View Full Version : Pound4Pound86 decline from boxing
julDilla 11-20-2004, 03:17 PM i went to the doctors on friday, to get some clearance on some fight, as i went to check my self, they were checking my eyes etc. while i was there i got my flu shot : ) (sorry cant click on smily i'll tell u why in a second) when i was checking my blood pressure the nurse didnt say anything, she said let me check your other arm, than she told me it was a lil high, so she told me to relax and i went to a room, they kept checking me and checking me, i went at 1PM i got out of the clinic at 3:30PM at the end my blood pressure was still a lil higher, the doctor made a deal out of it, cuz im 5'8 144 and im only 18 years old, that it was to high for my age, so she wouldnt get me the clearance to get inside the ring and now i have a heart doctors appointment on DEC. 1 and if i miss it i cant get one till march, since its so booked, so now im not allowed to get back on the ring, and have to go check with a doctor a HEART doctor(that ***** got me scared) for my blood pressure, i wouldnt say its a big deal since i didnt get no pills subscribed, or does the heart doctor give me those? i think im going to take a break from boxing and try and relax, ***** im gonna check the phone book to see if theres any yogas classes around redwood. im even madder cuz i just bought some new shoes and a new mouthpice, but now im declined from boxing, wow i dedicated my life to boxing

I hate to hear that....the heart doc. will hopefully get you all figured out and back in the ring in no time. Just proper med., stress management and maybe even diet?? and you'll be good as new. Enjoy the break! It may be awhile before you get another once you get back to boxing ;)

.......It probably has nothing to do with stress and is purely hereditary. I'm betting it runs in your family. Are you a black guy by the way? I know that blacks have more problems with the blood related issues. All of my brothers are high strung but none of us have ever had problems with high blood pressure. I think it's more of a family thing than a stress thing. Medication will get you straight and everything will work out.

how long does it take to get into fighting shape?
nah i wished i had those years but i had to quit, cuz my grandma banned me from it, than i started H.S. and thats when parties that include drugs and liquior where it hit me, i was doing soccer, but than quit to get back at the gym cuz i thought i was getting out of shape
street fighting is very different from boxing, STAMINA if your not used to the ring, your going to get tired and get KTFO, but after the proper training you'll be able to sparr to see where you at, but in the amateurs you'll be doing 3 rounds with 2 minutes each, the bums at get with are guys who just know how to come forward and backwards, so you'll neeed to do a couple of sprints cuz thats amateur, to later on not regret your performance, wishing you had thrown more punches, the other difference its the arms, in the begginning they will get tired to quick so you'll need to train that, in the end of the night i cant feel them cuz they feel to heavy

its probably nothin if you are in shape. you should go to antoher doc for a second opinion because sometimes doctors are careless.
Impala70 11-20-2004, 08:10 PM It's probaly nothing man, just don't stress watch what you eat, drink lots and lots of water you young bucks can party all night and fight all day, but your body will let you down if you do the above-mentioned no matter how old you are. 8 hours sleep. Try yoga.
elveiel 11-21-2004, 07:39 AM I really hope your ok p4p!!
I had a high blood pressure result at 18, i was at the doctors and the nurse said it was high for my age!! i was shocked but i just used it to chat her up, saying high blood pressure was because she was fine!!
My blood pressures perfect now, i'm sure the specalist will just take your blood pressure, maybe do a couple of other checks and if its still high they will probably give you some lifestyle advice.
Its very unlikely you will have a major problem at your age, its likely they will say boxing is good for your fitness = good for your heart.
JOM'S 11-21-2004, 07:46 AM your young, into a lot of sports, maybe its nothing, just relax seat back & enjoy what life has to offer, dont worry to much, hope you get your clearance soon...
jack_the_rippuh 11-21-2004, 09:55 AM You better keep a positive attitude as well. Believe it or not, that kind of thing can affect your physical health..
