There are tons of books about how to organize something like that, if I remember right from my days in the bookstore. Everybody was always looking for them.

A club I belong to in college is wanting to do a charity event and I am going to be proposing on doing a weekend event with all proceeds being donated to the Gerald McClellan trust fund. It takes over 70,000 a year to keep up with his medical expenses and in case you dont know. Everyone in the boxing community that was once with him turned their back on him, a lot still support him but every little bit counts. I am going to propose it at the next meeting.

figure out which type of event you want to do first off. Secondly to advertise said event go around to your local media (radio/tv) and drop off flyers to advertise this event and ask them to run it as a Public Service Announcement. all media outlets are required to run PSA's so you could probably get some free advertising this way.
