View Full Version : Castillo vs. Diaz / Lacy vs. Williams
Slipx 03-05-2005, 02:18 PM First off, we have Diaz, a young bull stepping up to the plate, the betting odds are in favor of Diaz thus far, this is bound to fluctuate near fight time though, however I'm sure Diaz will be favored.
My pick?
I look at it from a general standpoint. You have Castillo, a guy who picks shots very well and knows how to relax in there, who also punches with respectable force, but with all his experience, he likely will not take chances against a young bull like Diaz. Then you have Diaz, a young bull who is relatively inexperienced, extremely strong, who is looking to take the guy out early. Diaz also swims, so you know he has that extremely powerful punch.
However..I predict Diaz will be on the verge of coming in and attempting to destroy Castillo, when, he gets caught with a shot from Castillo trying to deliver a punch of his own. This is my prediction. I believe the powerpuncher will generate the very leverage that will put him out, when Castillo connects with the shot in the fifth round, you'll see Diaz coming in with a left or right hook and just having generated power from his legs, he will get stopped by what appears to be not even a huge punch from Castillo.
------------------------
Lacy vs Williams
Lacy again the huge favorite. Everyone thinks it will be an easy KO for Lacy because Williams was stopped in the first round against a guy that doesn't even have an impressive KO record. The thing is, in my opinion, Lacy will get very frustrated and waste lots of energy, after all, he does have a hunter-gatherer mentality..isn't exactly an intelligent fighter..
My pick?
I think Williams has learned a lot from that bout he got KO'd in, and will outbox Lacy, winning a split decision, breaking the undefeated Lacy's record. He's with Steward now, and that is a true student of the game. Make no mistake about it, they have brought in stalking slugger after stalking slugger honing William's skills for tonight's fight.
----------------------------------------------
I hope you all enjoy tonight's card as much as I will.
TheRealDunnagan 03-05-2005, 02:31 PM my pred:

lacy ko1

diaz ko4
lacy ko1
That seems to be the majority pick, I guess we will just have to see what happens.
QueenCity 03-05-2005, 03:43 PM I've see Rubin Williams fight and he seems like the type of guy that will get taken out by Lacy very early, I don't think the fight will last anymore than three or four rounds. As for Diaz/Castillo I think Diaz will look pretty good early but Castillo will be able to pound him away on the inside and win via a late stopage
mic573 03-05-2005, 03:55 PM I say Lacy by knockout.
I pick Castillo by decision. I think in the end his strength will be too much for Diaz who is a good boxer. I think Diaz gives Castillo some problem just like Casamayor did but I don't think Diaz is as good as Casamayor who I thought beat Castillo in December. Everybody seems to be picking Castillo by knockout but I think it will be a decision. I have always said Castillo's power was underrated but now it seems people are starting to overrate his power.
Slipx 03-05-2005, 04:28 PM I've see Rubin Williams fight and he seems like the type of guy that will get taken out by Lacy very early,
His loss against Epifanio Mendoza, ko in round one, definately brings up a questionmark about his chin.
adrsan84 03-05-2005, 05:10 PM I like lacy against williams
I think Castillo is gonna work Diaz the way he did lazcano. If he wins this then beats corrales, maybe he'll get the other diaz after that. if he wins all of those fights thatll finally get him the recognition he deserves.
trinidadpr87 03-05-2005, 06:09 PM Never seen Williams or Diaz so i can't make any predictions.I can't watch it because i just found out my local cable provider isn't having free weekend preview.
this will be my first fight that i will watch jeff lacy i hope he loses.... lol
DIAZ 2round KO i predict he will knock down castillo 2 times in the first round and ending him in the 2nd.
jpboxer3 03-05-2005, 06:14 PM Castillo by TKO7
Lacy by KO3 (Brutal)
MlLkMan 03-05-2005, 06:50 PM Anyone got the weigh-in pictures
Kimmy 03-05-2005, 06:59 PM I predict Castillo either by late stoppage or points win and Lacy by a stoppge, probably between 5 - 7th rounds!
Slipx 03-05-2005, 09:14 PM No weigh in pics.
But Lacy always comes in well trained, it will be tough for Williams to avoid being KO'd in the first round, imo if he can do that he can pull off a UD
Slipx 03-05-2005, 11:09 PM Williams has weathered Lacy's best blows...
like I said, Williams by UD
PessimisticPug 03-05-2005, 11:14 PM i honestly cant see williams pulling this off. In the center of the ring he does great, doesnt really even get touched. But then lacy forges his way in and williams just stands there. He needs to employ some movement if hes going to pull this out........Rockin'
PessimisticPug 03-05-2005, 11:18 PM lacy by 7th round tko. the ref stops the fight....Rockin'
IwatchBoxing 03-05-2005, 11:26 PM Is it just me, or is Hatton BIG? He has a double chin, and next to Kostya he looks twice his size.
Konstantin 03-05-2005, 11:29 PM lol i love kostya's accent- 3/4 australian and 1/4 russian

The anouncer just agreed with you
PessimisticPug 03-05-2005, 11:37 PM yeah, he did look a bit pudgy to me as well. 3 months and that will be gone. Aswell, is it that hatton did not display much confidence or is he just an overly humble type of guy. I say tyzsu delivers a beating to hatton when they meet.......Rockin'

What a startling prediction you made. Never heard anyone claim that! :boxing:
Stickman 03-05-2005, 11:41 PM Is it just me, or is Hatton BIG? He has a double chin, and next to Kostya he looks twice his size.
Actually, I think I counted 3 chins there, not two ;)
Very chubby, but he's got 3 months, he'll get it off in plenty of time.
Where did you guys see Hatton?
Tszyu drove in the celebrity F1 Grand Prix race this morning and said that he starts training tomorrow for the Hatton fight. He also said that he has to lose 15kg's (33 pounds).
Stickman 03-05-2005, 11:53 PM He and Tszyu were interviewed side by side (on different sides of the world...ain't technology great? ;) ) after the Lacy/Williams fight.
Slipx 03-06-2005, 10:06 AM That was a great card they had last night. The undercard bout was more interesting than the main event. ;) That was some of the best infighting I've seen in a while!!!
I honestly thought Williams was going to pull it off until the ref called a halt to the action. I could not believe the sheer punishment Williams was absorbing, I wouldn't be suprised if he got a hemmorage in that fight.. One of the things Steward always trains his fighters in if they have been KO'd is extensive neck training, and how to slip a punch correctly....williams proved that he learned alot from steward and that other guy who has been training him. Even though he lost, he proved to me that he is a serious contender. Lacy obviously had been working his chinjitsu as well ;)
as for the main event, i thought it was going to go all the way until round 6

...Yeah, I don't know about Williams having any chance in that fight at all regardless of the stoppage. Lacy is not affected by shots that land clean and he just keeps coming. He may get in trouble when he meets a serious bomber but who knows. That kid can take some shots. He seems like a really nice guy too and he is from St. Pete so I gotta root for the guy. I hope he fights Calzaghe and takes his head off.
