff shirt w/ the Trinidad vs. De La Hoya fight photo. I sorta eavesdropped on their conversation and they were just going over a few things they had worked on(so the guy wearing the trunks was a student and the other guy was the coach). So as they were leaving I followed them and I don't know how the hell I didn't notice as i went in the bar to begin with. That there was a boxing gym on the same block as the bar. Anyway as the two made their way back in their gym I decided to just walk in, immediately a salesperson approaches me goes through his whole spiel.... I saw the same coach who just came from the bar just hanging around by a wall, I decided to walk over to 'em and introduced myself . So I found out that he was a former I.B.F champ and if I remember correctly he was also a W.B.C champ I think he got 'em both as a flyweight. His name is Manny Melchor, he also lived in Japan for quite some time as a pro fighter but he told me at the time he was living in Japan he changed his name to a japanese name( I don't remember what his japanese name was). He supposedly good friends w/ Luisito Espinosa, I asked him who was older he said Luisito was a few years older. So my question is does anybody know this former champ and was he any good or just one of those paper champs?
