But the question is, should more words be placed in there? There's links to emoticons on here that contain words like "*******" and "that's f*cking gay."

Personally, for me, I'd like to see the word "******" placed in the auto censor. I'm not gay (despite the user title and avatars, which are due to losing a bet) but I'd like to come on here and talk about boxing without having homophobia thrown in my face in the absence of wit.

I think part of it is that a boxing forum has to be just about the most homophobic place on the net, short of a GWB Convention. So the part of me that's a wind-up merchant does like to say it for that reason.

But there was a second word I had in mind, nothing to do with gays... can't remember now.

But does the auto censor pick up on words spelt like s.n.i.g.g.e.r.? I'd say not. All that will happen is people will get past it that way like they do on spam e-mail subject titles. i find that **** more annoying than the actual word. I think it's up to the moderators and a little self policing to monitor the situation otherwise the place will become a j.o.k.e.
This is a pretty tolerant site, one weightlifing forum I frequent pulled one of my posts because I used the word "fornicate" :confused: We don't need that **** happening here.

Yeah, there's got to be a fine line. Though I think there's a difference between tolerance and allowing people to denigrate minorities/liken people to special needs.

There shouldn't be any words on auto censor. We're all adults here.

People that can't use good judgment should just be bounced off the site. eyeh8you was using words like "pollock", "monkey", "darky", "*******" and other slurs as well as using the word "ghetto" to demean minorities for months and months before finally getting banned. Remember his blackface avatar, the one that followed one that had a swastika?

Autocensor isn't necessary. Getting rid of guys like this is a better idea. There's still plenty of it that goes on daily. But everytime I bring it up I get called a whiner or weak. Nice to see eyeh8you gone (or at least his username and avatar)

Has he been banned? I didn't know that. I won't comment myself as it's not nice to slate the guy when he's in no position to answer back, but yeah, I agree.

I think auto censoring any words is a mistake. Isn't this supposed to be an uncensored forum? The great comedian George Carlin once said "There are no bad words. There are bad thoughts and bad people but no bad words."

He was right. Words aren't dirty or mean or racist. Its the context in which people use them.

No...no more censoring...this is America. The looseness of this site is one of the reasons why it's better than the other sites. You take away our freedom of speech and censor us more it won't be loose here anymore and will feel like those "other" boxing sites. I don't want to log in here and feel like I'm at the library or church.

I did take a look at WarriorSpirit's post (he's on permanent ignore due to all the smack he talks, evidenced here) and it's interesting that he tried to get someone banned for racism when 50% of the homophobia on this site comes from him. Curious. "Get a life?" God, I can't believe I even justify the little prick by responding to him. You're such a silly little kid, WS.

I think maybe it's just one of those times when I need to take a step back from the forum for a week. It's a good place, but sometimes if you look in too often it can get to you, all the relentless and needless smack talk. Sometimes it can be fun, but often it's just some little silly kid still in high school who's just learnt how to swear, throwing around words like "nuthugger" and "hater" in a serious discussion about boxing.

I agree that there is lobsided censoring, if the N word is banned, but not ******. Ban them both or neither one.

I think there should be no auto censoring, anyone who uses those words as plain insults should just be banned...simple. There are so many alternatives to the N word that ar equally as offensive.
