Am planning on getting some of these, but am not sure if they are meant for heavy duty work on the bag? If anyone can comment I will gladly appreciate it and green k you. :)

Or are the classic hook and loop ones better?

I've heard Grants are very padded contrary to the style of other Mexican boxing gloves. Also aren't those for sparring? I'm sure you could use it for bag work as well but I hear sparring gloves break down faster on the bag. If you so spar with em you might wanna try the lace ups, I just got a pair of T*U Japanese Heat Seekers in lace ups and they are definitely more snug, will take a little bit to get used to though.

thx for replying man.

Ya the 1st ones are for sparring, but the lace up will always have stronger wrist support. Dunno yet, might go with the hook and loop, but I wanted to get everyone's opinion b4 I make my final decision.

Sparring Gloves for us are provided by the Coach himself, he has a box full of old ringside 16oz.

I will only use them for bag work, and mitts.

I keep hearing they are very good on the padding, but I just want to make sure.

Yeah thats what I hear about the padding, and from what I know a quality brand so you shouldn't have to worry too much. I also would like to know why sparring gloves usually come in lace up and hook and loop while bag gloves come in hook and loop and OCCASIONALLY lace ups lol, seems a bit weird.

The Grant Super bag gloves (the ones you posted as hook & loop) are 12 oz and the best gloves I've ever had. They didn't break down in 3 years of regular use & I had to retire them for something *I* did to them, not due to wear and tear.

The Training gloves are also some of the best gloves I've used, again they lasted around 3 years (although with less use) and I had to toss 'em after screwing 'em up with a bonehead move. I wouldn't worry about the training gloves breaking down right away - they take almost a month to break in, in the first place.

Both gloves ship real hard and get softer over time.
I didn't really notice a huge difference in the padding between the hook & loop & the training gloves to be honest - just that it was easier to open & close the palm with the training gloves.
The super bag gloves came real snug too, training gloves were 16oz so a bit more roomy.
Definitely have to wear wraps for every workout with the training gloves, i had space between my knuckles & the padding otherwise.

i'm still waiting on training gloves i ordered around 3 weeks ago - back-ordered.

One last question, when you JaB the bag, does it make that nice crisp snap noise? with either glove?

Because the ones I have currently don't, and I am throwing it properly, my coach looks at me while am training too.

The glove just doesnt make the sound though.

I want them for at least a year, I wont mind spending another 100-170 bucks next year for another pair if they brake down.

how did you mess them up if I may ask?

thx man. I honestly think that they can at last at least a year no?

My coach has a bunch of 16oz RS sparring gloves, he's getting a couple new ones next week, so I dont have to worry about using these in sparring.

The brand might as well be dead when you compare how they are making them these days compared to how they were originally made.

You can get the new ones on ebay for $75

nah man those are brand new. They are made the same exact way as the campeon gloves but the campeon ones have different colors and a lil bit more money for some reason.

Some guy at the gym got a pair of yellow 16 oz Casanovas and he only used them once. He's pretty big too; probably light heavy.

Yeah that's what billboxing on ebay told me

http://i39.tinypic.com/28sm3p3.jpg

These are yours, right? I wouldn't use those either. I'd just put em in a safe place on display somewhere.

If you notice, the cuffs on those, the ribbs are much fatter, kinda like how the reyes gloves today are. Now look the pics from mine, they are much thinner.

The same thing is with the Zepol brand. Zepol brand used to have the extra long cuffs like the grants and fat, but now the renamed 'boxing classics' cuffs look just like the new Casanovas.

So Zepol is over and Classics is what has come from it?

Are casanovas still "illegal" because of the thumb? Or have they updated the styling?

Yeah Zepol became boxing classics and Casanova still doesn't have the attached thumb. If you can find one that fits, the thumb during sparring shouldn't be too much of an issue. You would need to have realy strong thumbs to be able to poke someone in the eye with them.

Alright thanks for the info man. Could you tell me if this is a complete list of decently-known mexi glove brands (I'm sure there are many lesser known ones in mexico).

Grant
Cleto Reyes
Morales
Boxing Classics
Casnaova (Limited)

Dead:
Flores
Palomares
Spartan?

I don't know much about Spartan or Palomares.

You know what, the Pro-Mex gloves are real nice gloves. I tried them on and they felt good. I have no idea why those geniuses at Title even marketed them as a cheaper version of Reyes gloves. All that does is give the gloves the stigma that they are cheap knock offs. If they would just have come out with them and not made the comparisons, they wouldn't automatically have a bad rap without some users actually trying them on.

Flores was never a Mexican glove. They are California gloves and always been made in the USA!!

Never tried on some grants, but everyone at the gym seems to like them. Pork chop goes bannanas over his. Probably gonna be my next pair once my current gloves become unusable.

Morales are made in Mexico? Never had the chance to see them in person or try them on.

The guy in charge of my gym has like a closet full of old stinky mexican gloves. I should ask him if I can take a pic of them before I move back to Cali. I'll post them up once I have them.

Ahh maybe I should've said mexican style? Same thing went on with the Fighting gloves Title made, automatic comparisons to Wining for obvious reasons.

Edit: Actually I think I meant Mexican-made gloves when I made that list. I've seen Flores labeled as Mexi gloves so idk. Morales bears the tag Hecho en Mexico, so I assume so.

Yeah I think people automatically assume they are Mexican from the name but they are, or were, more of an old school glove than a 'Mexican' type glove. Funny thing is, the old time Reyes gloves, when they used to be labeled 'Seyer' looked the same way along with all the other gloves back then.

Also, did you know Zepol is actually 'Lopez'? They just did it backwards the same way with the Seyer-Reyes thing. Crazy Messicans:beerchug:

I can't wait to see how those pics turn out.

sweet, I really do need some good gloves, they are small and long, but weak. Plus my 3 last fingers on my right hand are hurting from using the RS gloves.

The Grant Pro Puch Bag gloves are very comfortable and the wrist and knuckle protection are great but they are not as comfortable as the Winning. They are hard but once you break them in, they are worth it. Also, the Grant's don't have an inside lining that will help reduce moisture.
