Thinking about starting a weight progam, but I have a real long reach. By doing weights will they shorten my reach? And can you tell me some good points about weights and can they help me in my boxing career?

Gizzam 08-17-2009, 02:28 PM Weights used to gain muscle will give you unwelcome extra weight and you'll be too heavy for your frame and fighting at a weight above what's natural. So I would reccomend using them minimally or not at all. If you train with a specific goal in mind then you should be OK but a lot of guys will try and overtrain the biceps which will affect the extension of your muscles. It's unlikely it will affect you however unless you're really on a bodybuilding kick and you'd feel other problems such as lack of energy and speed long before you'd notice the loss of reach. Well if you do it really wrong you can lose some flexibility in your joints. So don't body build excessively while not working on your flexibility and you'll be fine.
