John Ruiz promises to put James Toney’s lights out

World Boxing Association heavyweight champion John “The Quietman” Ruiz promises to silence mandatory contender James “Lights Out” Toney in their impending title fight. Ruiz-Toney goes to purse bid February 28 in Miami and it has been mandated to be held within 90 days. “I’m the real undisputed heavyweight champion of the world” Ruiz said. “None of the other champions will fight me. I’m the king of the heavyweight division; King Kong on top of the Empire State Building and all of the others are down on the street looking up at me. Toney’s nothing more than a tune-up fight for me before I start unifying the titles. He’s nothing more than an overweight middleweight. What’s he ever done to be the WBA mandatory contender? Nothing as a heavyweight! I’m going to switch his nickname around and put Toney’s lights out.”

Ruiz (41-5-1, 28 KOs), the first and only world heavyweight champion of Latino heritage, has beaten three former world champions – Evander Holyfield, Hasim Rahman and Tony Tucker – as well as top 10 contenders Andrew Golota, Fres Oquendo and Kirk Johnson.
Toney’s only two fights as a heavyweight were against 41-year-old Evander Holyfield (TKO9) and Rydell Booker, who went the distance in only his third fight as a heavyweight.

“I can’t wait to fulfill my mandatory obligation to the WBA against James Toney,” Ruiz added.

“He’s just another obstacle on my way to cleaning up the heavyweight division. I’m going to do the boxing world a favor by shutting his big mouth. His body’s been breaking down. Let’s see how strong he is in a street fight against the best heavyweight in the world.

“After Toney I want the other world champions – (Vitali) Klitschko, (Chris) Byrd, (Lamon) Brewster. I’m the only heavyweight champ calling for a tournament. If they don’t want to fight in a tournament, I’ll fight them one at a time because I am the man in the heavyweight division.”

what are you guys talking about Ruiz is gonna go out there and do what he alway does fight a great exciting fight (*giggle*) gatti style and showing off his Ali style boxing...he gonna kick toney's ass so bad he might even "stone cold stun" him or put him in a "sharpshotter" in the middle of the ring...might even climb to the top rope and jump on toney...Cuz ruiz man u know what they say about him only in America
:usa: hahaha..but i have a (bad) feeling he's gonna win somehow

Well, this is one fight I'm going to enjoy. I detest both fighters (Ruiz for his hug'n'hold style, Toney for his never-ending mouthiness), and as long as someone hits the canvas, I'll be a happy (and drunk) camper :nutkick:

Respect him, yes. Like him, noooo way!
This will be a boring fight, because Toney like to fight on the inside too, and therefore will allow Ruiz to hug all night. But at least Toney will be busier and win an ugly decision.

Ruiz's days as WBA Heavyweight Champion are over when he steps in the ring against Jame "Lights Out" Toney. Ruiz will truley be the quietman after the fight. :D

C'mon man, admit that it's more entertaining to watch a Toney press conference than a Quietman conference?

Yeah, he gets the "W" on bull**** judge calls and we all know it. Ruiz is not a tough guy, he's a little hugging piece of ****, he doesn't belong in the ring, he's a disgrace, Toney wil destroy him

Hey, don't knock someone else's pastimes ;)

If it weren't for getting to sit around with the guys once a week or so, getting lit and watching the fights, I'd be a dull boy indeed. Especially this time of year...fishing sucks right now.

This is one of those rare times that I don't really, really care who wins or loss (it could even be a TD, who knows?).
