View Full Version : Can today's fighters last 15 rounds? m00ks 11-19-2004, 09:44 PM Wee see boxers today empty their tank by the 12th round. Which fighters of today would last 15? phallus 11-19-2004, 10:06 PM i bet Hops could go 15, he's always in shape. Maybe the Baby Bull, he's young, all full of piss and vinegar. .::|ULTIMATE|::. 11-19-2004, 10:22 PM Morales could probably go 15. Margarito could probably go 15. Rafael and Juan Marquez could probably go 15. They all spar a lot of rounds in training and morales and the Marquez bro's train at 12000+ feet of altitude. borikua 11-19-2004, 10:29 PM I think that there is a few that could... But I think that fighting 15 rounds would just make fighters take it easier on themselves on the earlier rounds and by consequence more boring for the fans...IMO with less rounds in a fight, I think that fighters would go at it harder and more explosive...Do you imagine that instead of 12 rds of 3mins we had 1 round with unlimited time...that would warranty a KO in every fight. But then it would be nothing more than a street fight... spinksjinx 11-19-2004, 11:03 PM Chris Byrd-The only guy above 160 in my opinion. Erik Morales Bernard Hopkins ^ Two guys who train an insane amounts for even the smallest of fights, these guys are warriors and should make anyone proud truly boxing greats. Cory Spinks-Always keep his cool and always in cruise mode, I think he might be able to last the whole 15 due to him being calm a lot and dictating a decent pace. Thats is about it in my book Runner ups: Floyd Mayweather Diego Corrales Winky Wright Juan Manuel Marquez their really is only a few fighters who stand out in my mind who could last the whole 15. Hurlex 11-19-2004, 11:03 PM morlaes..mab...hopkins...margarito and mayorga maybe..thats it thought tito/pac/dlh/toney/winky/etc... wouldnt make it spinksjinx 11-19-2004, 11:04 PM morlaes..mab...hopkins...margarito and mayorga maybe..thats it thought tito/pac/dlh/toney/winky/etc... wouldnt make it Margarito/Mayorga you may want to reassess that. Eyeh8you 11-19-2004, 11:24 PM Any heavy that can go 12 rds can go 15. They would justt pace themselves for three more rds! Jezuz could you imagine3 more rds of Ruiz's homo huggin! Hurlex 11-19-2004, 11:31 PM dude a in shape mayorga and margarito at 147 lasted hella long..rememer mayorga was not at his wieght when he faced tito...these 2 have good stamina though The Fix 11-19-2004, 11:37 PM the thing is if fighters trained and prepared for 15 round i think most could do it. right now they train for 12 and they give it all they got so by twelve they are tired VPDJ 11-20-2004, 12:15 AM Manny Pacquiao of course. dpfinley 11-20-2004, 01:26 AM Byrd's the only noteable heavyweight that could possibly do it. Try to think of anyone else... Most of the top-name lighter weights can - Morales Hopkins Spinks JMM maybe Castillo abdiel2k3 11-20-2004, 01:50 AM lets truly be honest any fighter can go 15 rounds when there were 15rounds b4 many guys went the distance didnt mean they were great or not great now if the question is how many of todays top guys can fight a hard 15rounds then id have to agree with most of you on morales, hopkins, pacquiao, and some of the others Epie2 11-20-2004, 02:26 AM tito/pac/dlh/toney/winky/etc... wouldnt make it ed After the 11th round stoppage of Marco Antonio Barrera by the PacMan, the HBO's commentators were so impressed by the unrelenting attack that one of them commented that Pac "could have gone 20 rounds tonight". JOM'S 11-20-2004, 02:42 AM I agree with most of you guys call on who can go 15 competitive rounds specially EM & JMM, but would disagree to some that cut the PacMan out, aside from the left straight & speed, Stamina is Pac's greatest assets... Hurlex 11-20-2004, 02:54 AM the thing is pac styles gets figured out and against a boxer who can hit like morales...say in 15 round fight wil have more then enough time to ko him...but in general pac has okay stamina but not in top 3 for sure...winky is sorry for leaving him out JOM'S 11-20-2004, 03:16 AM the thing is pac styles gets figured out and against a boxer who can hit like morales...say in 15 round fight wil have more then enough time to ko him...but in general pac has okay stamina but not in top 3 for sure...winky is sorry for leaving him out I agree with you that for a boxer that can hit like EM he will have more chances to KO Pac in 15 rounds, but that does not mean Pac can not last or be competitive in 15 rounds and also have more chances to KO the other guy... JOM'S 11-20-2004, 03:17 AM The point here Pac is 15 rounder fighter, just like JMM & EM... Hurlex 11-20-2004, 03:28 AM well ok whatever...but he's not in upper class get me...along with hopkins and morales JOM'S 11-20-2004, 03:36 AM well ok whatever...but he's not in upper class get me...along with hopkins and morales OK if thats what you think, but I have seen pac went it to wars and maintained his stamina the whole fight, so I am sure his up there close enough with the guys you mentioned... Atwa_66 11-20-2004, 04:23 PM Any heavy that can go 12 rds can go 15. They would justt pace themselves for three more rds! Jezuz could you imagine3 more rds of Ruiz's homo huggin! hahaha could'nt have said it better. And I think if they went 15 rounds McCline should just stop boxing, when he fought Byrd, he was exhausted by the 5th round, can you see him standing for 15? GasPed 11-20-2004, 05:09 PM It general, it's alot harder on the super heavies to go long rounds. In fact, I can't think of any big guy who looked reasonably fresh after 10 (well, maybe Ibeabuchi, Bowe?). Most of the big guys (Klits, Lewis, McCline, Grant, etc.) look dog tired after 5 or 6... oldgringo 11-20-2004, 05:13 PM The Toney we saw against Jirov could have easily gone 15. Hopkins and Morales are obvious choices. Winky could do it too. Ranger2408 11-20-2004, 06:02 PM Cory Spinks-Always keep his cool and always in cruise mode, I think he might be able to last the whole 15 due to him being calm a lot and dictating a decent pace. Firstly if that were the case Zab would have Koed spinks and secondly fighters train for 12 and fight 12 if it were 15 they would train for that many rounds dempseyfire 11-20-2004, 10:26 PM EYE8 its MUCH harder then you think to pace yourself. 9 rounds is a lotta time. Klitschko, McCline, Whitaker, Rahman etc. all could not go 15 rds with getting either extreamly fatigued or KO'd . . . bigdlb12 11-21-2004, 01:24 AM winky, mosley, vargas if he doesnt get KO,lol hopkins, trinidad, byrd, holyflied even at his age etc... I think there are alot more than what we think Zab Super Judah 11-21-2004, 05:24 AM hopkins could go 15 and pacman......and probably morales........the mayorga at 147 might be able to go 15 rounds leff 11-21-2004, 09:50 AM I dont see any of the big boys doing it exept byrd and maybe ruiz is capable og hugging for 15 rounds. lsk 11-21-2004, 10:46 AM if they woud prepear for 15 rounds they coud leff 11-21-2004, 02:11 PM The thing is Byrd has the stamina he has and can go 15 rounds for one good reason, he is not that big. The fighters of today are to big and heavy, how many of the good 15 round fights has included people above 220lbs? Todays heavy contenders are like 240-250 that way to much to drag for 15 rounds. Novirasputin 11-21-2004, 02:17 PM The KT who fought TAckie Jirov probably Basically any fighters who can be economical (and Jirov was economizing in the Mesi fight remember) guys like say Hopkins too |
