So Clinton Woods is the new IBF champion of the world, eh? Sure, he'll never be the most stylistic or intuitive of fighters, but he was on good form tonight, expertly counterpunching and knocking Hoye's head back continually.

I thought the commentating team were a little biased and would have given Hoye two out of five rounds... though as the ref took two points off for low blows then it put Woods up three points anyway.

What was the funniest face - Clinton's when TWICE he was on the verge of KOing Hoye, only for the OTT ref to step in and break it up and lecture Hoye about low blows? Or Steve Bunce, who didn't seem to give a damn about Joe Calzaghe's phone in?

Meanwhile, Haye's low-output one-and-a-half round KO of Kelly was given away somewhat by John Inverdale. "It was a test on paper, but did it prove to be that way...?" Why not just tell us who won, John?

Still, two good fights. Clinton's a nice guy, he deserves it. And he was competitive against Johnson, so who knows...?

Inverdale always does that before fights. he says .....was it a mismatch...or would it go the distance..
I wish he`d stop giving the mtch result away!

About half an hour before the fight I considered doing an online bet because Clinton was the underdog... but I just didn't think he'd have the heart, he seems too nice (he seemed a little ****y afterwards actually)

But though Hoye was the aggressor Clinton was controlling 90% of the fight.

Rico Hoye lost 11 of 12 rounds to Montell Griffin the way I saw it. I'm glad he wasn't rewarded with a title belt. Although - Clinton Woods? Looks like there's a new favorite for Roy Jones Jr's comeback fight...

hahaha yeah thatguy gave the haye fight away.
and kelly was a joke.

hoye didnt win or draw any rd against woods IMO

and when i saw em nose to nose before it started i thought
hoye ko in rd7. woods really handed him his ass.

and yeah woods-jones II would sell me thinks.

especially if the winner gets johnson (or tarver)

That was the best i've ever seen woods, he totally took Hoye apart and there was no way Hoye won any rounds in my book.

I'd like to see him take on Calzaghe, i'm sure the money would be good for woods. I presume that would be on Sky and not BBC?

before the fight i thought hoye would knock woods out, despite living less than an hour away from his home city i've never rated him much. but credit where it's due, he was very good last night and despite the best efforts of the ref it was a good fight. well done clinton. on the subject of david haye, the punches that knocked kelly out were quality shots (no chicken dance this time glen) but if he keeps holding his left hand down by his waist he'll go knowhere. and the BBC team suck. woodhall is a better commentator than he was a fighter but the rest suck ass.

Looks like there's a new favorite for Roy Jones Jr's comeback fight...I was thinking about that... that's the most comprehensive defeat Woods has ever had (the only time he's ever been stopped).

But nowadays you'd have to give him a chance, wouldn't you?

Hahaha! that was funny!

I obviously wasn't the only one who thought Calzaghe sounded like a boring old twat. If he does get to fight Woods, I'll certainly be preying Clinton puts an end to the joke that is Joe Calzaghe.

You kidding me? Woods has no interest in fighting Calzaghe. It was clear as day. He had the chance to stir interest but he blew it. There is no money in Jones Jnr II for Woods. Glen Johnson won't fight him for a 3rd time either.

I actually think Calzaghe would win, but as we all know, boxing has less to do with who's got the talent to get there and who is in the right place and with the right connections.

Woods is now a reasonably hot property (correct me if I'm wrong, but he's the only British fighter with a respected title belt, if you disregard the WBO). Joe, meanwhile, has been in his comfort zone for so long I can't remember a decent opponent he's had since Eubank.

I didn't say he wanted to fight Calzaghe, nor did I suggest he would be the favourite.

i know this is really trivial but what i loved about this fight was the way woods pointed at hoye at the ned of the first round it reminded me of a gladiator poiting his gladias at his oppent in a challenge a little fansieful i know but i think little thing like that make fight
great performance buy haye as well that last shot that he threw sorta whiped kellys feet leftward and the punched travelled right through his head brilliant

i was for once pround to be a british fight fan!!!

Yeah, I think Hoye inspired that by hitting (and not just once) after the break. Full credit to Woods for last night (though in some of rounds 3-4 he did take more headshots than I would have liked). He was in control for an enormous amount of time.

As YouSendIt seems tempramental tonight, then I've shaved off all the post-fight interviews to make the Haye fight 100mb smaller... I'll have a go at reuploading now.

I thought Woods would lose so fair play to him he really did the business and impressed me, and if Haye can hit you then you go it's as simple as that, lets get him in with some one who can bang a bit and take a decent shot, cos i still think his stamina is gash. Hope clinton can make a bit of coin this year cos he isn't going to keep the belt for long, so it'd be nice for a gimmee defence then a good money match

Notice how Joe wasn't calling Showtime the next night to call out Jeff Lacy. It was the other way around. Joe better price himself out of that one...
