Sugarj 08-17-2009, 05:31 PM Nearly! His loss to Barrera and lack of comeback dent his credentials in alot of minds. He should have got his act together and prepared thoroughly for a rematch (he had a rematch clause!) before retiring, has he officially retired yet? He seems to be forever flirting with a comeback, but looks around the light heavy limit! His behaviour outside the ring and subsequent jail sentence for running away from a car crash which left a man badly injured doesn't help either. That said, he was one of the most tallented fighters in the 90s! He obliterated a number of ex champions and current champions, unified the belts, brought colour to the lower weight divisions and gave us some terrific, exciting performances. His peak was short lived 1994-1999 and many foreign fans only really got to see him from 1997 onwards which will probably mean that in alot of minds he was greatly unproven and to be honest his best form was 1994/95. But if you were British and a boxing fan in the mid 90s you were treated to many outstanding displays of speed, a unorthodox style, elusiveness and power. You could barely hit him with a bowl of rice! Also, was there ever a featherweight with more raw power? He had to be up there! The Noose 08-17-2009, 05:48 PM Nearly! You could barely hit him with a bowl of rice! Also, was there ever a featherweight with more raw power? He had to be up there! I agree, but i voted yes. Eventhough he is a twat, he was one of the most exciting fighters ever, a great champion for 6 years, and was a huge draw. In fact he was a much bigger draw than Floyd Mayweather, because he was big in the UK and the middle east. He was great for boxing, and is talked about more than most fighters who retired back then. poet682006 08-17-2009, 08:25 PM Also, was there ever a featherweight with more raw power? JAB5239 08-17-2009, 09:15 PM Alexis Arguello; and, depending on whether you rank him as a Featherweight or a Bantamweight, Ruben Oliveras. Poet I love Arguello and he was definitely the better fighter, but Im not sure there was ever a featherweight with the one punch power of Hamed. I put a lot of stock into Manny Steward saying Naseem was the best puncher he ever worked with considering some of the names he's trained. lparm 08-17-2009, 09:58 PM If Hamed doesn't get in the HOF clearly has no credibility. It's supposed to be great fighters and a guy that reigned as the best fw in the world for a few years in the late 90s and singlehandedly made HBO care about the little guys fits the bill of what a HOF fighter should be. If Gatti ever gets in then Hamed is a certainty. sonnyboyx2 08-18-2009, 12:50 AM look at the ibhof list http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.php/Category:IBHOF_Members Barry McGuigan? Terry Norris? Saad Muhammad was an awesome fighter, Naz Hamed left a grave yard of fighters behind him, if he had fought Barrera 12 months earlier Barrera would have been KOd princemanspoper 08-18-2009, 01:05 AM Naseem Hamed I believe was the first man to unify all four titles of the four main boxing bodies(WBC,IBF,WBA,WBO).Unfortunately he was never given this official credit due to the WBA stripping Vasquez in the lead up to their fight His behaviour outside the ring and subsequent jail sentence for running away from a car crash which left a man badly injured doesn't help either. Carlos Monzon? Naz Hamed left a grave yard of fighters behind him, if he had fought Barrera 12 months earlier Barrera would have been KOd What people forget is the fact that Morales and Barrera,These so called mexican warrior didn't want anything to do with Hamed for the three years he called them out.Juan Manuel Marquez the fighter who Hamed apparently wanted nothing to do with also turned down a fight with Hamed in summer of 2000.Had Barrera fought Hamed a year earlier and used the exact same tactical fight he still would have beaten Hamed,Hamed was a pale shadow of the fighter that he once was from 1998 onwards. 1SILVA 08-18-2009, 01:13 AM MANUEL MEDINA 8/31/96 126 KO11 TOM JOHNSON 2/8/97 126 KO8 KEVIN KELLEY 12/19/97 126 KO4 WILFREDO VASQUEZ 4/18/98 126 KO7 WAYNE MCCULLOUGH 10/31/98 126 W12 PAUL INGLE 4/10/99 126 KO11 CESAR SOTO 10/22/99 126 W12 VUYANI BUNGU 3/11/00 126 KO4 He dominated all these fighters throughout his 126 reign. Of all the guys to beef about in the HOF, picking arguably the #1 JMW and arguably a top 20 LHW were not the ways to go. That said, I'd also induct Naz into the HOF. But he's not significantly better (if at all better) than Norris or Saad Muhammad. He's a poor man's RJJ, without the weight division jumps, something "ducked" fighters normally would do. I know Mayweather was plenty interested just 4 lbs north, and he'd even meet him at a catch weight. princemanspoper 08-18-2009, 01:34 AM Matthew Saad Muhammad a top 20 LHW of all time? It's no surprise that the light heavyweight division of the late 1970's and early 1980's is often called the golden era of the division. The late 1980's and the early 1990's on the other hand was likely the worst era in LHW history. poet682006 08-18-2009, 08:42 AM Naz Hamed left a grave yard of fighters behind him Primarily because he went looking for opponents in the graveyard in the first place. Poet mickey malone 08-18-2009, 08:59 AM On the amount of world class fighters he beat, then yes he should be inducted.. I've got 2 words for ya: Barry McGuigan. MANGLER 08-18-2009, 01:32 PM Yep. Dude unified 126, was a spectacular puncher who stayed dominant throughout his reign, and put on a lotta entertainin fights. Get him in. Stoppage 08-18-2009, 01:42 PM I think he does. He had a good reign at featherweight and was an exciting fighter with great talent. I think he had the tools to be Barrera but fought a stupid fight that night with his hands too low. I guess he thought he could do whatever he wanted. princemanspoper 08-18-2009, 02:01 PM He had had great tools to beat Barrera.A great punch and Barrera's weak chin.Barrera didn't beat him because of a ****ty game plan on Hamed part,He beat him because he fought an absolute shadow of the real naseem hamed. His power got him through his last three years against a bunch of fighters who had a death wish implementing the strategy that they did Obama 08-18-2009, 05:56 PM He had had great tools to beat Barrera.A great punch and Barrera's weak chin.Barrera didn't beat him because of a ****ty game plan on Hamed part,He beat him because he fought an absolute shadow of the real naseem hamed. His power got him through his last three years against a bunch of fighters who had a death wish implementing the strategy that they did Delusional. He was past his best, but he wasn't THAT past it. He simply finally got in there with the best opponent of his career. And you're fooling yourself if you don't think Barrera's technical counter punching skills would have given him fits regardless of the man's prime status. Dynamite Kid 08-18-2009, 08:17 PM It does make me laugh when people make Hamed out to be some sort of defensive wizard back in the day (Prime). Hamed was getting hammered by Sanchez, Barrera, Kelly and tagged by Tom Johnson, Paul Ingle and getting banged about by Manuel Medina and Daniel Alicea which was in his firs title defence (Alicea) but Naz fans would have you believe he was a wizard defensively and that he fell out of love with training, fighting Yadda Yadda Yadda. When Hamed was fighting European Champions or domestic fighters he did look difficult to hit but when he stepped up Hamed was getting hammered by World Class fighters. billionaire 08-18-2009, 08:33 PM im not saying norris and saad muhammad werent great fighters, but they are in because of there excitment factor moreso than skills.....so whats the problem with hamed? chillin8 08-18-2009, 08:36 PM He had had great tools to beat Barrera.A great punch and Barrera's weak chin.Barrera didn't beat him because of a ****ty game plan on Hamed part,He beat him because he fought an absolute shadow of the real naseem hamed. His power got him through his last three years against a bunch of fighters who had a death wish implementing the strategy that they did  LMAO...Give it up son..You ain't convincing nobody,,,Hamed can't co sign that **** Obama 08-18-2009, 10:56 PM im not saying norris and saad muhammad werent great fighters, but they are in because of there excitment factor moreso than skills.....so whats the problem with hamed? Hamed was an arrogant little ****, who had just ditched his lifelong trainer (the excellent Brendan Ingle) & dumped his management team in favour of his no nothing brother, Raith.. Although he didn't realize it, Hamed's career was in total disarray at the time & he was more or less training himself, as he'd decided, he knew it all, already.. Had Barrera met the Hamed that fought Wilfredo Vasquez or Auggie Sanchez, there's no doubt in my mind, Marco would have been KTFO.. Hamed's style was largely reliant on timing, Brendan Ingles specialist subject.. He didn't have that timing for the Barrera fight, & Marco was very quick to pick him off every time he missed.. Hamed lost by a mile, & may have been stopped over 15.. screwhead1 08-19-2009, 06:13 AM i vote yes...dude brought a whole new light to boxing...he made the sport a lot more enjoyable to a new audience who wasn't too boxing savvy...he deserves to be remembered for that... sonnyboyx2 08-19-2009, 07:39 AM Matthew Saad Muhammad a top 20 LHW of all time?
