Sir Tom Jones 12-29-2009, 04:54 AM Every club in London is within 15 miles of my house. Since when do you have to support your local team? Chelsea and Fulham are the closet. 2.3 miles.
It is just common sense.
You actually have a connection as you live in the area.
I can understand children wanting to support the top teams just because they win a lot but adults should grow out of the childish behaviour.
anyway looks like it might be and interesting time down at the bottom of the table.

Games like that one is why I love football and is my favourite sport.

Jermaine Beckford hands in transfer request

• Widely linked with £2m move to Newcastle United

Newcastle United are among the clubs expected to make a bid for the Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford after he today handed in a transfer request.
The 26-year-old, who scored for the League One leaders in their 1-0 FA Cup third-round win against Manchester United on Sunday, has been linked with a move away from Elland Road for some time. His contract ends this summer and having scored 16 goals in 21 league starts this season, it was expected that clubs from higher divisions would come in for the player during the current transfer window.
Simon Grayson, the Leeds manager, expressed his desire to keep Beckford, who four years ago worked as an RAC windscreen fitter and played for non-league Wealdstone, following the victory at Old Trafford but is now almost powerless to keep the player. Should Leeds reject any move during the next month then Beckford will be able to leave for nothing at the end of the season.
A fee in the region of £2m could be enough to secure the services of the striker, with St James' Park his most likely destination. [READ MORE] (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/06/jermaine-beckford-leeds-transfer-request)

Beckford's good for this level but i doubt he'd cut it in the Premiership.

Chunk. 01-08-2010, 07:33 PM The consistency of referees in this country is ****! I saw a couple of nothing tackles from both sides get bookings in the first half and then saw Paul Mckenna deliver one of the worst tackles i've ever seen, and he only gets a yellow.

....not to mention the blatant penalty the ref seemed to miss when Thomas barged Anderson over from behind. There were some shocking calls, I think it was Thomas who also lunged in with a two footed challenge from behind on Tyson.*
All in all, we've played with that level of consistency throughout the season and deserve our position, 18 undefeated now.
We outplayed Birmingham in the FA Cup and was unlucky to come away with a draw, and a replay at theirs is going to be difficult, but beating them pits us against Everton in the next round, which are great tests to see just how far we've come and evaluate just how ready for the Prem we are.
It's too early to talk about promotion now, but we have got to look at least a playoff finish with the consistency we have been playing.

In all my years I have NEVER seen worse refereeing. It actually seemed like the ref and assistant had a battle on who could make the worse decisions. I'm sure this match will be over-turned for match fixing and West Brom relegated to league 2.

Forest & WBA battle to sign Moses
By John Sinnott
Nottingham Forest and West Brom are the only clubs to have made official bids for Crystal Palace star Victor Moses.
The 19-year-old forward has been linked with a host of top domestic and European clubs, with Real Madrid said to be among the interested parties.
With Palace in administration, Moses is one of the club's most valuable assets.
"Forest and West Brom are the two clubs to have made bids for Victor," agent Tony Finnegan told BBC Sport. "West Brom's bid was for £1.5m"
Ahead of Palace's game with Newcastle on Wednesday, Brendan Guilfoyle, joint administrator of the cash-strapped London club, told Eagles manager Neil Warnock not to play Moses to prevent his injury.
"I could not sleep last night worrying that Victor might be injured in the forthcoming match against Newcastle which could jeopardise the future of this long-established club," said Guilfoyle in a statement.
"I therefore took the tough decision to instruct the manager that Victor Moses was not available for selection. The manager was very disappointed."
On Saturday over 20 scouts watched Moses when he played for Palace in their FA Cup fourth round 2-2 draw with Wolves.
Having gone into administration, Palace have no say on how much or which club Moses will be sold to.
"His price will go down with the club in administration," added Finnegan, who pointed out that West Ham bought Nigel Reo-Coker for just £500,000 after Wimbledon were put in administration.
Guilfoyle, a partner in the P&A Partnership of Sheffield and Leeds, has appointed agents to help him with player sales.
"Independent football agents have reported that there is a great deal of interest from clubs wanting to buy Victor Moses," added the P&A Partnership statement.
"A sale of Victor Moses could assist the administrators in securing the future of the football club."
The 19-year-old, who moved to England at the age of 11 after the murder of his parents in Nigeria, has been linked with moves to Tottenham, Liverpool and Wigan as well as West Brom and Forest.
Barcelona and Manchester City are also reportedly watching the forward, who can play wide or through the middle.
There's always room for another Victor at Forest besides Chandler. We'd welcome you with open arms kid.

Newcastle tie up Hall and van Aanholt loan deals
The duo arrive at St James' Park to bolster a depleted defence following injuries to Steven Taylor, Jose Enrique and Danny Simpson.
Centre-half Hall, 29, will remain at St James' Park until the end of the season.
Dutch left-back van Aanholt, 19, has agreed a one-month deal.
The pair are the third signings to join Newcastle in the space of a week following the arrival of Mike Williamson from Portsmouth on Tuesday, and both players go into the squad for Saturday's trip to Leicester City.
Hall first came to prominence with Oldham Athletic, having been recommended to boss Iain Dowie by his brother Bob who had coached the defender at Chesham United.
His form with the Latics earned him a move to Southampton for £250,000 in July 2003, and he enjoyed a full season with the Saints before he was reunited with Dowie at Crystal Palace for a fee of £1.5m.
Palace proved to be Hall's most successful spell, as the defender won promotion to the Premier League with the Eagles and impressed despite their subsequent relegation.
Spells with Wigan and Queens Park Rangers then followed before the interest of Newcastle brought the London-born player to the Championship leaders on a temporary basis.
During a 10-year career in football, Hall has made more than 200 league appearances, scoring nine goals.
Meanwhile van Aanholt enjoyed a loan spell with Newcastle's Championship rivals Coventry City earlier this season, making 21 appearances, but is yet to make a senior appearance for his parent club following a move from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in 2006.
During his time in Chelsea's youth team, the full-back was a member of the 2008 FA Youth Cup final side that lost to Manchester City.

What's wrong with end of season loan deals? I'd much rather loan a player, see if he's any good then buy him.

I just feel loan deals aren’t the way forward yes sometimes they work out but more often than not they fail, a loan player is not always fully committed, but with fat twat running the club the manager has no option, we are by far the best team in the league and we are still very poor that says a lot for the standard of the league, I think no other manager could do better than Chris has one. Not sure how much Ashley wants the club or how much he wants promotion, he will do anything as long as its done on the cheap, if we get promoted he has put a wage cap in place so we are unlikely to attract any top quality players until he pisses off and sells up.

I heard from a good source that Steven taylor was on his way to Everton but hopfully his injury has put a stop to this, we all know every player at Newcastle was and still is up for sail, The club have tried for months to shift the to Argintinains from the books but no-one will pay them the wages so they are siting tight same as Geremi. making it hard for the manager.

Magpies for title - van Aanholt
On-loan Chelsea defender Patrick van Aanholt is convinced Newcastle United will finish the season as Championship title winners.
The 19-year-old is set to return to his parent club after a month on Tyneside, and is backing the Magpies to rejoin Chelsea in the Premier League.
He told BBC Newcastle: "Newcastle are a massive club, I've enjoyed my time.
"Newcastle are top of the league, they've got a brilliant team and I think they will win the league."
As well as trading divisions, the Den Bosch-born player has also moved from the bustling capital to a different pace of life in the North East.
And van Aanholt admitted he has enjoyed the interaction with supporters, who are quick to show their affections for players in the black and white of Newcastle.
"I think they like me, I've played six games, and when I go out in town people recognise me," he said.
"When my family was here, I went out for dinner with them and people came up to me, and I was like 'that's what happens here'.
"They love football over here, 24-7, and it's good."
Van Aanholt began his career with PSV Eindhoven in his native Holland before moving to Premier League side Chelsea in 2006.
Prior to joining Newcastle the defender also had a period on loan at Newcastle's Championship rivals Coventry City.

Carroll is a knob anyway.
From The Times
March 24, 2010
Andy Carroll delivers another telling blow
Doncaster Rovers 0 Newcastle United 1
It takes more than a punch to fracture a season. Newcastle United got back into the habit of breaking records last night, which represents a positive alternative to breaking jaws.
Inevitably, incredibly, Andy Carroll, the source of such consternation over the previous 24 hours, led his side away from a precipice that many had predicted they would tumble over.
In scoring his sixteenth goal of the season, Carroll — who, in celebration, pressed his fingers to his lips — provided a partial answer to those who have questioned his character.
In engulfing him, his team-mates gave their own response to doubts over Newcastle’s unity. And in recording their nineteenth clean sheet, they set a standard for a club who have seldom been associated with defensive solidity.
A narrow victory over Doncaster Rovers, who proved worthy opponents, stretched Newcastle’s unbeaten sequence to nine matches, the best in the division, and maintained their ten-point lead over third-placed Nottingham Forest. If nothing else, they demonstrated that their hard-earned tilt at promotion will not be squandered readily.
They still have issues to contend with. While it is understood that Steven Taylor will not press charges against Carroll after their altercation at the club’s training ground on Sunday, he is believed to be seeking an apology from his team-mate and some form of disciplinary action. The former England Under-21 captain was released yesterday from hospital.
Northumbria Police have not interviewed the pair, nor have they received any official complaint.
With a club investigation in progress, Carroll’s inclusion in Chris Hughton’s side was evidence that there is no mood within St James’ Park to tear up his contract.
“This is a team that has been focused all season,” Hughton, the Newcastle manager, said. “We’ve carried the pressure of being on top of this division and the pressures that go with it.”
Conflict between Carroll and Taylor is thought to have begun over wages — in spite of his improvement in recent months, Carroll is not among Newcastle’s high earners — and spread to a mutual female acquaintance.
It is an old story (and one that Fabio Capello will be familiar with), and the question for Hughton and his squad was whether their spirit could endure it.
Just as a single physical disagreement, no matter how serious and unsavoury, does not define Newcastle’s campaign, so the club must appreciate they cannot escape their history. What they still have in their power is an ability to shape their future, something they achieved at the Keepmoat Stadium, so much so that Joey Barton’s return from long-term injury was barely noticed.
Clad in thick black gloves (not of the boxing variety), to protect his damaged hand, Carroll appeared unperturbed by his latest misadventure. He applauded a healthy contingent of Newcastle supporters when he strode out to warm up (after the final whistle he tossed his shirt into the crowd) and, in an enterprising performance, he proved the difference for his side. He had chances too.
The first was miscued, the second was a testing header that was deflected for a corner and the third was a blistering shot across goal that prompted a fine reactive save from Neil Sullivan. If self-awareness and embarrassment are elements of Carroll’s make-up, the 21-year-old disguised both with a thick layer of bluster.
Doncaster were not idle bystanders. Neat and intelligent, they posed questions and twice Steve Harper repelled shots from Billy Sharp.
Carroll’s role as the drama’s leading man could not be denied, however. In the 59th minute, Wayne Routledge snapped up a misplaced pass in midfield and diverted it forward, inviting Carroll to chase. He did so adroitly, angling into the penalty area, holding off James O’Connor and beating Sullivan with an excellent finish.
“Andy took his goal very well,” Hughton said. “We’ve always said he has to add goals to his game and he’s done that. He’s a vital player for us.” The kid has some scriptwriter, too.

The lowest point of the season (Forest beating us 3-1 at home) also turned out to be the turning point for us, so thanks for that Forest!
boing boing
Agree. 6 Games left for you to lose at least 3? Not gonna happen.
Forest, Cardiff, Swansea and Leicester are my play-off tips.
A Forest/Leicester or Cardiff/Swansea final would be huge.
Biggest crowd at a Championship game ever. Glad to be a part of it.
I said to my dad just as Ameobi came on....'he'll score, just watch'. Enrique had a cracking game.
We'll dispose Bristol in the next game.
Enrique has got to be player of the season. His form has drastically improved since Keegan told him to lose weight.
SirTomJones 03-30-2010, 06:21 PM O yeah baby!!!
2-1.
Down to ten men too :)

I'm really not sure.
Play offs is a massive gamble.
Call me crazy but Blackpool are a team I fear.
We are hitting form at the right moment and our injured players are starting to return.
Swansea do not have enough firepower to win the playoffs in my opinion. Their game against Bristol away is huge. They could lose out to a place in the playoffs if they don't start finding the net.
Forest are a good solid team but the team who finish 3rd usually run out of steam before the play off final.
Gonna be tight one this year.
Forest

Newcastle are there.
West Brom are there.
Toss up then between Nottingham Forest, Cardiff City, Swansea City , Leicester City and Blackpool maybe.

West Brom aren't up yet!
Chunk. 04-08-2010, 10:25 AM You can say what you want about Swansea(not enough goals), but they're mighty hard to break down, from what i've seen of them anyway and they do keep the ball on the deck.
Defense wins championships.

West Brom are up after the next game.
I have seen swansea and they are very negative. Boring to watch. They keep the ball but they only keep it in the back four and the 3 centre midfielders. Get in the final 3rd and they fall apart.
black.ink 04-09-2010, 03:25 AM Forest squad just isn't big enough to compete at the highest level. Consistency is our downfall. We have only used 25 players on the field this season, 2 players less then the next lowest.
We have no decent fire-power up front. There isn't a man in our team that could guarantee you a goal in a 50/50 chance. We all saw Earnie and Cohen screw absolute sitters against Cardiff. Those sort of chances you cannot afford to miss.
My play-off tip is Cardiff.
Leicester are darkhorses, and i don't think Swansea have it in them to come out on top. Forest need a strong home result to get to the final, as our away form of late is worrying.

Congratulations man. Punt on some Portsmouth players......i don't think your current squad is strong enough to stay up, but i'd like to see who you add over the summer.
OptimusWolf 04-13-2010, 05:38 PM congrats to the baggies. 4 midlands teams in the PL next season (barring a disastrous end for the Wolves). great news although our record in derbies doesn't bode us well....

Ain't seen you on here for ages...
Looking forward to the Black Country derby next year. We'll be able to show the Premiership what a local derby is all about. I don't think we'll stay up, but I'll enjoy it nevertheless.

We need to sort out defence out and actually find a striker who will consistently score goals and you never know.
OptimusWolf 04-18-2010, 04:45 AM yeah I don't spend much time on here these days as life is busier, but still stop by once a week or so.
I think you have a decent chance with a better defence and some better tactics than the shambles you had last time round.
I bet there are more roger johnson's and scott dann's around the lower leagues to be found...
Wolves have kept about 8 clean sheets this season with Craddock and Berra, showing it can be done against all probablilty....
KESSLER 04-18-2010, 03:18 PM Good to see Newcastle back in the Premier League! Jonas is cool, and so is Løvenkrands!

Cardiff V Leicester
Play-off time boys.
Forest/Leicester final will do me nicely.
Calzaghe Loc 05-09-2010, 08:38 PM Okay so the 2 first leg games of the play offs have ended.
Blackpool 2 - 1 N. Forest
Leicester 0 - 1 Cardiff City
People have had Cardiff favourites but I refuse to believe that they will go up.
Took a huge step towards promotion with a win away from home.
I expect forest to win at home.
Could be a cardiff V forest final. I am not writing off Blackpool or Leicester just yet however,

Blackpool have beaten us three times this season now, even though we dominated the previous home game through the season, but lost 1-0. They just seem to be a bogey team for us.
I'm going to the game on tuesday night, and will no doubt be watching through gritted teeth the whole time. Do away goals count in play-off ties?
I expect Forest to win at home, but we need to control the game, and take the rhythm away from Blackpool, who we let into the first game way too much.
I expect Cardiff to reach the final. I wanted a Forest/Leicester final, for an all East Midlands showdown, but both teams are down going into the second leg, it doesn't seem do-able.
Crunch time baby!

Like I said anything can happen. I am not saying cardiff are through but they are in the best position out of all the teams going into the 2nd leg.
I can't wait till Wednesday. If Cardiff do win (fingers crossed) that will be our 3rd trip to the new wembley. Would never have dreamed of it 5 years ago let alone 15 years ago.

Going to be watching it next season

Never gonna happen in a play-off game son.
Blackpool deserved it. We couldn't control the game at all, hell we couldn't even keep the ball amongst our teammates for more then 10 seconds. When Earnie scrambled the second goal in, i really thought this was gonna be our year.
Then our defense decided to sleep, and DJ Campbell went all Freddy Krueger on our asses, and ****ed them all in their sleep.
I don't know how many fans Blackpool are gonna take to Wembley, but i see the winner of Cardiff/Leicester taking over that place.
I think it's Cardiff's year, like i said from the start of the play-offs.
Davros? 05-12-2010, 07:28 AM I got a soft spot for Blackpool i would like to see them go up.

Congratulations man. Great game for us neutrals. Feel bad for Leicester, as they gave as good as they got. I think you boys hold the advantage on big game temperament, and should see off Blackpool.
You never know though, the team with the best form going into the play-offs tend to win promotion to the Premiership, that team this year is Blackpool.

Yeah Blackpool are flying at the moment. Beating forest away is something too despite it not being normal circumstances.
I think it is 50/50 in the final. Could go either way.
The 2 2nd leg play off games was pure entertainment. Anyone of the 4 teams could have gotten to the final and there would be no complaints.
The new Wembley for the 3rd time for me. 16 years ago when I first started supporting them I would never have thought we would get this close to the Premiership.

Good stuff. I've only been once, to see the Brazil/Argentina game last year. Forest just cannot produce in play-offs. Third time in under a decade we've lost in the 2 leg stages, we just never seem to be able to reach a final.
Went to see Forest at the old Wembley 3 times in the early 90s, but something tells me it's going to be a long wait to see them play at the new one.

Keep the same squad and strengthen it in a few places you should be pushing for automatic promotion. Forest have money there to spend haven't they?

All the gypo cunts probably voted they will blow it.
I'm not too sure who will win. Can't wait. Wembley Wembley!
Going on a very lively bus and going to a pub in London first and catching the train to Wembley. Could be some trouble.:boxing:
SirTomJones 08-07-2010, 05:31 PM So here we go again - Special mention to Millwall - Beating the wurzel cunts :D - Not even 'England's Number 1' could prevent them from winning.

Rumour has it for a while that Bellamy is interested in joining us on loan. If we get him and he stays fit then we will go up as champions.
Going to miss this thread. It's SO much better than the one in the lounge.
if im honest newcastle will struggle to make the play offs. On paper they should be top 2 easily but your players show **** all passion or commitment much like my teams players last year. Youll also be every teams FA cup final if you see what i mean.
Also PWNT.
