View Full Version : Sick of ESPN's PPV promos

Okay, so did anyone else get sick and tired of ESPN plugging the hell out of their PPV card last Friday? Jesus Christ, every second word out of everyone's mouth was April 23rd, April 23rd, April 23rd. It was like one of those infomercials...they should have called the show "Incredible Discoveries in Boxing", or something like that.

I understand promoting a big card you got coming up, but it seemed like EVERYTHING that night, including the Juarez fight, was secondary to everyone plugging that damn PPV card. Every five seconds we jump to Diaz or McLine and, wouldn't you know it, they're both on the PPV! And obviously both got coached to say April 23rd, April 23rd as much as humanly possible.

Looks like FNF is gonna suck until then too. No fights next week, and then week after that, they have "Irish Night"? Give me a break. Looks like they took all their money and sunk it into the PPV card. So basically we have to pay now for what we used to be getting for free. Gee, thanks ESPN.

Sorry if this has already been discussed in another thread (I couldn't fine one, but I might have missed it).

Oh yeah, and where did they get off saying that "a lot of people" thought that McLine won the fight against Byrd? It was a close decision, but almost everyone as far as I know gave it to Byrd. They're just trying to build this guy up to be something bigger than he is. So ESPN's lying about fight results now to promote their events? They better not complain about Don King anymore, then.

Did I say it was a bad card? Christ, pay attention. What I don't like is the aggravating non-stop promotion of the damn thing. If ESPN called you up every five minutes to remind you to watch the PPV would you just smile and nod? Well, that's what it was like on FNF last Friday.

Plus FNF is gonna get worse and worse if these PPVs catch on. Excuse me, but I like a free fight on TV now and then.

It's their first PPV. Of course they want it to be a success. You said you don't like how much they aggravate about it, yet you're doing exacly that.

But yeah, I kinda understand how you feel about it maybe having an impact on Friday Night Fight.

I understand that. The thing is when something is over-marketed is just becomes obnoxious. If you mention the PPV card, you don't have to mention it again like 10 seconds later. It's not so much that they were promoting it is that they were doing it in such an unclassy way. It was used car-salesman style, or, like I said, infomercial-style. All that was missing was the cutaways every five minutes to show you the 1-800 number.

I agree they were getting out of control with all that, but on the bright side they are bringing us a really good cardm and it's under $30.00!!
