I never understand fighters who have these stupid 4am routines.
Why doesn't he get up at 7 and go to bed at 11?

It's a mental thing honestly. Tyson did it. Gives you that extra boost in confidence when knowing that your opponent is at home sleeping while you are working.
You guys should try it. I used to do it for like a month. Stopped after that.
Too cold and dangerous where I live. Plus the sleeping early thing.
Just make sure that you wear cotton hand gloves to protect your hands from getting numb when you finish your miles. It's that cold at 4am in most parts. Trust me.:afro:

Less Traffic on the street at 4AM
7AM is the start of the going to work traffic .......
That's why I always ran early 5AM, no traffic or friendlys to get in my way.

I get that reasoning, but it still doesnt make sense. I mean, if youre in a high level, big fight, then youre gonna end up fighting at night...sometimes as late as 12 at night.
personally, I would probably train sometime around that time just to be accustomed to it.
...then again, Im not an ATG boxer.
I think Mayweather does it that way, doesnt he?
shyboirank#1 09-24-2009, 09:37 PM boots .... havent heard that one but how wouldnt your feet hurt ?

Because some people are early birds.

Supposed to just work out your legs more because you're carrying extra weight.
*2TOUGH* 09-25-2009, 03:34 AM I think the whole running at 4am in army boots in NOT practical at all. Firstly if i didnt have the mental toughness then i wouldnt be training. And secondly running in my trainers would get me better times, better fitness and i wont get injuryed easily. I think 5 miles i maybe just about right. BUT everyday? i think thats a no no
Sgt. Pain 09-25-2009, 08:13 AM it takes a lot discpline to wake up at 4 a.m. ... i tried it but then you are sleepy when you got to work or to school

lots of fighters do it. floyd sr had hatton do it, floyd jr does it but not every time. its good, cuz it improves your footwork also in addition to stamina. just like when u use handweights your feet in this case get much quicker.
as for all the ppl questioning running in the morning, most fighters do it acctually. its a mental thing like someone said already. being out there running when your oponent is asleep. and also pulling your ass of the canvas when your down knowing all the hard work u put in to get there. your not gonna lose after going thru hell.
tyson 09-25-2009, 06:12 PM More than being a mental thing, it's a sleep-related thing.
If you run at 5am and goes back to sleep at 6.30am, you can go to the gym at noon, go home and do your thing, and then do technique/studies in the evening.
It's about managing your day as efficiently as possible as well as making sure you get enough rest between sessions.
shogunn 09-27-2009, 11:23 PM wouldnt getting up at 4am and sleeping at 7pm possibly hurt later on?
Considering prime time fights are at around 7pm. Youre body could be used to being a sleep at that time, thus being not as primed during the fight.
What if you wake up at 4am every morning and you live on the east coast. That would be a 10pm fight time if you fight in Vegas. And in your regular schedule, youd normally be 2-3 hours into your sleep.
I dont understand the mentality thing either. What if you train late? your opponent is already sleeping at 8pm, while your training at 10pm. Who's advantage would that go to?
I think training should peak at the time your going to fight at. If your training at 7pm, and your fight is going to be at 7pm, then your body and mind will be in the best shape possible for the fight.
Look into NFL teams traveling into the east coast. The records are alot worse comapred to the east. Playing a game at 1pm on teh east coast is similiar to playing 10am on the west coast. The mind and body are on two different schedules.
