These two teams need better competition. What do you all reckon about a move like that?

View Full Version : Would you Brits be in favor of Celtic and Rangers in the EPL? Texanballer 08-14-2009, 02:35 PM These two teams need better competition. What do you all reckon about a move like that? You'd get shot for even considering that. squealpiggy 08-14-2009, 09:29 PM No it's an atrocious idea. Firstly it would absolutely kill Scottish football outside of Glasgow. Secondly Celtic and Rangers would fall somewhere in the top ten of the league, displacing a couple of English teams. Thirdly when Rangers went to Manchester for the UEFA Cup final they trashed the place. The Premier League has gone a long way in getting rid of the violence, the last thing we need is a bunch of Scottish Nationalists trashing English towns every week. Finally how could it possibly be fair to simply grant a pair of teams a free pass into the Premiership? Surely if they were to be granted access to the English league they should be compelled to start in the Conference North and work their way up like everyone else has to! Sir Tom Jones 08-14-2009, 09:45 PM celtic and rangers would stuggle in the english leagues. Dem Eyes 08-14-2009, 09:46 PM celtic and rangers would stuggle in the english leagues. Not in League 2. :lol1: Sir Tom Jones 08-14-2009, 10:04 PM celtic and rangers would find it tough in the championship. no lie. Home town hero 08-15-2009, 10:50 AM the only way i would agree is if they paid compensation to the teams due to be promoted from blue square prem to league 2 then join league 2. How ever this would kill scottish football and rangers and celtic would onyl end up mid table prem teams anyway. It will never happen because all the chairmen will vote against it, if you was a Championship side why would you want two teams who will take your place in the premiership? If you're Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City.. Why would you want competition for the League and Champions League spots? If you're Accrington Stanley why would you want to be pushed out of the League altogether? Mozza 08-16-2009, 12:06 PM No it's an atrocious idea. This is ridiculous. Firstly, if Rangers and Celtic entered the Premiership with their current squads then yes, they would finish in the middle to lower half of the team. However, given the astronomical increase in revenue it would mean for both Clubs it is inconceivable that they would maintain the same players therefore it is far more likely they would be challenging for Champions League places. Rangers fans trashing Manchester is a rather poor argument against joining the EPL. It is estimated that there were between 100-200,000 Rangers fans in Manchester for the UEFA Cup final. There would never be that many fans travelling to any game however even if there was, it is nigh on impossible that the particular set of circumstances, notably a TV breaking down and pre-emptive policing, would arise again. Fairness doesn't come into it. It would be as fair for Rangers and Celtic to enter into the Premiership as it is that teams with a fraction of the fanbase can earn 20 times more money from finishing bottom in a league than we currently do from winning one! Oh, and you won't find many Scottish nationalists in either the Rangers or Celtic support. Mozza 08-16-2009, 12:07 PM celtic and rangers would stuggle in the english leagues. You obviously know nothing about the circumstances surrounding this debate which is in character at least because you're forever polluting this place with twattish views. Chunk 08-16-2009, 03:04 PM I'd love to see them both in the Premiership. At least they would be able to test themselves against quality opposition week in - week out down here. |
