View Full Version : Better way to drop weight- Skipping vs Running? RightCross94 08-23-2009, 06:26 AM Which is better for dropping weight and which is more draining do you find? lanzarote 08-23-2009, 08:17 AM I am curious is that fu**ed up picture of the dude with blue hair you in yer siggy? :) Just started the skipping in my gym so dont know. Runs loads & love that lost loads of weight. But i guess any kinda exercise that gets yer heart pumping is gonna turn fat people thinner no? YoungJab 08-23-2009, 09:58 AM i'd say running but depends on the pace ur going Danster0507 08-23-2009, 10:58 AM i'd say running but depends on the pace ur going bingo depends what pace ur going. I find if u incorporate sprints in ur skipping eg 2 mins steady skipping pace, 30 sec sprint skip for about 20 minutes this is a lot better for losing weight and a lot more draining than just running a set distance as it uses more of ur muscles both arms and legs. Skipping is brilliant for losing weight and toning provided you go about it in the right way Big Idiot 08-23-2009, 11:14 AM i would say both things are same good to drop weight, because the difference is that you jump instead of run, so at the end you have the same result, just choose that what you have more fun with. i like jumping the rope more then i have also the rhythm for dancin' in the ring and every once in a while you can also run a bit with the rope. so at the end the intensity is the important thing when you want lose weight paece, big idiot Squirrel 08-23-2009, 12:35 PM Skipping is more demanding on the body (using more calories) but is worse for your joints (not too much of an issue for a young fit person). Sprint training is king for quick fat loss though. Marlin26 08-23-2009, 01:39 PM why not just do both? im sure together they are the most effective way to lose fat other than fixing your diet Joachim 08-24-2009, 11:05 PM I do both at the same time to be honest. It sounds really dumb and probably counter productive. But i live across the street from a huge cemetary and i jog there and bring my rope. Ill do laps and incorperate Spinting on and off. then when im not doing hills i bust out the rope. I also incorporate sprints with the rope too. I have been stuck at 10% body fat for a while but im slowly inching my way down to 8. jumping rope is more entertaining than running long distance so i usually have more motivation to do it longer GroundSt.Pound 08-24-2009, 11:10 PM How about cleaning up your diet. RightCross94 08-25-2009, 02:17 AM I do do both. I'm losing weight for a tourny on saturday, and i've been eating little and doing lots of skipping and running. I was just pondering which is better. GroundSt.Pound 08-25-2009, 02:59 AM Well being you are already on a calorie defecit diet, i'd go with light jogging or swimming. It's low impact and unlike Sprinting or Skipping won't completely drain you and wear you out. hugh grant 09-01-2010, 08:00 PM Skipping is more demanding on the body (using more calories) but is worse for your joints (not too much of an issue for a young fit person). Its just something people used to believe in, but not now. But of course im wrong i think. Timothy Horton 09-02-2010, 11:35 PM Im taking up skipping now. I dont like to hear its bad for my joints as they feel bad already. But i keep thinking people dont skip nowadays. Its just something people used to believe in, but not now. But of course im wrong i think.i skip during all my intervals whether it be running or jogging - at least nine rounds a day. combined you'll torch calories. hugh grant 09-06-2010, 05:23 AM ^^^^ do you think it is ok to use this mat as a skipping mat to protect my knees and shins and ankles? http://www.sportsdirect.com/lonsdale-fitness-mat-764001 I dont think it is specifically designed for it, but what does everyone think? pacquiao-king 09-06-2010, 11:12 AM IMO its not skipping or running. It's a matter of how intense and efficient you are at the movement. Most people would prefer running however since they've probbably did it most in their life. |
