we have a bunch of mediocre to good(byrd) heavies that can compete around or near the #1 contender spot. (byrd is capable of being champ imo)

It seems that there are only 3 heavyweights out there AT THIS MOMENT that are worth talking about : Vitali Klitschko, Chris Byrd and Hasim Rahman. These are the top 3 guys in the division. All 3 of them have their question marks, all 3 have flaws, all 3 have their detractors. In the last 10 years, 2 guys come along from other countries and grab title belts at heavyweight, and all of a sudden Europe is dominating the heavyweights? I got 2 words for you: Frank Bruno.

somebody earlier said that nobody cares or wants to watch the lighterweights fight. I couldnt disagree more. I would much rather watch two middle weights or welterweights fight than to watch two heavyweights clinch hold and grab anytime they get close. In the lighter weights the fists are flying, where in the heavyweights they just do very little anymore.

As far as americans producing a heavyweight champion, ****, we've been the factory for basicaly the last 100 years. lennox had his time and he did well, props to him. You know, you could list americas heavyweight champions and put that list against the rest of the world and the u.s list wold be much greater. Williams would be in with a chance against all of those guys except VK and I'd have included Tua and Toney in my list. I agree he sucks but so do most of those guys.

Vitali can outbox you, but he is 6'7 and is able to impose his will on any fighter out there. Johnson looked very bad against Vitali because Johnson wasn't taking his training seriously enough. That really pissed me off about Johnson.

This will be the second time in a relatively short time span that I have agreed with Anarok.

If boxing does not have one undisputed American HW champion than its popularity will wain, like it has currently. It doesn't matter to me where the HW champion comes from, just as long as there is just one champion, but it matters to the idiotic, braindead, general, American sports fan. And yes I'm an American but its true. If its not baseball, football, or basketball American sports fans could care less.

For us true boxing fans, we don't need to see a great American HW, it would be nice, and I would root for him but its not vital.

However if we wanna attract more people to the sport, espcially young kids who may become interested in boxing if they see a great American HW fighter kicking ass, than yes it is important that boxing produce a great American HW.
