View Full Version : A backwards step for Danny Williams? April/Summer bouts lined up.

Apparently Danny Williams is having a "tune up" fight in April in order to have a domestic match-up with British and Commonwealth champ Matt Skelton.

Skelton, who transferred from the K-1 circuit and has no amateur boxing experience, is 15-0 (14 KOs) and is the fastest-ever acquirer of the B & C belts (even faster than Lewis).

Skelton's big, aggressive, and has a good chin, but isn't a one-punch KO artist and relies more on heart than skill. He's crude and raw, but has hunger. After tonight (a bout with Fabio Moli, a man destroyed by Wlad last year in a round) he should also add the meaningless WBU belt to his collection.

But is preparing for a bout with Matt a backwards step for Danny? He's been widely acknowledged as underachieving by remaining at that level for years, and Skelton got the title by blugeoning Michael Sprott - a man Williams beat twice and then foolishly let him take the title away on points by showboating.

Hey, I know you all love Danny Williams threads, right? :)

Williams stepped up in competition and was so outclassed against Vitali that it was apparent to that fight should NEVER have taken place. It was an amateur vs a pro that night.

A bum getting a tune-up fight. Why didn't they just say he's going back to the level he belongs on.

I thought Danny Williams was OK after he beat Tyson and thought he could possibly give VK trouble. But after what VK did to Williams I relized that Williams is a bum and he only beat Tyson because Tyson got injured and he is not the same Tyson of the past.

All I can say is that Skelton better destroy Moli. Moli weighed in 20 lbs heavier than he did against Wlad at a hefty 279 lbs. Does this look like the body of a Greek god?

As for Vit... well, he is the top of the heavyweight tree. When Danny was in the Brit mix (despite losing the title, largely due to uninterest) he was widely recognised as being above all his peers. I still don't know where he'd fit. He's proven he can trade with a near-40 Tyson... even before he bust his knee they were still trading blows.

According to boxrec, Williams is currently rated 25th in the world (below Tyson, inexplicably) and Skelton is 40th.

But after what VK did to Williams I relized that Williams is a bum and he only beat Tyson because Tyson got injured and he is not the same Tyson of the past. You can't judge a man from those two performances... talk about starting at the bottom (sorry, I love Tyson, but he IS shot) and going right in at the top. Who's to say what would have happened if he'd gone in with, say, Ruiz or Rahman?

Boxing News have been heavily (no pun intended) deriding the choice of opponent for the last two weeks, and predict Skelton to get him out of there in 6.

Actually, I dunno how boxrec work half their crap out, do you? They've got Audley Harrison up at 17 somehow...

Skelton should be a tune up fight. Who the **** is Danny going to fight to "tune up" for a ****in Matt Skelton match? Skelton isnt even a contender. Williams should have just went straight at Skelton, or Williams should fight Audley Harrison, that loud-mouth nothing of a Heavyweight.

One more thing on this "Williams a bum" stuff... someone else on another thread (the Lewis one) described him as "second-tier" and I think that's about right. He's obviously no premier world beater and wouldn't have lived with Lewis, a prime Tyson or (as painfully proved) Vitali. But the sad fact is, nearly the entire division is second-tier now, and I think he could have a shot with anyone whose initials aren't V.K.

Well, who saw it? If anyone's interested I'll upload the fight tonight.

I'm not hyping Skelton, incidentally - I think his style is extremely crude and he'll never get higher than European level. (though I guess technically he already has). But he's a nice enough bloke and if someone wants to see a man who makes Ruiz look technically accomplished then I'll upload it.

I take it he won then? I'm waiting for it to appear on ************** seeing as I can't afford Sky Sports :(

Lol :D

I`d appreciate watching Skelton Anorak. I saw him against Francis and Sprott last year. He is crude and technically lacking but the strengh and the force of the man put him in the domestic ettle in the UK!

Yeah clearly. It took Skelton 6 rounds to get of a 279 lbs Moli, when it took Wlad who is shot in some people's eye 1:32.

I was trying to keep it a secret. I'll upload it tonight anyway.

I don't know about comparing times as such, though. After all, Ali only had one first round KO, and that was highly dubious (Liston). Not that I'd ever compare Matt Skelton with Muhammad Ali, obviously...

How many people who have requested this fight have actually seen the guy before? He just leans on people and blugeons... it's not pretty, but he's growing in popularity.

I'll be honest, this is the first time I've seen Skelton fight, but if that's all wev'e got to offer on the heavy weight scene I suggest we start and enter the knitting world championships because any fighter with a decent jab would have kicked Skeltons arse. If he fought Klit it would be the easiest millions Klit has ever earned.

Why is Danny Williams calling out Tyson again? He should call out one of the champions if he is serious about winning a title.

williams beat tyson cos tyson is a shot fighter (nothing to do with his knee).williams however is a "domestic" level fighter as shown by performances against sprott and then vitali.he couldn't even beat samil sam who is no great shakes!!

Williams said he had glandular fever against Sam and was clearly having one of his "psychological" nights. I'd still say he'd beat Sam 7 times out of 10... just a shame he met him on one of those 3 out of 10 nights.
