View Full Version : Byrd... about to knock out Vitali?
!! Anorak 11-19-2004, 04:32 PM Okay, it's an old theory, but I brought it up because Chris had an interview in Boxing News two weeks ago where he claimed Vitali pulled out of their bout because he was about to engineer a KO and Klitscho knew it. Thoughts?

MAYBE BUT I DON'T THINK SO.

This claim is worthless, we need to see a rematch.

IT'S THE ONLY FIGHT IN THE HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION PEOPLE WANT TO SEE.UNLESS WILLIAMS BEATS VITALI.

I'd rather see Toney fight Vitali. Or maybe a Toney-Byrd winner fight take on Vitali.

YOU DON'T THINK TONEY HAS TO PROVE HIMSELF.
BrooklynBomber 11-19-2004, 05:14 PM Byrd about to KO anybody? Now that's funny.
Champoreeno 11-19-2004, 05:15 PM YOU DON'T THINK TONEY HAS TO PROVE HIMSELF.
Perhaps in a deeper era of HW fighters, but right now, no, I think Toney is as deserving as anyone.
The Fix 11-19-2004, 05:25 PM vitali left with a torn rotator cuff i believe. it would be hard to fight with such an injury and it would leave a fighter having to defend himself with one arm. even byrd can tko a one armed fighter. so byrd stopping vitali isnt so far fetched.

He knows King won't throw him to the dogs. He talks pretty big, huh?
Byrd knocking Vit???
You need dynamite and not a feather to take out a cliff.
tracylee 11-19-2004, 06:39 PM It's gotten to the point in the last month or two where I'd love to see it. What a shame, but that's the truth :(
simeraksou 11-19-2004, 06:44 PM byrd is always in at least a half defensive mode so he doesn't get much power from his punches.
Eyeh8you 11-19-2004, 09:31 PM vitali left with a torn rotator cuff i believe. it would be hard to fight with such an injury and it would leave a fighter having to defend himself with one arm. even byrd can tko a one armed fighter. so byrd stopping vitali isnt so far fetched.
Just watch the fight. Byrd was in no way abot to KO Vitali!
Vitali just didnt think he could continue. I think he should have ran for the rest of fight and won on the huge lead he had, but thats ancient history now.
m00ks 11-19-2004, 09:33 PM Chris Byrd couldn't knock down a lamp.
I don't know about Byrd pulling off a KO, but if Ruiz took Byrd's place he would've hugged Vitali to a late stoppage; that's if Vitali continued fighting with that bum shoulder
Doubt Byrd can do it, and hope Toney will do it.

I wouldent put my money one either, yes a like Vit but he need real competiton, needs a fight thats hard, close and interresting.
The only time ive seen it was against LL.
I dont think Byrd can take Vitali
hudster 11-20-2004, 06:41 AM i think all hardcore lovers of boxing should stop even acknowledging the heavy weight division,i fortunately wasnt old enough to suffer through the eighties heavys but at least there were some skilled slick guys -witherspoon tubbs and even tucker ,todays heavies success seem to come down alot of the time to their massive size and the parsity of decent opponents
PacKillsMorales 11-20-2004, 08:04 AM but as as frequently pointed out its competitive and that
to me is worth far more than one guy thumping everyone
and never having much of a test
!! Anorak 11-20-2004, 08:13 AM What's Byrd's KO rate?
The Fix 11-20-2004, 12:02 PM Just watch the fight. Byrd was in no way abot to KO Vitali!

i dont think byrd stopping vitali is far fetched and i have watched the fight. it is doubtful that byrd could stop vitali but not impossible, especially considering the injury vitali suffered.
Champoreeno 11-20-2004, 12:03 PM What's Byrd's KO rate?
38-2-1 with 20 KOd
!! Anorak 11-20-2004, 01:00 PM So that's over 1 in 2 winning fights ending by way of knockout... that's not too bad for a "non puncher", is it?
freirui 11-20-2004, 02:01 PM Byrd is full of ****.
paulmmv 11-27-2004, 03:49 AM i think your right
jujitsujn 11-27-2004, 04:32 AM Byrd's smokin crack.
ejk22 11-27-2004, 11:01 AM Byrd would never KO Vitali!!! Neither would loud mouth Toney. Toney couldn't KO Jirov so please tell me how he would KO Vitali? The only chance Toney would have at beating Vitali would be to fight defensively all fight and strictly attempt to counterpunch his way to a decision simply for keeping busy in the fight.
ejk22 11-27-2004, 11:03 AM I always wondered why Byrd refuse's to give Wladimir Klitschko a rematch? You would think that being the IBF champion and thinking you can beat everyone he would try and erase one of his two defeats and prove to the world that he is the very best.
moochi 11-27-2004, 02:17 PM lets all accept and acknowledge that byrd is the best boxer in the division....yed i mean boxer......it seems that everyone seems to forget that in every other division, a pound or two either way cancels fights, as fighter dont accept................and here we are now where a tiny byrd has to box against guys 40 - 60 pounds above him...and he still outboxes them....
byrd deserves a hell of a lot more credit than what is given....
paulmmv 11-27-2004, 02:21 PM i dont think so vitali's doctors proved he was really hurt

Maybe because Byrd realizes that he can't beat Wlad.
ejk22 11-27-2004, 02:49 PM Maybe because Byrd realizes that he can't beat Wlad.
I understand what you are saying, but for his legacy he should try and erase that defeat and prove whether or not he is the best of the current crop of heavyweights.
