Don't be so quick to think that size or being a "pro wrestler" makes you a certainty to win a fight.

The Rock and Vin Diesel both choreograph all of their moves. Diesel actually has some acting chops, has performed Shakespeare, and written screenplays. It's a shame Fast and the Furious and XXX made it so fans will only accept him in ****ty action movies.

I remember when Bill Goldberg first merged into the WWE locker room and had a lot of heat for all of his comments when he was in WCW and afterwards, and he picked a fight with the 5'8" Chris Jericho, who probably just weighs over 200. Thing is, Jericho trained in the dungeon with Stu Hart. When Goldberg put a hand on him he did what anyone truly trained in fighting would do - he put the big ass "Who's Next?" unstoppable wrestler face down onto the ground with a submission hold for all the boys to watch backstage. Kind of a wake-up call for "da Man"

The Rock played football and his dad was a wrestler, so his athleticism and background led to his gimmick. That doesn't mean he can fight.

Some past/present WWE wrestlers I'd be way more scared of than The Rock if I pissed them off: Saturn, Shamrock, Jericho, Benoit, Bret & Owen Hart, Bob Holly, Angle & Lesnar (legitimate wrestling skills)

And WCW's Tank Abbott and ECW's New Jack

Tougher one to call I think.

Vin Deisel was a bouncer at supposedly some big time clubs in New York. That means he can pretty much handle any body.

"The Rock" is much bigger and has some well trained fighting ability.

I think it would be close but I'm gonna go with "The Rock" here.

The Rock by a longshot. The Rock is an athlete, Vin Diesel is an actor.

Vin Diesel trains in MMA/Brazilian JuJitsu and has trained with Ricco Rodriguez and by the looks of the rock in The new Details mag. Vin is just as big or bigger now. I would vote on Vin, to bad niether could ever become a Pro Fighter. I think they are both good actors and their movies are entertaining so I really don't care who would win in a fight but Vin would be my guess.

Come on anybody saying anything other than the Rock is insane. Vin Diesel hangs out with that ***** Ja Rule too, and takes it up the ass from him, or gives it, who cares, but yeah. Vin Diesel is a ***, I can't stand him.

Also, I think in the long run, the Rock has a real shot at having a more successful career than Vin Diesel. From what I've read, Vin Diesel tends to be an ******* behind the scenes. The Rock is much more humble and definitely not an ass.

**** vin diesel, he's nothing but another action *** on the same level as a Steven Seagal or Jean Claude

Surely a film student knows better than that. Call him a sellout, that's fair. But Diesel's acting resume is legit and so is his screenwriting and directing...

http://imdb.com/title/tt0149171/combined

I haven't seen this titles, but apparently Spielberg did, which led him to cast VD in Saving Private Ryan.

From his imdb biography:

Vin Diesel was raised by his astrologer/psychologist mother and adoptive father in an artist's housing project in New York's Greenwich Village, never knowing his biological father. His first break in acting happened by chance, when at the age of seven he and his friends broke into a theatre to vandalize it. A woman stopped them and offered them each a script and $20, on the condition that they would attend everyday after school. From there, Vin's fledgling career progressed from the New York repertory company run by his father, to the Off-Off-Broadway circuit. At 17 and already sporting a well-honed physique, he became a bouncer at some of New York's hippest clubs to earn himself some extra cash. It was at this time that he changed his name to 'Vin Diesel'.

Following high school, Vin enrolled as an English major at Hunter College, but dropped out after three years to go to Hollywood to further his acting career. Being an experienced theatre actor did not make any impression in Hollywood and after a year of struggling to make his mark, he returned to New York. His mother then gave him a book called "Feature Films at Used Car Prices" by 'Rick Schmidt'. The book showed him that he could take control of his career and make his own movies. He wrote a short film based on his own experiences as an actor, called Multi-Facial, which was shot in less than three days at a cost of $3,000. Multi-Facial was eventually accepted for the 1995 Cannes Film Festival where it got a tumultuous reception.

Afterwards, Vin returned to Los Angeles and raised almost $50,000 through telemarketing to fund the making of his first feature, Strays. Six months after shooting, the film was accepted for the 1997 Sundance Film Festival, and although it received a good reception, it didn't sell as well as hoped. Yet again Vin returned disappointed to New York only to receive a dream phone call. Steven Spielberg was impressed by Multi-Facial and wanted to meet Vin, leading him to be cast in Saving Private Ryan. Multi-Facial earned Vin more work, when the director of The Iron Giant saw it and decided to cast Vin in the title role. From there, Vin's career has steadily grown, with him securing his first lead role as 'Richard B Riddick' in the sci-fi film Pitch Black. That role has earned him a legion of devoted fans and the public recognition he deserves.

And as far as successful careers, The Rock's only films to open higher than 'The Pacifier' were part of an already established 'Mummy' franchise. None of his rwo starring titles (The Rundown, Walking Tall) have opened up to more than 19 million on the opening weekend. Diesel has three titles to eclipse that, and his return to either the 'Fast and the Furious' or 'XXX' 3 will undoubtedly result in a ****e in box office from the first sequels (XXX2 is due this year). It has also been announced that Vin will direct and produce a title in 2006 (http://imdb.com/title/tt0382731/combined)

Apparently, mainstream audiences prefer Vin to The Rock, though Johnson taking the 'Be Cool' role suggests he's interested in learning how to legitimately act, not just headline moderate budget action films...

I just think Rock has TONS more charisma overall and in the long run he'll have more success.

Ben Affleck also co-wrote Good Will Hunting and won an oscar for it. Go figure. Affleck definitely isn't all that talented of an actor.

What movies would you point to in which you would say Vin gave good acting performances? He seems pretty much identical in everything to me.

Don't get me wrong, I've yet to see the Rock pulling off Marlon Brando like performances either.

Yeah of course Vin has had more success than the Rock so far. He definitely should have since he made his break in film. The Rock has a much harder road because he already has a huge negative stigma from being a cross over star. Combine that with the fact that what he is crossing over from is wrestling, and you've got a ****ing huge mountain to climb.

The "flourishing" movie careers of Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper are only going to hurt the Rock (even though I personally liked "They Live" with Roddy Piper).

Maybe Vin will surprise me one day and actually impress me. If so, I'll admit I was wrong. I used to ****ing hate Michael Rapaport, Brad Pitt, and George Clooney. I like them all now. No, I don't like Clooney and Pitt because of Ocean's Eleven or Twelve. Didn't see either one yet.

How is that Carnivale show? It looks interesting to me. Looks weird as hell. Makes me think of David Lynch type stuff. I'll add it to my netflix queue.

They Live ruled.

Start watching Carnivale from Season One, Episode 1. It definitely has a Lynchian feel to it.

I think Diesel has legitimate acting chops; I'm not sure about The Rock. They are both in a different galaxy from Schwarzenegger.

I liked Vin in Boiler Room and Fast and the Furious both. I can't see The Rock in a dramatic film right now; I doubt audiences would buy it either. But I guess Knockaround Guys and A Man Apart didn't do big business either...
