View Full Version : Morales running 7 miles + Victor Polo to spar with Erik.
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 02-27-2005, 10:42 PM 02/27/05 Esto
The news emerged yesterday in Erik "El Terrible" Morales's camp: Colombian Victor Polo chose to train at the Otomi Ceremonial Center to prepare for his fight against Mexican, Juan Manuel Marquez. For that he got in contact with Morales with who he will train.
"El Terrible" didnt put forth any objections for which Polo is Expected Monday at the Otomi to begin his work sparring with Erik.
"For us Victor Polo will be excelent help because he is a southpaw just like pacquiao", expressed Jose Morales, Father and trainer of Erik Morales.
Polo just came from a draw against Scottish Scott Harrison who he fought for the WBO Crown in his home town.
"Its always better to train with boxers of high rankings like Victor Polo. The experience and quality of the top ranked fighters of the world are great help in the work sessions," Commented Jose Morales.
Jose Morales informed us that Erik and his team will travel directly to Las Vegas March 14th. (no trip to Tijuana = Longer training at 12,000 feet)
Morales continued to work yesterday by sparring 7 rounds with his sparring partners. The fighters weathering the Tijuanan's bombs in the gym are Mauro Gutierrez from los Mochis, Venezuelan Alirio Rivero, and Fernando "Wary" Beltran
Jose Morales said he was satisfied with Eriks work so far. Besides being well hydrated, in the mornings he is running 11 kilometers (nearly 7 miles) and is finishing strong and fresh.
"Erik is running 11 kilometers everyday, he does it in an hour and 15 minutes. I am very satisfied with the fact that he is already in excelent physical shape, and that is reflected in that previous trainings for other fights at 45 mins (of running) he was already showing signs of being tired, now at one hour and 15 minutes he is strong and without prblems", said Mr. Morales (Erik's father)
Besides Erik, also training at the Otomi other stars like Rodrigo Juarez, Isaac Bustos, and Jose Antonio Aguirre. In the close town of Temoaya also train Jose Luis Castillo and Jorge Arce.
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 02-27-2005, 10:43 PM This fight is gonna be good.
jpboxer3 02-27-2005, 10:49 PM Nice piece of information.
Polo will always be the fighter that managed to lose to Derrick "Punked out by JMM" Gainer to me....LMFAO!
Excellent news.
Before the pachuggers enter, and say how Manny runs 30k a day.....
let me just say this. Morales is the natural 130 pounder, who has a decent jab and uppercut. His chin has NEVER been suspect, and the same cannot be said for Manny. Stamina is the only "percieved" problem for Morales in this fight, and it seems to be his area of focus. Pacman is a great fighter, who is going to attempt a knockout. He is going to get caught in the process, like he did against JMM, except this time he is finished. Morales will piece together combinations, and make the fight a war.
If you ladies and gentlemen have noticed, Morales was the agressor in ALL three fights with Barerra, as well as everyone he has ever faced.
Pacman looks great as a southpaw who attacks defensive fighters.

JMM
not "el terrible". he is an Offensive minded fighter, who can punch.

You're wrong. It's gonna be great. Three weeks to go.

At last some news from the morales camp!!! nice post ultimate... so i guess conditioning is not a factor anymore for both fighers, less than three weeks before the Fight of the Year!!! LOL...

yeah right, considering barrera much as a defensive fighter... he was the one attacking erik and naseem so don't tell me erik is an offensive figter... you're ruining a good post dude...
joeboxer 02-27-2005, 11:12 PM "ya but manny has been knocking out all his sparring partners, they can't find anyone to spar with him, blah blah blah, he is the best fighter from puerto rico ever, blah blah blah." - M.P. nuthugger
what lol most of the shots barrera landed were counters erik was pushing the whole fight.
julDilla 02-27-2005, 11:16 PM seems like both fighters training is going as planned. this will be great fight i like to see how Morales will handle Pacquiao speed and that mean left hand, but lets not forget power aint everything look at what Hopkins do to them, i hope Morales finds a way to neutrilize(sp?) his power

I have those fights and have watched them.
Barrera does alot of circling, and Erik Chases him.
OH, and BTW.
Barrera started off defensive against Prince. however; he landed flush shots and got him in trouble. He is a smart fighter, and like ALL fighters do, they go for the finish. He then proceeded to chase Hamed around.
Chris Byrd chased Oquendo around in the last 4 rounds of their fight, and I recall Larry Merchant saying:
Chris Byrd is looking like Joe Frazier!
Chris Byrd is not an Offensive fighter.
If you watch the pauly ayala, tapia, or any Barrera fights...
you will see this.
im pretty sure you havent watched them.

You and I might be the ONLY people who actually watched these fights dude.

Barrera can be as effective as a DEFENSIVE fighter just as well as being an OFFENSIVE fighter. He was quicker on the trigger and Morales couln't do much when Barrera gets off first. EM had to wait for MAB to back off a bit and take a breather before he started getting himself back into the fight. SPEED actually beat him but we'll see how he adapts.

He was the agressor in the Poison Jones fights.
I will say that.
he still is a Defensive minded fighter in my opinion.
He is a tactician. I never meant to discredit MAB.
He is an excellent counterpuncher; who can crack. He will get
into temporary exchanges....but then he backs out. This in part
due to him being a slicker fighter than most give him credit for.
It's rare that you see him close the gap like Erik Does.
Thats all I meant.
m00ks 02-27-2005, 11:48 PM Something I don't get Victor Polo is 5'9   Why would he want to spar with a taller guy>

I do agree with your assesment of him. I was just saying that if he wanted to be aggressive he can be just as dangerous. "It's been proven like toilet paper".

hell yes he can.
he is extremely explosive, and when he gets someone hurt, he tries
to finish it.

This is like Hagler/Hearns at a lower weight division.

I think it is going to end quick though.
Someone is bound to get caught. Morales has a good chin but has
never faced a puncher like Pacman. Manny has never fought an
opponent like Morales. We all know MAB can take a shot.
Barerra did get knocked out by Pacman.
Yet in the first Barrera/Morales fight, Erik landed some Flush
punches that I would say rival Pacman's hardest shots. Im not
saying Morales is as big a puncher, he hits pretty damn hard
though.

ah man. I think it'll seriously take more than one to put Erik down. But we'll see. He's hittable at least.

Ah man, that's why I dunno if I should order it or watch it at the local bar. Crowd's gonna be insane and the crowd counts a lot in a fight. Lots of filipinos and mexicans in the area
Shaolin Bushido 02-28-2005, 01:01 AM One things for sure ... They'll be no mugging of Morales by Pacquiao like he did Barrera, that's a no brainer.
Can't wait for this fight.

I totally agree. He is not going to be able to simply impose his will on Morales. this I truly believe.

Both hit hard. But when you combine power with speed well then you got something deadly. It IS a matter of imposing your will just like you guys said. Barrea imposed his, I don't see why Pac can't.
You and I might be the ONLY people who actually watched these fights dude.
I have never not seen morales not busy. The reason I admire him so much. Always fighting and is a warrior about it.

One thing by looking at your sig:
Pac is not "much" smaller than Morales.
:dunno:

Me it's his accuracy. Pin-point accuracy. It's insane.
WOW. Both have the ability to end each other. WOW Im a morales fan but Im not taking anything from pacman but I think he has the speed over Morales but WOW lol i dont know what to say.
I like the fact that Morales did this fight for his fans as they said on hbo after the barrera fight he looked for the biggest fight he could possibly find so could to earn his fans back he never lost me but that **** says a lot he aint not *****.
**EDIT**
JOM'S 02-28-2005, 01:19 AM EM is in great shape, PAC is in great shape, almost can't wait for March 19, having goose bumps just thinking about the fight ...

He tore house on Wayne Mcullough. That is for sure.

I know. I was like WTF, there are a lot of other profitable matchups at 126-130 but this is pretty ****ing intense. Prolly THEE toughest fight out there. And that's what separates him from everyone else. It took him 2 weeks to get a superfight signed. ****ing warrior!

Yup! Anyone that disrespects morales is a peice of **** this guy's the most active boxer I think on HBO I love this guy and hes not old so Probably lots more fights to come too. **** I rather rep this Morales than any other mexican fighter that I have ever heard of and I always will. I think its crazy I have never had any kind of boxing dreams lol but for some reason ever since I heard about this I have had 3 dreams my favorite morales winning by KO Right hook to mannys jaw in the 3rd round. Dont take this personal pac fans just sharing my dream

lol none taken. But nah, you can't disrespect a fighter like Morales. I don't like his attitude but the man has balls and teh skillz to back it up.
You know what if manny had a weakness it IS the right hook. So that's crazy  Still, I'm hoping Pac would land his left before EM's right.

It's Crazy though cause pacman never gets tired of throwing them lefts. My dreams crazy and I hope it comes true for me that way Morales can get another hsot at barrera(3rd fight) he started really slow in that fight I was kind pissed almost caught up but was to late thats boxing though that's what its all about you never know untill you step into the ring and find out morales wants the best all the time and i hope he keeps his career has been so awesome and i beleive he still has a way to go.
Does anyone know who Chaves Jr is fighting in that undercard bout, Because I think hes been fighting nobodys that duck and cover and let them shots get in I want to see him fight someone decent.

Pac has crazy stamina. He's an energizer bunny for 12 rounds. But he'll need more than a left hand to beat Morales. A lot more. He's gott use both fists. Morales being a slow starter will cost him the big ones will alwyas go against him unless he's facing someone tentative. He can't do that against Pac.
As far as Morales career goes, at least his legacy is set. He's ONLY 27 so he's got years ahead of him. Its just that one war after the other shortens a fighters career. Hopefully he doesn't get battle worn fast.

He is not always a slow started I just pointed that fight out i want a 4 if that would be possible. Yeah Pacman does need more than a left you think morales doesent know what he has I think JMM Discovered it pretty much and showed its not as dangerous depending on how you fight against it. BTW against JMM was he hurt In what round was it i think 6 where JMM caught him good.?

He couldn't use both hands ala Barrera fight cuz JMM countered too effectively. One straight shot was all he could put in before gets countered. He got caught a couple of times. One with a straight right that snapped his head back. It was had a lil whiplashed effect and he got stunned but not hurt ala spaghetti legs. JMM tried to capitalize but Pac fought back and that was the end of that run.
Another one was a right hand that JMM swung like a hook turned overhand. Caught Manny on the chest but he raises his hand and says he's ok.
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 02-28-2005, 02:16 AM Erik Morales is a Warrior but like all warriors(both on and off the ring) they don't last forever. Don't get me wrong i dont think he is going to loose on March 19th. But I do believe he is on his way down.
He is 28 years old going on 29 many would say thats hella young and still has ways to go. But he doesnt, he reached the pinacle, he came and he ruled, winning belts, fans, recognition, and fortune. But all that comes at a price.
The wars will inevitably finally take their toll, they always do with the toughest of the tough. Wether its Duran, Chavez, or Morales, wars take their toll and your age goes out the window at a speed dependant of the frequency of your wars. And as many know Morales has been in one after another. He has enough fights under his belt to last 2 or 3 boxing lifetimes. Many of those wars.
Here is a rundown of Erik and his Career:
At an incredibly young age of 21 he was matched against a lively and skilled Veteran champion in Daniel Zaragoza
A year Later he would fight the hard hitting and dream ending Junior Jones,
A year after that he would again fight destroying tough Angel Chacon and handing Wayne Mcullough a solid beating
A year after that (he was 23!!!) he would engage in one of the most exciting wars to date against now rival Marco Antonio Barrera
He would then again prove his chin and determination less than year later by engaging Kevin Kelley in Battle.
Again less than a year passed and he faced highly touted and now champion Injin Chi. Suffering many un-disciplined elbows, low blows, and headbutts along the way yet still pulling out the win like a champ
A year after that he would do it again by chasing Barrera accross the ring in the highly anticipated rematch. Less than a year later he would end the career (mentally) of paulie Ayala.
Less than a year later he would punish Bobby Boy Velardez and KO Guty Espadas.
Then he would strip Jesus Chavez of his belt less than 4 months later in another scorcher.
He would follow that up by beating IBF champ Carlos Famoso Hernandez over 12 rounds, less than 5 months later, (my birthday by the way)
Then he would once again be a protagonist in fight of the year less than 4 months later against Rival Marco Antonio Barrera.
Now once again he will go to war less than 4 months after his last against one of the most dangerous fighters in the sport, Manny Pacquiao.
Whats not to like?
xrhythmxnxbluesx 02-28-2005, 02:18 AM i seen that against jmm... made me laugh until he got hit again... than i got mad... hopefully he doesnt do that with morales... cuz morales is a more powerful puncher than jmm... and pac does have a suspect chin....
