View Full Version : Jeff Fenech To Train Iron Mike Tyson
Rick Reeno 02-25-2005, 11:05 AM It is being reported by the Australian press that legendary trainer Jeff Fenech plans to train Mike Tyson in Thailand next month to help him prepare for his comeback bid.
Fenech told the press that he has put Tyson through a very tough fitness regime in Los Angeles all week. Tyson apparently sought the aid of Fenech to help get him in top condition. [details (http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=765)]
Kimmy 02-25-2005, 12:19 PM Fenech is there for the payday, there is nothing else to accomplish with Tyson. He is a shot fighter who has consistantly proved an inability to succeed when the going gets tough. Even against a bum there is always a chance he`ll lose, thats the only think to look forward to in a Tyson fight!
Fenech is there for more than the payday. He & Tyson have been good friends for nearly 20 years.
Kimmy 02-25-2005, 06:55 PM Great....so they can go for a drink in the bar after training. Maybe Tyson`s other mates Roberto Duran and Jay Bright can meet them in there!
Duran is Fenech's favourite fighter!!
phallus 02-25-2005, 08:13 PM too little, too late. Fenech is a great fighter, in fact i'm pretty sure he's in the boxing hall of fame, and a good trainer too, but it's gonna take more than that to make iron mike champ again, even these days. when cus damato digs himself out of his grave to train tyosn again - maybe
Kimmy 02-25-2005, 08:27 PM People shouldn`t pour scorn on mighty Mike, buy him another drink at the bar. And his mates, jeff and Roberto!
The Phantom Menace 02-25-2005, 08:56 PM Is Tyson trying to find a trainer or just someone who will make him feel motivated again? That's what it seems like he is doing. The only place Tyson can find motivation is within himself, it doesn't matter how many top trainers he hires to try to find it.
grayfist 02-26-2005, 12:54 AM I can't recall in connection with what fight it was-- but it was fairly a recent one-- when Jeff left Mike's training camp, after spending close to a week in it, claiming utter disgust over Tyson's training attitude.
Jeff now claims Mike is mentally shaping up. But, how many times have we heard someone say that before? :o
Freddie and those who went before him as well as those who came after, had found success in other fighters they trained because they were not only good in the physical dimension but also astute in the mental preparedness aspect of the fight game. Except for Cuss, and to a lesser degree, Teddy, the rest have not been resounding successes when it came to Iron Mike.
For Tyson's own sake, I hope Fenech is right, this time. :o Doing it anywhere-- Thailand, Australia... won't make any diferrence. I agree with Phantom Menace that the place to look into when one is trying to make something better out of the present Mike are not only his legs, hands and body, but also those between Mike's ears and deep down inside his breast. :(
joeboxer 02-26-2005, 03:43 PM Mike has been a little guy fighting in the biggest weight division at or near the top of the division for 20 years. that **** would take it out of anybody. Foreman was able to win at 45 but he had a huge period off and he didn't come on the scene as early. Even Ali had three years off, although that might hurt your boxing skills it helps to take a break to keep your enthusiasm.

fatcity 02-26-2005, 08:30 PM let's see now, since Freddie Roach, there was Jeff Fenech,Roberto Duran, Buddy MMcGirt and now it's back to the once disgusted with Tyson,Jeff Fenech.MIKE WILL ALWAYS HAVE TRAINERS LINING UP FOR HIM AS LONG AS mIKE CAN TURN A BUCK AND mIKE GIVES THE ORDERS.Mike can only be trained by a lion tamer and since seigfied and Roy are not available,I GUESS DRINKING BUDDIES QUALIFY1Let MIKE BE mike, the side show event that he is and hope that someday he finds peace.
Kimmy 02-26-2005, 09:12 PM Spot on Fatcity. Mike isn`t employing trainers, he`s recruiting his friends, more like cheerleaders. If Jeff Fenech tries to train Tyson properly he`ll be fired because Tyson doesn`t like to be told what to do. Best way to cope with Iron Mike, take him to the bar, get him a drink and hire a whore to keep him company. Just don`t mention boxing, Mike isn`t interested!
kahuna 02-28-2005, 02:04 AM What happened to McGirt?
Great question. Last I heard he was headed to Florida, and had register as a sex offender, as required.
then again, maybe ya ain't gotta register in Australia, in which case I pity the Kangaroos.

Exactly. That is the very reason that Kevin Rooney was fired in the first place, because he actually cared about Tyson enough to teach him some discipline.
Goosey 02-28-2005, 11:46 AM Mike still has the big punch but he cant keep going as he once did. He is in with a chance for 3 rounds versus most.. But after that ... I doubt it
Pugnacious_Z 03-01-2005, 01:37 AM i wish fenech gets tyson good
psychopath 03-01-2005, 05:34 PM It doesn't really matter who trains Tyson . . . you can't teach an OLD DOG new tricks . . . he is can still be competitive but no longer dominating. :boxing:
