Mike Tyson planning a return to the ring

NEW YORK (Ticker) - Mike Tyson has vowed to relaunch his career despite a humiliating defeat against Britain's Danny Williams last summer.

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson, 38, claimed he will fight on June 20 in Washington against an opponent yet to be announced in what would be his first bout since being knocked out by Williams in the fourth round in Louisville.

Tyson announced his intentions during a television appearance in Italy.

"I'm getting back into a ring," Tyson said. "It will be in Washington, probably June 20."

Acting immigration minister Peter McGauran this week dashed Tyson's hopes of rebuilding his career in Australia, telling a radio station the fighter's past misdemeanors would make entry to into the country unlikely.

In addition to a rape conviction in 1992, Tyson bit a chunk out of Evander Holyfield's ear during a world title fight in 1997.

"We look at the nature and the seriousness of anybody's criminal conduct, we look at the protection of the Australian community and also what are community standards," McGauran said. "So even though he might have a cheer squad in Australia, that might be more than counter-balanced by the expectations of the Australian community that he be refused a visa."

Tyson has gone 50-5 with 44 knockouts in a career that began in 1985.

The same was said in 1996.

I think that he has no chance. He has wasted so much time in between fights that there is no way that he will get a title shot before he turns 40. He would really have to fight someone impressive in June and win impressively to get any kind of title shot or even fight a contender. I wonder who his opponent will be.

Yeah, It's pretty well known that he absolutely needs money.

Personally I think he could do very well in the heavyweight scene of today, but there is no way he is getting past Vitali. After going back and watching about 10 of his early fights around the time he took the Belt originally, it is apparent that he no longer has the movement required of a smaller guy to get inside. He simply tries to walk through punches and while he has a decent beard, it's not enough.

Why doesn't he apply for Roy Jones Jr.'s job at HBO?
I think he just loves fighting. I don't think it's only for the money.

He was good against Williams until he suffer knee twisting. So I think he will have a good chance to redeem himself in a short time. It would be huge if Tyson, Bowie, Golota win the titles and do unification (Holyfield not included this time).

I think he can still be a force in the division. Apart from Vital there is no one out there that I believe are capable of beating him, even though he is ling past his prime.

He needs to get into true fighting shape, and no more cutting corners, plus he has to come up with a different strategy if he fails to KO the guy in first few rounds

If tyson is serious about training this time and dosent **** off and smoke pot for a year after his comeback fight but instead stays buys and works his way up the ranks and gets rid of the rust, gets some stamina and fights with his old peek a boo style then he can beat anyone even vitali, but thats a big if for mike because he hasent trained for a long period time ever since rooney left him back in thats 17 years of slacking training and soft living , but if mike rediscovers his hunger for boxing and gets some way back to his old form he can beat anyone .

Another thing about Mike is that he never likes to look at his fights. Without the trainers who made him, how can he learn to go back to his old ways, if he doesn't want to look at how he use to do it?

He would problably facing another journey man for his comeback fight. If he screws it up this time, then he should retire forever!
