Benitez was the champion and took the fight like 2 weeks before it happen and put up one hell of a fight vs Leonard. Then Leonard never gave him a rematch even when Benitez asked for one and I remember also that he had plans to fight the winner of Benitez-Duran but after seeing Benitez give Duran a boxing lesson he decided not too fight him.

Did Leonard ducked Benitez?

The fight with Leonard was signed in early October 79, more than 6 weeks before they fought(11/30/79). Leonard then fought Duran twice in 80 and hearns in 81, which were bigger fights than a rematch with Benitez. Leonard's last fight before retiring with a detached retina was March, 82, two months after Benitez defeated Duran. In December, 82, Hearns defeated Benitez. Benitez was never a factor after that again

Well done............

Hagler was the only fighter Ray ducked, ergo he waited for him to slow down before he fought him. He also trained for 1 year for Hagler.

Benitez v Leonard was a very competitive fight yet Leonard was a clear winner and IMO he would have been the winner should any rematch have taken place

Yes,Ladies and gentleman,Marvin Hagler the only man who gets credit for having a man two divisions below him duck him

and people ask my why I criticise Marvin Hagler,by far the most overrated fighter of all time,Marvin Hagler,A reseme of blown up lightweights, welterweights and a poor era in general for middlweights
