View Full Version : Remember what I said about Big Punchers?
Im going to say just one more thing and thats it because I dont really like or feel comfertable doing this because it seems like Im bragging on myself and I am not conceeded. However :) , do you remeber what I said about all of you guys always talking about power punchers like Cotto and Zoo and all you say is what are they going to do when Cotto and Zoo hits them and I always say that everytime there is a fight you guys dont give the opponent no credit and you act like they have no offense. I always say that the punchers will land but the other guys will be scoring on them alot also and how will they be able to take a punch. We are both kind of right because Cotto got the KO but you see what I mean about the opponents offense. The same goes for a fight like Floyd vs Zoo. Zoo will land some shots but Floyd will be scoring alot and those punches will eventually start to wear on these big guys. Add to the fact that Floyd is a much better defensive and all around fighter then a guy like Chop.
Cotto, Zoo, Mayorga, Tito, Chico, Pac and all these punchers are great but stop just asking what is the opponent going to do when they get hit. They have a offense too. Zoo has been KO, Cotto was hurt bad in his first big fight, Mayorga lost to Spinks and was KO by Tito, Tito was KO by a non big puncher in X, Chico was TKO by Floyd, and Pac has been KO and had a draw in his last fight. None of these guys have great defense and all have suspect chins. There power will not just determine every fight. Give the opponents some credit. Like I said about Chop, Cotto will hit him with good shots but Chop will be scoring alot and landing clean punches. You guys always say that it doesnt matter because since guys like Chop and Floyd dont have super power then Cotto and Zoo will walk right through there punches because they know they cant hurt them. I hope you guys see that it is not that simple

You're the same guy who said RJJ almost knocked out Toney 2 or 3 times in their fight.
jack_the_rippuh 02-27-2005, 04:27 PM I agree...
If you can outbox a puncher and control yourself (meaning don't fight his fight, and more importantly don't get into those heavy hitting exchanges, even if you feel that he can't hurt you.) you can easily beat him. When you outbox a guy early in the fight and make a clear statement that you're winning, the guy starts searching for the KO...that's when the puncher is in danger, he won't be protecting himself or fighting smart when he's looking for the KO...you can be foolish and try to trade with him when he's like that or you can let him waste himself by blocking, moving & counter-punch him with some heavy shots to the body and head and break him down..
I think alot of boxers lose fights they can win when they get careless.
That's why you hear alot of boxers say, they're not going into the fight looking for a KO, if it's there they'll take it, but they're more than ready and willing to go the distance, that's because when you go into a fight looking for a KO against a fighter (tomato cans don't count.) you run the risk of getting KO'd yourself..

What are you talking about clown. Ive never even talked about RJ vs Toney one time on this board idiot

The idiot confused you for somebody else...how embarrassing. Kind of like making fun of somebody's spelling only to spell something wrong while making fun of them.
SweetScience 02-27-2005, 05:38 PM Cotto is NOT a big puncher.

I've never heard you say that either.
BrooklynBomber 02-27-2005, 06:53 PM I am sorry disillisuon you DLT but nobody is on the same level as Kostya in terms of punching power in Jr. Welter and Kostya knows perfectly well what to do when he is stunned. Watch Judah fight when Kostya gets stunned from monster left uppercut and what he does. Classic. And we all know what happened in the next round.
By the way Cotto is not the big puncher he unleashes his power in combinations and his power mainly based on size advantage. He hits like average middleweight.
BrooklynBomber 02-27-2005, 06:54 PM Oh and by the way Jack drop that avatar you are demoralising me.
That thing is real scary :D

If youre posting this in response to cotto's fight (and Im sure you are even tho youre mentioning all big punchers) Cotto did not fight how he usually fights against chop, Its clear he came out punching like a bull,he's usually much more patient, come on,how can you base all youve said on one fight?

That was me!
JT is one of my favourites, but RJJ had him hurt (big) 2 or 3 times, i stand by it.
