SacTown1 03-05-2005, 05:05 PM Ward, Chi, Morales, Holyfield (10 yrs ago), Holmes += El Jefe=+ 03-05-2005, 05:10 PM Ali(parkinsons) Chavez (nothing can keep him from what he loves) Meldrick Taylor (he never gave up) hitman7hearns7 03-05-2005, 06:16 PM not really a big name but a tgh kid micheal brodi at feather weight his first fight with injin chi was amzing it got fight of the year i think 2003 la motta was unbelivable cast iron chin would neva go down or stop coming Lol999 03-05-2005, 06:33 PM Nigel benn. Love him or hate him but if you hit him he just kept coming back giving as good as he got. Lol :D enadeus 03-05-2005, 06:33 PM All the top dogs at the 130 and 140 pound divisions make the list. bangbangko 03-05-2005, 09:22 PM Lots of good mentions in this thread...but I gotta give it to Arturo Gatti above all else. He's the toughest bastard of my generation by far and not putting him at the top of my list would be a robbery. There's a good reason why they call him the ultimate blood & guts champion...gotta love it baby. BB emole123 03-05-2005, 09:28 PM Benn was mentioned, but how about Gerald McClellan. You hear fighters saying they would rather die in the ring then go out a loser, but in the case of McClellan he just about brought those words to life. A never say die warrior in the truest sense, as he fights for ability to live life each and every day. czars_salad 03-05-2005, 09:29 PM tito trinidad how many times he'd been knocked down in a fight, and fought back and win those fights? czars_salad 03-05-2005, 09:31 PM Benn was mentioned, but how about Gerald McClellan. You hear fighters saying they would rather die in the ring then go out a loser, but in the case of McClellan he just about brought those words to life. dude, your avatar speaks of a great warrior who never say die also.... i'm a big fan of gatti and trinidad, of course pacman, :D Kimmy 03-05-2005, 09:37 PM Tito kinda gave up in the Hopkins fight after being floored in the 12th. I swear i saw his lips motion "No Mas" to the ref! czars_salad 03-05-2005, 09:41 PM Tito kinda gave up in the Hopkins fight after being floored in the 12th. I swear i saw his lips motion "No Mas" to the ref! was it the infamous line of duran? wmute 03-05-2005, 10:44 PM well i am surprised no one mentioned joe frazier, ali was had to be hospitalized after the first ali fight) and just kept on coming, as someone said in some other post in the foreman fight he would have kept getting up until the ref stopped the fight. Famoso Matador 03-06-2005, 12:06 AM Juan Manuel Marquez, He went down three times in the first and finished the match against pacquio. RwK 03-06-2005, 12:11 AM Gatti Mosley Jirov Morales MAB Lol999 03-06-2005, 05:06 AM Thing is Mclellan did quit, he swallowed it and that's a fact. he voluntarily took a knee and quit the fight. Just when you think Benn was down and finished out he'd come as mad and dangerous as before. Lol Prostitroop 03-06-2005, 05:27 AM Johnny "The Matchstick Man" Owen From his humble beginnings as a sick, frail infant to his meteoric rise through the ranks of boxing. The man fought and died in the ring Click on the image for a video tribute of the Matchstick Man http://www.trevor.jones4.btinternet.co.uk/WebGifs/statuef.jpg (http://www.johnnyowen.fsnet.co.uk/tmm.html) xrhythmxnxbluesx 03-06-2005, 05:55 AM gotta go with gatti mann... straight up the ultimateblood and guts warrior... stix 03-06-2005, 08:34 AM :biggthump then ~ Jake LaMotta :boxing: now ~ Arturo Gatti :biggthump PessimisticPug 03-06-2005, 12:23 PM i had just begun boxing when a friend of mine brought over a video. We were kids and he put it in the vcr and said, This is faces of Death, you'll love it. I didnt like the thing at all. When it showed Johnny owen it freaked me out. Some things in this world are not meant to be exploited for money. I realize that boxers roll the dice with their lives at stake everytime that they step up to throw but I found it extremely distatefull and unsettling to watch the clips of the bout. a silent ten count for Johnny. He fought to the end.........Rockin' PessimisticPug 03-06-2005, 12:34 PM I just watched the video from the giant wang, it was very good. Seeing the clips in that video gave me a different feeling than watching it on the f.o.d video. This was done with class, in the memorie of Johnny were the other video was pure garbage. Thanks for putting that video clip up. As johnny did, it has heart........Rockin' leff 03-06-2005, 01:49 PM Marciano, frazier, ali, holyfield and dempsey were all true warriors. .::|ULTIMATE|::. 03-06-2005, 03:04 PM A few are: Morales, M. Taylor, Cesar Bazan, Juan Manuel Marquez. In my opinion Barrera should not be included. TheGreat1 03-06-2005, 06:26 PM Holyfield Chavez Lamon Brewster Gatti Ali/Frazier DCReprezenta 03-06-2005, 06:29 PM [QUOTE=rightuppercut]Ali(parkinsons) Chavez (nothing can keep him from what he loves) not even a Kostya Tszyu right hand or DeLaHoya jab? hmmmmmmm. DCReprezenta 03-06-2005, 06:31 PM morales, gatti, trinidad, barrera, ward no offense to neither, but wasnt it Trinidad who all but quit against Hopkins....and Barrera who pretty much looked for a way out against Pacquaio? hmmmmmmmm. TheGreat1 03-06-2005, 06:32 PM [QUOTE=rightuppercut]Ali(parkinsons) Chavez (nothing can keep him from what he loves) not even a Kostya Tszyu right hand or DeLaHoya jab? hmmmmmmm. Chavaz was ending his career when he fought them, he would have beat both of them badly in his prime. DCReprezenta 03-06-2005, 06:35 PM Chavez in his prime was a never say die warrior, but he kept fighting past his prime so we must include that into the equation...and honestly Oscar woulda beat him in any era, jus too big and hit too hard, Chavez could take shots from fighters his size, imagine if Oscar hit Chavez wit those punches Taylor landed for 11.25 rounds...Chavez woulda looked like Rocky Dennis. PessimisticPug 03-06-2005, 06:37 PM good post dc. Chavez was a never say die warrior, I agree with 100% of your reply. Especially the rocky part........Rockin' DCReprezenta 03-06-2005, 06:40 PM Never Say Die: Mickey Ward (the guy thrives on pain, never forget hearing him say he wanted to continue after the low blow from Gatti. Same left hook that ended the fight against Dorin, Ward took on the pelvis) Evander Holyfield (who else but Evander would fight his heart out literally, against Bowe with hepatitis...several fights were finished with bodily injuries that other fighters quit from.) TheGreat1 03-06-2005, 06:44 PM Chavez in his prime was a never say die warrior, but he kept fighting past his prime so we must include that into the equation...and honestly Oscar woulda beat him in any era, jus too big and hit too hard, Chavez could take shots from fighters his size, imagine if Oscar hit Chavez wit those punches Taylor landed for 11.25 rounds...Chavez woulda looked like Rocky Dennis. don't forget Taylor alot of shoot that fight too, that landed him in the hospital with internal bleeding. Could DLH have taken those shots? DCReprezenta 03-06-2005, 06:48 PM Question is, "would De La Hoya have taken those shots?"...Oscar's 5'10 and had equal overall speed to Taylor with much more power. TheGreat1 03-06-2005, 07:03 PM Question is, "would De La Hoya have taken those shots?"...Oscar's 5'10 and had equal overall speed to Taylor with much more power. Oscar is quick, but not equal to taylor. JCC was a great fighter and would have been able to land, i really think JCC could have taken DLH's shots, but i don't know if that goes both ways, i would go with JCC by late KO DCReprezenta 03-06-2005, 07:09 PM wow...Oscar's handspeed as a young fighter was brilliant, Chavez was tough no doubt, but with that much skill and such a heavy left hand i think Oscar would have spelled trouble for Chavez in any era...and we have come to find out that Oscar can hit and run for 12 rounds. Truth 03-06-2005, 08:40 PM 1.)Holyfield 2.)Trinidad 3.)Ali 4.)Gatti Tha Greatest 03-06-2005, 09:46 PM Meldrick Taylor - HIS NUMBER ONE!!! JC Chavez Evander Holyfield Arturo Gatti Micky Ward Marvelous Marvin Hagler Jake LaMotta Nigel Benn Gerald McClellan Thomas Hearns-u gotta put this guy in there, he may have got knocked out a few times, but did u see the way he tried to get up against Marvin Hagler, he was doin it while he was out cold Muhammad Ali Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga Marco Antonio Barrera czars_salad 03-06-2005, 10:01 PM ward-gatti fights are the showcases of never-say-die attitude klev1 03-07-2005, 02:24 AM ward-gatti fights are the showcases of never-say-die attitude what he said. Manila Eyes 03-07-2005, 03:36 AM was it the infamous line of duran? "No Mas" (No More). KJ 03-07-2005, 10:01 AM Marvin Hagler for sure Also JC Chavez Evander Holyfield Arturo Gatti KJ 03-07-2005, 10:05 AM Nigel benn. Love him or hate him but if you hit him he just kept coming back giving as good as he got. Lol :D Didn't he quit, in his last fight?! Mike Tyson Jr. 03-07-2005, 10:05 AM morales, gatti, trinidad, barrera, ward trinidad retired for 2 years after he got beat. he is a quitter. KJ 03-07-2005, 10:08 AM trinidad retired for 2 years after he got beat. he is a quitter. Did he not come back?!! Lol999 03-07-2005, 11:06 AM Didn't he quit, in his last fight?! Probably, but after the war he went into with Mclellan he was allowed such a luxury ;) I think after his last fight, against Steve Collins I think, he pretty much said "the spirits willing, but the old body just can't hack it any more" Lol :D |
