View Full Version : Best Chins in Boxing Today enadeus 03-04-2005, 02:16 AM There is no doubt in my mind that Kostya Tszyu has the best chin in boxing today. shadymg 03-04-2005, 02:19 AM wasn't this done here: http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30219 and when's the last time tszyu's even been tested anyways? enadeus 03-04-2005, 02:22 AM Yea I guess it should be renamed to how good is Kostyas chin, I think it is solid and it will be a great challange for either Mayweather or Gatti knock him out. I just don't see it happening. shadymg 03-04-2005, 02:50 AM deus, while i don't question ur knowledge or KT's chin, im curious how u came by this decision? who has he actually faced that's hit him hard/often that he sustained & won? Cletus Funk 03-04-2005, 03:34 AM There's nothing wrong with his chin but it's far from being the best in boxing with people like Hopkins, Toney, McCullogh, Morales and several others around. All these guys have faced bigger hitters than KT has without ever looking like being stopped. KT's been stunned by people like Urkhal and stopped by Phiillips. pinaldino 03-04-2005, 03:56 AM There's nothing wrong with his chin but it's far from being the best in boxing with people like Hopkins, Toney, McCullogh, Morales and several others around. He was ducking most of the punches but some landed flush if I remember right..I'll watch it again and check it elveiel 03-04-2005, 05:39 AM There's nothing wrong with his chin but it's far from being the best in boxing with people like Hopkins, Toney, McCullogh, Morales and several others around. I gotta agree, Tszyu has a solid chin but he's been stunned in nearly every fight, even Leija and Mitchell did it. hitterwitter 03-04-2005, 05:58 AM Wayne McCullogh & Erik Morales for me both have been in a lot of wars and never been knocked down (Morales slipped against Barrera it wasn't a knock down). Top 5 1-McCullogh 2-Morales 3-Hopkins 4-Toney 5-Mayorga leff 03-04-2005, 06:18 AM Vk and LB. legendary 03-04-2005, 07:15 AM Wright's got a solid chin i watched Harry Simon Hammer him and he didn't go down. Also Also DLH's always had a very sturdy chin hi pudgy body let him down tho. czars_salad 03-04-2005, 07:20 AM morales's chin will be tested on the 19th, until then i think he still has the best chin Slipx 03-04-2005, 09:18 AM corely's chin belongs at #2, with Wayne at #1. Soldier01 03-04-2005, 10:24 AM Hopkins has a great chin, Tito landed bombs and nothing happened Yo, You definitely need to see that fight again if you think Trinidad landed some good shots because he didn't do that through out the whole fight. If he did things might have ended differently. What fight did you see??? Hopkins is a good defensive fighter that does not let his opponent have his type of fight. AintGottaClue 03-04-2005, 10:29 AM VK cause he is a heavyweight bigdlb12 03-04-2005, 10:51 AM toney, mccall, tua nards chin isnt in their league i donw think pinaldino: tito didnt land flush on hops. even tho DLH was been down b4 on chin shots, he took some ot titos best punches flush :boxing: bigdlb12 03-04-2005, 10:54 AM even tho DLH was been down b4 on chin shots, he took some ot titos best punches flush :boxing: but I would say P4P Nard and VK WillieW 03-04-2005, 11:49 AM I gotta agree, Tszyu has a solid chin but he's been stunned in nearly every fight, even Leija and Mitchell did it. With Michell it was a headbunt that "stunned" him. Leija? I don't remember Leija landing anything that looked solid on KT. Leija came out strong and tried to smother KT, but nothing was very effective and KT didn't seem phased. With that said, I think KT has a good chin, but not the best in boxing. I would actually go with Vitali before KT. bangbangko 03-04-2005, 12:11 PM Gatti should be mentioned...Morales...Tyson...Mayorga...lots of good chins out there. BB brickhouse187 03-04-2005, 01:05 PM I would have to say the best chins in boxing are Hopkins, Mayorga, And Eastman. RwK 03-04-2005, 01:07 PM Mayorga Mayorga's chin is better than: Toney McCall Morales? I disagree. I think DLH and Mayorga are in a tie for their chin. :boxing: jedihillis 03-04-2005, 01:21 PM I think Vitali Klitschko has a pretty good chin. He took some big bombs from Corrie Sanders and stood standing. tonytucker 03-04-2005, 02:52 PM The best chin out there would possibly be someone that you hav'nt heard of before because the guys that you know about are only a fraction of the fighters boxing-you dig. Until someone can enforce a "lean back" on Oliver McCall, he should be said to have the best chin of known heavyweights. Later brother brologs. P.S I think this is the 1247th "Best Chin" thread that has been done. Slipx 03-05-2005, 03:31 PM Hopkins well you have to remember that Hopkins doesn't ever allow his chin to be tested, so it just seems he has a great chin, but the fact is, no real power punches ever hit him right on the chin. and when they do, he's moving his head back before the punch lands, so it cuts the power of the punch in half, if not more nu542 03-05-2005, 05:27 PM hands down Vitali Klistchko jack_the_rippuh 03-05-2005, 05:55 PM Gatti should be mentioned...Morales...Tyson...Mayorga...lots of good chins out there. BB Gatti should be mentioned? You're joking right? butatista 03-07-2005, 09:59 PM Mayorga does deserve a special mention for willingly getting nailed by Forrest - who`s a heavy puncher at that weight - then doing the exact same thing with Trinidad. McCullough also has an incredible chin and i cant remember him getting cuts! jack_the_rippuh 03-07-2005, 10:01 PM Mayorga does deserve a special mention for willingly getting nailed by Forrest - who`s a heavy puncher at that weight - then doing the exact same thing with Trinidad. McCullough also has an incredible chin and i cant remember him getting cuts! If you can see the punch coming, you can take it.. butatista 03-07-2005, 10:08 PM thats a good point dog. still wouldnt wanna test it myself. Mr-Jamil 03-07-2005, 10:14 PM I think Jeff Lacey's chin is slept on. he wears people down by taking punishment but his power alows him to penetrate and do damage. he'll take any punch to get his punch off. he also one the most in shape and hungry boxers in boxing Stickman 03-07-2005, 11:45 PM hands down Vitali Klistchko Yep, he's taken some real tactical nukes to the chin, from Lewis, Sanders and Williams, and never left his feet. Nobody else I can think of in the entire history of boxing could've taken those shots and remained upright. There have been some great beards in the sport, but I'm pretty sure Vitali Klitchko's going to go down in the Boxing HOF as having the only one built of stainless steel with a solid granite core. RwK 03-07-2005, 11:52 PM but I'm pretty sure Vitali Klitchko's going to go down in the Boxing HOF as having the only one built of stainless steel with a solid granite core. So far, it has been rock Solid. We will have to wait though, He has never faced a boxer puncher with the exception of Lewis. Kirk Johnson does not count; more along the lines of an A-class boxer puncher which is non-existent in the heavyweight division. His brother is the only one close, and they will never fight. Famoso Matador 03-07-2005, 11:57 PM I think Mayorga has a pretty good chin. Tito has hitting flush all fight when they fought and it took a while for it all to take effect. He also let Forrest just punch him and he took them well. Eastman has a pretty good chin, he was taking some pretty good hits by hopkins and he didnt drop...... tonytucker 03-08-2005, 02:58 PM Yep, he's taken some real tactical nukes to the chin, from Lewis, Sanders and Williams, and never left his feet. Are you crazy? He's not even in the same league as Mc Call. Sander's had him out on his feet. This is a joke,....a? Later brother brologs. Stickman 03-08-2005, 03:31 PM Are you crazy? He's not even in the same league as Mc Call. Sander's had him out on his feet. This is a joke,....a? Later brother brologs. Out on his feet? No, not that, but he did have him stunned for a few seconds. And if those left hands from Sanders didn't put him down, I honestly don't know what would. An overhand from Ike, maybe, or a straight shot from Shavers, but neither of those guys will ever be in the ring again. Sanders is probably the hardest puncher in boxing right now....that straight left is fast and wicked-powerful. Like Merchant said "There's nothing like it in boxing today". And Klitchko didn't take just one of those, he took several. And Lewis caught him flush at least half a dozen times, with the uppercut in 5, and the 1-2 combo in 3 being the nastiest, and neither of these did more than make Klitchko grab on for a few seconds until his head cleared. Anyway, no, I'm not joking. I'm not a Klitchko nut-hugger, but I know a solid ****ing chin when I see one, and Klitchko undoubtedly has the best chin in the business today, and possibly of all time......but only the time will tell as for the latter. RwK 03-08-2005, 03:37 PM undoubtedly has the best chin in the business today, and possibly of all time......but only the time will tell as for the latter. Look at the fighters Wanyne McCullough has fought. I understand that being hit by another heavyweight should be taken into consideration; however Vitali is a very large man, with a long reach. He has been tagged by some punches, but leans back and avoids flurries, while exchanging. McCullough is a human punching bag man. He (like Vitali) have never been knocked down, or out. I think the pocket rocket has fought the bigger P4P punchers in his career though. tonytucker 03-08-2005, 06:11 PM Out on his feet? No, not that, but he did have him stunned for a few seconds. The uppercut(the big one) was in the 6th round. Lewis was getting better and Vitally was getting worse. If that fight had continued I am very confident that vitally would have been sparked. Later brother brolog. bigdaddy 03-08-2005, 06:20 PM as much as i hate to say it holyfield has taken alot of good hits and he's always around at the end, he may not win but he always there. Colonel Jones 03-08-2005, 06:26 PM Would someone please explain to me the reason David Tua is on everyone's list of Great chins. Not that i doubt that it is great, (i've even heard experts refer to it as legendary) I just wasn't aware of any particular fight that he absorbed many punches. Yes I know he went the distance with Lennox, but I was hearing how great his chin was long before he fought Lewis. If anyones got anything to add I would appreciate it. psychopath 03-08-2005, 06:35 PM HAGLER and MAYORGA may not have the best chins but their names are both worth mentioning here. ;) Stickman 03-08-2005, 07:57 PM Both you guys have good points about McCall and McCullough. I hadn't thought about either of those guys in awhile, but yep, they both have taken huge punches (Notice that both of them have Scot names...like me ;) ). It'd be hard to pick at this point, especially if you overthink it, like I have a habit of doing. Let's wait a few years and see how Klitchko carries on from this point before we make any decisions about who we decide to put in the HOF for the biggest beard ;) Truth 03-08-2005, 08:03 PM Ricardo Mayorga took some wicked shots from Tito before going down, Mayorga's got a great chin. AintGottaClue 03-08-2005, 09:21 PM that uppercut in round 6 of vitali/lewis hurt me chin just watching it and the crowd sounded like he had killed him but vitali went on and beat up lewis that round, tnf1400 03-08-2005, 10:15 PM i think emanuel augustus has a very solid chin. tonytucker 03-09-2005, 01:58 AM Would someone please explain to me the reason David Tua is on everyone's list of Great chins.
