View Full Version : Chances in becoming an artista in Philippines
Mr.Sharapova 09-08-2009, 12:29 AM If you have a white complexion, financially stable, handsome, and pretty your chances in becoming an artista is higher than a morena/no who has an average face?
I have an arguement with my professor that if you have this certain qualities your chances are higher than an average Filipino who aspire in being an artist here in Philippines.
Being an aspiring director, I look for qualities in artist in theater than spotting someone who possess this qualities. Example (Pinoy Big Brother)
Mr.Sharapova 09-08-2009, 12:36 AM Is this the right perception?
I dont think that Sam Milby is great actor. Just because he has the face and body doesnt mean he can act good.
Eugene Domingo is an example what an artista should be. She studied theater arts in U.P which attribute to her acting skills.

maybe...
Chups 09-08-2009, 12:26 PM Somehow this is true.....majority of our artistas are have white skinned complexion and a lot of them have a foreign parent. 2 days ago I didn't know Hermosa was half Canadian....kala ko pa naman pinoy ang mga magulang.
Anyway, ultimately most of these "fair skinned" stars are mediocre and fades away in the long run. They never become superstars.......
:lol1:

Sounds like you are talking about those bading talent scouts before. Yes, they are always looking for mestizas/mestizos and from well to do families. But you are right, the better actors/actresses can be found in stage theaters and may not posses the typical mestIza/mestizo profiles.
Jonee Gamboa and Bembol Rocco are my examples.

Let's use our good looks to earn extra money. :nana::rofl:

balintawak 09-08-2009, 05:30 PM It is an undeniable fact. Most of the actors and actresses in the Philippine entertainment industry are lighter skinned than the average. Basically the more European looking Filipinos have the advantage. Just like in basketball, if you don't have the height, you have to make up for it in skill. In this case, the darker and flatter nosed Filipinos have to be more impressive to the producers and other executives with their greater abilities.
The Bollywood movie industry in India has the same issues, most of their actors and actresses are also lighter than the average. It is common in China and Japan to have operations to make their eyes look rounder or more European. The Philippines has many products to whiten skin. These are all symptoms of the world we live in. The most fashionable will always be the people on top, and for the past several hundred years the whites have been the supreme rulers of the planet.
The only question is how could your instructor argue this point? Sorry, but your instructor seems to blind (figuratively speaking).

aba pwede rin! :lol1:
