Sir Tom Jones 08-07-2009, 06:31 PM Nice to get away from the glory hunters in the other thread.
First game of the season tonight. Boro V Sheff Utd. Was a hard first game for Boro as Sheff Utd are a quality team at this level. Although a draw is not too bad for Boro they would have been looking for the 3 points.

The serious stuff begins tomorrow.
Cardiff V Scunthorpe. First league game in the season new season hope we get off to a winning start but the way football is we'll probably lose.

First half was a beaut! Thought we were in for a good game. 2nd half was Zzzzzzz... Both keepers looked good, so did Adam Johnson and Mark Yeates.
BIG GAME ON TOMORROW! WBA vs Newcastle. TOOOOOOOOON ARMY!
Sir Tom Jones 08-07-2009, 06:40 PM A toughie for the toon. WBA are the Man Utd of the championship. Don't get your hopes up too high. lol

if im honest newcastle will struggle to make the play offs. On paper they should be top 2 easily but your players show **** all passion or commitment much like my teams players last year. Youll also be every teams FA cup final if you see what i mean.

This is going to be a tough match for both of us. You lot are all over the place at the moment and we've got a few injuries and suspensions. I personally think we've got the two strongest squads in the championship so don't think todays match will be too important, but it would be great to get an early win. Now i'm off down the pub for pre match drinks.

That is the plan. The pub I go to does beautiful curries and £1.50 for a pint of carling. You have to be drunk to watch West Brom.

7-1 drubbing at home. Roader's now looking a saint.
......and Tom, well done to you boys. I seen some posts slagging Chopra off, nice to see him prove everybody wrong....even though he did **** for Forest. Don't get used to the top though.
As for Forest. 0-0 away at Reading is a great result. Clean sheet. Team composure is the way forward. I'm hoping for a top half finish this year.

I Can Manage Newcastle United - David Ginola
The flamboyant Frenchman thinks he could be the man to bring the glory days back to the Toon...
13-Aug-2009 9:53:54 PM
David Ginola has revealed that he would relish the opportunity to manage his old side Newcastle United, a club where he enjoyed two years as a fans' favourite during the time when Kevin Keegan was manager at St James' Park.
The Frenchman is looking to begin a career in management and feels that the Magpies would represent as good a place to start as anywhere else.
"Why not?" he asserted, speaking to Sky Sports News. "I'll probably come back to live in this country. I'm looking forward to coming back to the game. Yes."
The man who was famous for his flamboyance and stylish skills as a player with the Toon and later with Tottenham Hotspur feels that his personal qualities would stand him in good stead as a boss.
"Because I'm very straightforward with things, I'm pretty sure that being a manager, or just being involved with the club, I would defend my philosophy of football or of life, of responsibility, of passion," he affirmed.
"If you sign for me you will have to provide more than you expect to do."
The management situation at St James' Park is still uncertain, to say the least. Whilst the club's directors continue to seek a buyer for the troubled outfit, Chris Hughton continues manage team affairs on an interim basis with no indication as yet as to how long he will have to undertake those duties.
Alan Shearer remains interested in managing the club, but no appointment can be made until the club is sold.

Just trying to be too ****y wasn't he really. I thought you were the better team, however we should have killed the game off after we'd scored. I think you're a decent team who may make the playoffs.

Brick Tamland 09-04-2009, 01:03 PM NEWCASTLE United are expected to announce three loan signings next week in a last-ditch attempt to strengthen the squad after months of frustrating delays at St James’s Park.
Hughton has tried hard to keep his targets under wraps, although it is believed Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood is one of the players he wants to bring in ahead of the trip to Cardiff City on September 13.
The Magpies are desperately short in that area because of a foot injury to Shola Ameobi, while Peter Løvenkrands is lacking match fitness having only trained with Glasgow Rangers in pre-season.
Manchester United’s young defender Craig Cathcart is another likely arrival as the Magpies look to exploit the loophole in the transfer window system by making use of so-called “emergency” loans system.
The Journal understands Hughton – who will almost certainly be named Championship manager of the month for August – is also looking to add a wide player to his squad as he tries to maintain United’s impressive start to the season which has seen them win five out of their six games.
Hughton said: “We’re able to bring in loan players seven days after the window shuts so we will certainly be looking to take advantage of that. We were looking at players before the window shut, but we have to wait for a week and then we can hopefully get something done before the Cardiff game.
“We know the squad is short on numbers and we want to bring in players, but they have to be the right players for us. We couldn’t reach an agreement with a couple on Tuesday and so the business couldn’t be done in time.”
Although Hughton has mentioned the existence of a small transfer kitty, that money will be used to pay loan fees as most clubs demand some sort of payment to take players on a temporary basis.
This belated recruitment programme – along with the refusal to allow any more players to leave this week – is just part of a gradual shift from owner Mike Ashley, who is privately beginning to plan for the possibility the club will not be sold and he stays in charge.
Although the United hierarchy – who remain confident the team will be
promoted this season despite the lack of numbers available – are still talking to prospective new owner Barry Moat and other interested private groups, it is looking increasingly unlikely the club will be sold in the short term.
Indeed, while merchant bank Seymour Pierce are still looking for a buyer, Ashley and managing director Derek Llambias have also been talking directly to other interested parties who have yet to begin due diligence which, as we have seen already this summer, takes several weeks to complete.
That has forced Ashley to take more of an interest in the squad’s strength rather than just the urgent need to slash the wage bill and costs following relegation.
The Journal has been told there are no plans to appoint a permanent manager at this stage because of the good job done by Hughton and assistant manager Colin Calderwood.
However, that may well change if takeover talks continues to stall with Joe Kinnear expected to be given the green light to return to work by doctors next month.
The prospect of Kinnear’s return will not sit well with many fans given the mocking comments he made over the summer about their adulation for Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer.
Unlike Hughton, Kinnear has also publicly defended Ashley and insisted that it is only Newcastle supporters – and not others in the game – who feel the sports shop billionaire should sell up.
Indeed, many United fans would be probably be happier if Hughton was kept in charge, even though the former Tottenham player won just one out of the nine games he was left in charge last term.
Meanwhile, Cathcart is determined to put his transfer deadline day blues behind him and help Northern Ireland Under-21s off to a flying start in their European Championship qualifying campaign.
Cathcart was due to train yesterday on the eve of the away match against the Czech Republic after linking up with the squad on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan to Plymouth, was given leave as he was in talks with Newcastle.
His proposed move broke down when he failed a medical, but it is understood a loan deal could still be an option.
Under-21 manager Steve Beaglehole said: “Craig has not trained for the last couple of days and it is important we get him in the right frame of mind.
“He is an experienced player for us as he has played in the Coca-Cola Championship week in, week out.
“He is fit to play as far I am concerned and I know he just wants a good blow-out.”

We dominated that game. They had one shot on target all game and because of lacklustre defending from us, produced a goal. We had shot after shot and couldn't bury ****. Earnshaw even had an open goal at one point. Their yank keeper couldn't catch a ball for ****, and was just wanting us to score. Disgrace.
By the way, we got you boys on TV. BBC2 i think.
Sir Tom Jones 09-21-2009, 06:19 AM We dominated that game.
Yeah should be a tasty game.
Hopefully get McCormack back soon :D We need him back.
West Brom are going to win the league. Would probably bet on Newcastle only reaching the playoffs mind.
black.ink 09-21-2009, 10:00 AM If we can't beat the likes of Blackpool at home....we deserve a relegation battle this season. An absolute dire display.

Sαntα 11-03-2009, 02:45 AM Back to top. But we're playing terrible.
Sαntα 11-05-2009, 05:20 AM Newcastle want to interest big-hitting sponsors in buying the naming rights for their ground by quietly, if controversially, re-naming their ground sportsdirect.com@St James' Park Stadium until the end of the season.
They are seeking a blue-chip sponsor, ideally with far east connections. The idea is that a well-known brand, possibly in the electronics field, would purchase a broad rights package including sponsorship of not just the stadium but also a new big screen providing replays, information and advertising within it.
The club hope they could then exploit further marketing and merchandising opportunities. The money generated would be re-invested in the team although the fans, somewhat predictably, have reacted with incredulity.
Mark Jensen, the editor of The Mag fanzine said: "The idea of turning the history of St James' Park into something that resembles an email address absolutely beggars belief. The people at the club have shown they have absolutely no class."
Neil Mitchell, the interim chair of the Newcastle United Supporters Trust, said: "The current owners care nothing about the rich and proud history of the club." Similarly Steve Wraith, the editor of the Players Inc fanzine, said: "It's been known as St James' Park since 1892 so it's not something you can come in and tweak."
Meanwhile Derek Llambias, the managing director, has pledged to back the manager Chris Hughton's ambition to strengthen the side. "We will do whatever we can," he said. "At the moment we are looking at a list of players he's given us. We would prefer signings to be loans but if, in January, Chris wants a player we could buy for £1m or so, we would try and get him."
This development is so low key it has not been recorded on Newcastle's official website but Llambias, the club's managing directors, yesterday said: "We will showcase Sports Direct until the end of the season. But I'm sure we're going to get a sponsor in for next season."Mike Ashley, the Sports Direct and Newcastle owner, angered the Toon Army late last month when he first revealed plans to rename St James' Park for commercial purposes, having abandoned, for the moment at least, previously long-standing plans to sell the club.
Yet Llambias remains confident that selling naming rights is in Newcastle's best interests. "With the renaming it was always going to be whatever brand it was, at St James' Park," he insisted. "For the remainder of this season, we already have sportsdirect.com on the Gallowgate so we'd like to take that branding through the rest of the stadium."
Newcastle were, however, understood to be encountering logistical difficulties in terms of affixing visible, non view obstructing, signage to St James' three other, ultra modern, stands yesterday.
Although the majority of fans are more concerned that the team, currently topping the Championship, win immediate promotion back to the Premier League, and will simply ignore the Sports Direct prefix, there was predictable outrage from certain Newcastle supporters yesterday.
Mark Jensen, editor of 'The Mag' fanzine said: "The idea of turning the history of St James' Park into something that resembles an email address absolutely beggars belief," he said. "The people at the club have shown they have absolutely no class."

Similarly Steve Wraith, editor of the Players Inc fanzine said: "It's been known as St James' Park since 1892 so it's not something you can come in and tweak with."
Meanwhile Llambias has pledged to, albeit modestly, back Chris Hughton's ambitions to strengthen his side. "We have told Chris we will do whatever we can when he needs it," he said. "At the moment we are looking at a list of players' he's given us," he said.
"In our present financial circumstances we would prefer signings to be loans but if, in January, Chris wants a player we could buy for £1m or so we would try and get him."

http://www.les-transferts.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/fabrice-pancrate.jpg
Newcastle United's French trialist Fabrice Pancrate made a bright impression in Tuesday's 3-2 reserve win against Hartlepool United.
The 29-year-old winger made a goal for striker Phil Airey, 18, who notched a brace with Denmark international forward Peter Lovenkrands also scoring.
Pools took the lead through an own-goal from defender Matthew Grieve, prior to Lovenkrands' effort.
Pools then took the lead again through Billy Greulich before Airey's double.
Pancrate has been training with the Magpies following his release by French Ligue 1 club Paris Saint Germain during the summer and played 91 games while at PSG including Uefa Cup ties.
Among his previous clubs are Guingamp, Le Mans and Sochaux, as well as Spanish side Real Betis.
The Magpies have been seeking cover on the flanks following the departure of winger Damien Duff to Fulham earlier in the season.
Argentina's Jonas Gutierrez and Lovenkrands are the club's recognised wingers, although the Dane is also used as a main striker.

The 29-year-old has spent the past two weeks on Tyneside and has now put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season with an option to extend.
Pancrate will wear squad No.21 for The Magpies, but United must wait for his registration to be ratified before learning if he can figure at Preston North End on Monday night.

Kevin Nolan returns Newcastle to the top with winner against Preston
Preston North End 0 Newcastle United 1
Chris Brereton
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00649/p79tuesday_new_185x_649523a.jpg
Newcastle United continued to demonstrate that they have mastered the art of doing just enough after a second-half finish from Kevin Nolan helped them return to the top of the Coca-Cola Championship in an occasion that failed to live up to expectation at Deepdale.
Their showing at Preston North End last night may have been relatively listless but Nolan’s fine effort produced Newcastle’s eleventh league win of the season and seventh by the margin of a solitary goal.
But when Newcastle have a defence as miserly as theirs — they have conceded only ten times in 17 matches — scoring more than one seems a waste of energy and in this particular match a second felt as unlikely as the first had been. “There’s no doubt in some games we would have liked to score a bit earlier and make life more comfortable but this is what we have as a team,” Chris Hughton, the Newcastle manager, said.
“It is about getting the balance of finishing games quicker, but having the resilience to keep clean sheets. I think when the game is as tight as it was and was heading for a 0-0 with not many chances, Kevin has a great knack of being in the right place and making the right runs.”
A visit to Preston North End looked like an ideal venue to help Hughton’s side go top as Preston were on a run of only one win from their previous seven games in the league.
Yet a win for Preston would have taken them from twelfth to fifth, such is the ludicrously tight nature of this division and they started the hungrier.
Richard Chaplow and Michael Tonge, on loan from Stoke City, both had early drives from outside the box that briefly threatened as Alan Irvine’s men simply worked harder and passed better than their opponents.
Unfortunately, possession rarely equalled penetration from either side and, with this being both teams’ first fixture for 16 days, the quality that had been promised pre-match refused to appear. A Paul Parry header for Preston looked briefly to threaten before sailing over, and a speculative long-range attempt from Alan Smith, of Newcastle, also failed to hit the spot.
A sparky restart offered fresh hope but both sides soon settled into the breathless-but-directionless approach of the first half. For Newcastle, Andy Carroll being taken off after an hour, having fallen ill, summed up the miserable night that he had and Marlon Harewood, his strike partner, was equally anonymous.
Neil Mellor, the Preston forward, squandered the game’s best chance when he miscued a one-on-one opportunity moments before Smith got involved in a heated discussion with several Preston players, who accused him of elbowing Chris Brown in the head. However, with little more than 15 minutes remaining, Nolan ensured that Smith’s tantrum would not be the game’s sole talking point as he slotted a Danny Guthrie ball past Andy Lonergan for his ninth goal of the season.
“I didn’t think there was much in it,” Irvine, the Preston manager, said. “If we play like that for the rest of the season, we will win a lot more than we lose.”
Preston (4-4-2): A Lonergan — B Jones, Y Mawene (sub: L Chilvers, 46min), N Collins, C Davidson (sub: E Nolan, 74) — C Sedgwick (sub: J Parkin, 80), M Tonge, R Chaplow, P Parry — N Mellor, C Brown. Substitutes not used: V Shumulikoski, D Carter, W Henderson, S Elliott.
Newcastle United (4-4-2): S Harper — D Simpson (sub: T Kadar, 65), F Coloccini, S Taylor, J Diaz — D Guthrie (sub: P Lovenkrands, 90), K Nolan, A Smith, J Gutiérrez — M Harewood, A Carroll (sub: N Ranger, 62). Substitutes not used: B Donaldson, G Njitapfotso, F Pancrate, T Krul. Booked: Smith.

Dirty Sanchez 11-24-2009, 11:56 AM nolan should be gone in january.
He's already said he's not at all interested in leaving in January. And to be honest, the type of Prem clubs that would possibly come calling wouldn't exactly be the most appealing move for him anyway - far better off getting back to the Prem with us. He's pretty much the perfect player for this division, his attitude has been spot on all season (as has the majority of the squad to be honest).
Last night was a typical away performance from us this season - pretty sloppy but ultimately having too much quality.

i think he would cost too much for those who wanted him.
never say never as players have no loyalty these days.

We need Shola back. Harewood is wank.

I could see him going back to Bolton for £5m or something.
Sir Tom Jones 11-24-2009, 03:46 PM I could see him going back to Bolton for £5m or something.
yeah, depends if bolton got the cash to buy him. they are struggling slightly so they might splash the cash.
Dirty Sanchez 11-24-2009, 08:17 PM We need Shola back. Harewood is wank.
Harewood's first touch is further than I can kick it. Thought he'd be able to walk it in the Championship, so far he's done pretty much nothing to back that up though. Agreed, Shola will be big for us when we get him back next month - gives us something a little less predictable than what we've currently got up top.
On Nolan, he did sound fairly adamant about staying - but I take your point, you really can't trust anything footballers say. One thing in our favour would be that he seems to have been one of the ring leaders in sorting everything out after that Leyton Orient loss, leaving before getting us back to the Prem would surely feel be a pretty anti-climatic end for him? Money talks though I suppose, and I doubt it would take that much for Ashley to sell anyone in the squad.

I know. Went to the game. Ipswich were poor and we should have wrapped it up the half time whistle but we didn't. We have had a bit of bad luck with injuries. 2-3 players were not fit but had to play due to the small squad.
We only have 3 real centre midfielders and one of them got cancer and is out till january at least.

Looking at the fact Hull and Stoke stayed up last year it gives a couple of teams hope.
you have to spend a few millions however.
adietheforestfa 12-13-2009, 06:30 PM Which teams in the mix have the best chance of surviving in the Premiership?
Nottingham Forest.
Decent squad, good players to cover injuries. Top Keeper. Goal Scorers. Quality Chairman with pleanty of £££££.
Looking to sign Michael Dawson and Gareth Bale in January and 3/4 top signings will ge a Decent Prem Side( wouldnt surprise me if Jermain Jenas returns at some point ). Forest will also attract decent players due to our Famous History, good crowds, one of the best supported teams away from home in the country, imposible to get ticket for away games.
Who realy wants to Play for crappy clubs like Hull, Wigan, Bolton, Wolves, Stoke, Burnley, Blackburn, Fulham, Sunderland, Birmingham when they can play for a big Club back where they belong.
We have Birmingham City in the 3rd Round of FA Cup. This will present a good measure of where we are as a Team. Birmingham are doing pretty well at the moment and a good win for the Reds. Winning this game will give a huge confidence boost for our promotion push.

I'm more bothered about my team picking up the points, but it helps when the rivals drop them. We were outplayed by the Swans for a majority of the match, but give us 3 points for being the poor team, and we'll gladly accept.

I was impressed by our defence yesterday. Usually our back four hasn't been as last season. 2 clean sheets against WBA and M'Boro away is quite impressive.
M'Boro will struggle to make thet play offs it would seem. There are a couple of decent players there but overall they aren't a great team.
We rode our luck in parts but that is the way it goes.

Agree, the team are actually starting to gel well. Preston did play **** though, did not look like a threat once, and applied no pressure when we had possession.
Davies still doesn't want to acknowledge that we should be pushing for promotion, in stating that a mid-table finish would be good.
I sort of agree with Billy, that we are not ready for the Prem, but buying the right players in January can only help our cause. We'll see what sort of position we are in mid-Feb then evaluate where our season is heading.
Hoping Leicester, Boro and Blackpool pick up the points needed in their next games against Brom, Toon and Cardiff. Could only help us.
Sir Tom Jones 12-20-2009, 08:25 AM Forest are nailed on play off team it would seem.
The question is whether WBA will slip up.
There is nothing worse than finishing 3rd because they usually lose in the play offs to the less deserving lower teams.
