Is there really a such thing as a fighter getting his chin destroyed? You know like a fighter who never got knocked down in his career goes into a fight with a heavy fisted fighter, gets knocked out, and continues his career only to get floored and KO'd by punches that wouldn't have even made him flinch before his first KO loss.

Supposedly the more you get knocked out the easier it is to happen a again...medically your chin supposedly degrades after each successive knockout. I don't know if this is a fact..since this is claim I heard from a famous football player saying his doctor told him this.

I think so. I think that happens to some fighters as they get older. They can't take the punches that they used to when they once wouldn't blink. Something similiar happened to Sugar Ray Robinson. He was getting knocked down by fighters that really weren't punchers. One fighter that reminds of that is Razor Ruddock.

Certainly holds true for Steve Young and all of his concussions..

It's definitely true. It's a scientific fact. That's one factor that comes into play about Roy's chin. Historically, it wasn't weak, but once he got older and a bit slower, he was caught with the perfect punch. I also think losing muscle mass might have affected his ability to take a punch.

This is very true superlightweight. Roy Jones` coming down from heavyweight to lightheavyweight certainly reduced his punch resistance. The lack of muscle and probably energy due to the depeltion of fluid probably was the reason Tarver and Johnson KO`d him. Like i said before, if Roy had stayed at heavyweight he would have prolonged his career.

That sounds like something that's accurate but I'm not a doc.

If yall watch football, remember at the end of Aikman's career...very prone to concussions. He had 12 in his career.

look at the great hector macho camacho , got caught with ONE left hook (i cant remember against who) , won the fight , but said that he was never gonna get hit like that again , and just started to pity pat and and stick and move , for the rest of his career.

fighters lose their ability to take a punch as they get older, not sure about losing it after getting KO'd unless it has to do with their confidence...

Tino....it was Edwin Rosario who clocked Camacho...Camacho never engaged in a war again after that punch such was the power and fright it gave him!

I think Tito Trinidad messed up Vargas' chin because after the trinidad fight he faught Wilfredo Vargas and went down on a weak ass punch. Next he fought DLH who also whooped his ass. Unless he fights weak opponents from now on he's going down.

Lewis' chin seemed to keep getting better as his career went on. That or his defense was getting better. Took Rock twice the time ot k.o. him in the first outage, as it did against mcoll.

I heard from other boxers that getting knocked out can really destroy your confidence and sometimes your never the same afterwards.

I actually think Quartey softened that chin up for Tito. Quartey was gassed & not mentally in the fight so he really couldn't follow-up.
