That's not really fair to Mayorga. He was well above the weight he should fight at, and took more than anyone else 160 or less could have taken. I'll give you the kidney.

Ricardo Mayorga has great chin , he took alot Tito shots (who is morderous puncher) and finaly goes down in the 8 by punch to the body. He fought in 160 first time in his career , I can't see anyone in 160 (including Hopkins)who was be able to took so many punches like Mayorga did

The fact that 'The Pocket Rocket' keeps getting mentioned (and deservedly so), and has been considered as posessing a good chin for a while now, is perhaps an indication that his toughness and heart may soon (if not already) become detrimental to his health. It's time to retire Wayne...

YOu should actually watch the Golota vs Tyson fight. In that fight Tyson landed possibly the hardest punch I have ever seen him land square on Golota's head. Golota got right back up from it and won the following round. Then he quit, which at the time seemed inexplicable. But he had a neck fracture or skull fracture or something. They even show Tyson's corner as Golota is walking off and Tyson says "I hurt him."

About the Lewis fight, lets see you take an injection of Vicadin straight into the veign or just swallow 4 vicadin then go out there and fight lennox Lewis.

What you refer to never happened, Tyson never landed any super firepower against Lewis in their fight. If he did Lewis would be out for the count. that is Lewis' weakness, he chin is not the best he has been taken out by one punch by both McCall and Rahman. I have seen the Tyson Lewis Fight, Tyson in that fight never landed any kind punch remotely resembling the punch he landed on Golota, like I said if he did Lewis would be sleeping in the hospital.

Against Tyson he took Tyson's best punch and got up from it in total coherency, he quit because that punch injured his skull and neck bones, against Bowe he knockdown but only by a barrage of something in the order of 15 or 20 over hand rights and uppercuts, and when Bowe knocked him down he got up and knocked Bowe down in the following round.

The worst chin goes to Roy Jones Jr. The best are Erik Morales, David Tua and Oscar. Oscar has never been knocked out from a hit to the chin and hes only fought the toughest fighters of all the boxers. Oscars chin is underated

Just a couple of questions to all of you.

1. How do you define "good chin":
a) The ability to take ANY good punch without ANY visible reaction?
b) The stunning/eye puffing/cuts/bone cracks are acceptable until the guy don't hit the canvas?
c) He can even hit the canvas from single (or even multiple) puch but stood up without noticeable change in the boxing game.

**************************************
If you accept only the point a) then I'm sure you not find any boxer who has a "good chin" :fingersx: .

*************************************
If you accept b) then you have to simply count only guys who were never doropped down. There is a few of them around (maybe Vitali K, Morales) ?

But you have to exclude Tyson (multiple KO's by single punch) :spank: , Golota (down by MULTIPLE combinations in Bowie & Grant, down by one punch by Tyson, KOed by Levis after multiple punching) :chairshot . You have to exclude also Ali because he smell the canvas (by Frazier), Foreman (KOed by Ali). Not mention Levis, Holmes (TKO by Tyson), Holyfield (multiple downs and TKOs), Packman, Jones, Toney been down in Jones fight. For me this is a little crazy, because this realy depend on who did you fought and what punches you have got. You cannot compare the oposition of DLH with oposition of Levis, Holyfield or Tyson
(in terms of punching or KO power).

***************************************
If you accept c) then Golota's downs with Bowie, Grant, Tyson do not count and Levis KO could be "justified" by a medical condition he was received before fight (being relaxed as a cow after injection).

While Tyson was down by Wiliams after the knee injury :nutkick: , then in Levis and Douglas he cannot by excused, so his chin is below Golotas. While Golota chin is way above Frazier, Tyson, Levis, he is below Ali, Holmes, Foreman. Maybe somehow comparable to Bowie (proved 2x) or Holyfield.
****************************************

2. I think you should realize that the "chin" is something you posses, while the punching power depend on the weight, speed and punch accuracy. For example Toney chin was very good before but he did not faced the good heavyweight boxers yet. After he moved up to HW, his power increased but his chin stayed preety the same, so his "good chin" will be verified very soon. As the second example you can see Wlad Klitchko, chis chin was excelent before he faced good puncher in Sanders, after that he become a classic "glass chin" example.

This also mean that one clear shot from heavyweight boxer is doing much bigger damage than one clear shot from middlewieght. That the power of Tyson and Foreman was increadible while Packman is just a small "joke". This mean you can find more "good chins" in the lower weights. Also Vitali Klitcho's chin could be much better than Morales counting the hard punches he received .

look golota might have a decent chin, he might even have an above average chin, but this thread is about who has the BEST chin and golota is nowhere near the top of the list, as i've said before McCall, tua, the journeyman marion wilson, larry donald, and many many more have a better chin than golota, and that's just the heavyweights

who can eat a flush push like Kassim Ouma? Did you see him against Jantuah?

Tyson fans are whackjobs. They compare everything to Tyson. Somehow his name is brought up in every thread.

The thread title could read:

"Erik Morales V.S. Manny Pacquiao 2"

first post:

Tyson K.O. 1

this is one of the funniest things i've read in a while, mostly because its true

The worst chin goes to Roy Jones Jr. The best are Erik Morales, David Tua and Oscar. Oscar has never been knocked out from a hit to the chin and hes only fought the toughest fighters of all the boxers. Oscars chin is underated

I COULD BE WRONG BUT DIDNT OSCAR GET FLOORED BY QUARTEY?

Nobody ate more big punches then Corrie Sanders without going down.

yep but oscar got up without wobbling, i think we have to clearly define a good chin, or glass jaw or what ever. If you take a clean shot flush on the jaw/temple going down is only natural. Now getting up on wobbly legs, stagering around the ring that'll let me know what kind of chin you have.

I don't think a good chin should be judged by "never been knocked down/out." This has more to do with overall boxing skills and not chin. I determine a good chin based on the amount of punishment a boxer can sustain to the head before he goes down. I've seen the following heavyweights take a serious beating before they went out, or not..

Wililams
Brewster
Sanders
Jirov
Tua
Toney - yet to be seen in heavyweight devision.

Tszyu, De La Hoya, Morales, Barrera, Pacquiao, Gatti - All have excellent chins!

He is another candidate for having one of the best chins in boxing. One of the resons why I say so: Is because of his fighting style. There is nothing secretive about how he tries to overwhelm fighters with punches. He does use lateral movement, but then again: He stands and trades alot. Look at some of the punchers he has faced:

Jantuah
Woods
Bojoroquez
Candelo
Hernandez (arguable)

Not necessarily all HARD punchers (except Jantuah) but mostly effective at landing and "Picking shots". He takes flush punches and does not even blink. He also gets hit as much as any fighter in his weight class with the exception of Teddy Reid.

I take back my statement that Golota has a top notch chin, but his chin is underrated. Top chins are Tyson,Tua,Jirov,Toney,Danny Williams, Corrie Sanders of South Africa. Vitali Klistchko has a pretty decent chin as well. Riddick Bowe.

I say Toney has the best chin because in his entire career he has never been seriously hurt in any fight and he has only been knocked down once and that was because he clowning againt Roy Jones and got caught off Balance while acting like a moron.

Morales is definitely in the uppr echelons of the best chins in the sport

That is one reason Toney has a chance to succeed at heavyweight his ability to take punches is ferocious and he is hard as hell to hit without getting hit back.

I don't like Toney one bit but I have to agree that aside from his great defense and counterpunching, his chin is topnotch.

In no particular order:

Oscar
Morrales
Margarito
Castillo
Ouma
Winky
Hopkins
Chi
Pac (although he has been KO'd)
Tzyu (same as above)
C. Sanders
Librado Andrade (not really been tested as of yet, but from what I have seen so far)
Arce

This is just in my opinion who I think should be included in the list.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Jeff Lacy yet...that guy has no defense - he doesn't care if you hit him, because it's not going to phase him
