View Full Version : Roberto Duran vs. Aaron Pryor at 140: How would it go? The Bay Bomber 08-22-2009, 02:35 PM thoughts??????????????????????????????????? Nick Fury 08-22-2009, 02:54 PM I think Duran wins in a war. Pryor was fantastic, but he would leave himself open for counters when he would swarm his opponents. Might be a TKO in the 11th, but pryor had a granite chin sooooo Ud Duran! GJC 08-22-2009, 03:20 PM With hindsight it is a suprise that Duran never challenged for a version of the title at this weight as I would have thought it would be a nice weight for him late 70's early 80's. Not withstanding his ill discipline between fights of course. Re the question I would strongly favour a prime Duran against a prime Pryor. mickey malone 08-22-2009, 04:48 PM It's very difficult to find a better lightweight than Duran.. I think the posters who have already commented have the outcome about right.. The Bay Bomber 08-23-2009, 04:30 AM would have definitely been a WAR boxingbuff 08-24-2009, 04:25 PM Yes it would have been a WAR and a great fight. I believe Duran's defense and ability to slip punches would be the difference in the fight. I believe both fighters would be confident and come ready to destroy the other. But Duran would stand up to Pryor's wirlwind opening round and his flurries during the fight, talking to Pryor asking him is that all you have? His agression would be more bridled, slipping punches and countering Pryor.I see Duran slowly wearing him down and stopping him in the late rounds. I believe it would be a close hard fought fight, that would probably be an all-time great fight! bojangles1987 08-24-2009, 04:30 PM Would be one of the greatest fights ever. I'd go Duran by very close decision or late stoppage. Pryor didn't have the power to stop Duran in his tracks while Duran would have the power to make Pryor stop and think. That would be the difference. PED User 08-24-2009, 07:10 PM Duran. Exciting fight, but Duran was simply the superior, more polished fighter. hookoutofhell 08-24-2009, 08:14 PM duran imo is the better all round fighter and i see him stopping pryor late on or edging out a close decision. i think duran would do alot of body work that would pay dividends later on in the fight, i think he would slow pryor down and then take control from round 9 onwards. i think durans ability to slip and roll with punches would also mean that he is able to prevent pryor from catching him flush p.s. would be a great fight though DeepSleep 08-25-2009, 09:20 PM I don't think either fighter has enough power to break through the granite chins that both fighters have. Duran is a very underrated defensive fighter and he would exploit Pryor's defense throughout a decisive 12 round war. Steak 08-25-2009, 09:25 PM Pryor is almost made for Duran...liked to fight, come foward and throw punches nonstop. Duran eats that up with his countering ability and natural infighting skill, and his defensive ability and durability would nullify Pryor's offensive capabilities. I dont see Pryor doing that much better than Davey Moore did, to be honest. Pryor just left himself open too much. BOLLOCKS 08-25-2009, 09:26 PM Duran sparks him out. Silencers 08-25-2009, 11:51 PM This would've been a war but I think a prime Duran would take this, Pryor just got too sloppy for a guy like Duran. Dynamite Kid 08-26-2009, 07:05 AM I mean how you gonna go toe to toe with the arguably the best inside fighter of all time ? a guy who is an extremely strong fighter physically. Pryor was also pretty wild at time with his rushes, his chin goes up when he starts punching. What Pryor does do well when he attacks is, he attacks from angles and steps around you when he gets close to you, he very rarely stays infront of you when on the inside, he switches the angle and that could give Duran trouble countering when Pryor comes inside but id still pick Duran. mrboxer 08-26-2009, 10:05 AM pryors windmill style would be to much for duran, duran went down like a tree when he got clobbered against hearns, and pryor beat hearns in the amateurs, pryor wins this fight by a kayo before the third round:boxing: Stoppage 08-26-2009, 11:28 AM I see Pryor winning by decision. sonnyboyx2 08-26-2009, 01:52 PM this would be a brilliant fight and who would win i just could not say The Bay Bomber 08-26-2009, 05:04 PM Looks like Duran by a landslide talip bin osman 08-26-2009, 05:49 PM esteban de jesus & ken buchanan beats mr. pryor IMHO... |
